‘Michael Forever’ concert rescinds invitation for Kiss to perform following complaints from estate and fans. By Gil Kaufman Michael Jackson in the video for “Hold My Hand” Photo: Sony Music Entertainment Several weeks after announcing their intention to celebrate the life of Michael Jackson with an all-star concert called “Michael Jackson Forever,” the initial lineup for the October 8 show at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, was revealed last week. According to promoters, the Michael Forever show is slated to feature such stars as Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and Motown legend Smokey Robinson, in addition to less globally popular talents, including Alexandra Burke, Pixie Lott, Leona Lewis, JLS, Craig David, Alien Ant Farm and a pair of Jackson-related groups, 3T and the Jackson Brothers. The one thing the event does not have, however, is the approval of Jackson’s powerful estate, which had kept silent about the show put together by parents Joseph and Katherine Jackson, along with siblings Jackie, Tito, Marlon, LaToya and Rebbie. Brothers Jermaine and Randy have not been involved in the plans and have publicly objected to the event because it falls in the middle of the involuntary manslaughter trial of Jackson’s doctor, Conrad Murray. On Tuesday (August 16) a spokesperson for the estate — which has handled all of Jackson’s affairs since his 2009 death — confirmed that estate lawyer Howard Weitzman sent a letter to concert organizers last week raising some pointed questions about the show. “I represent the Executors of the Estate of Michael Jackson. As the legal caretakers of Michael’s intellectual property, we believe it is our duty to contact you directly regarding the growing number of questions that have been addressed to the Estate, as well as multiple concerns that have emerged in recent days,” reads the letter. After reminding organizers that the estate is the only entity that can sign off on the use of Jackson’s image or his intellectual property — the concert’s website is careful not to feature any images of the singer or samples of his music — the letter said the estate was “especially disappointed” by the announcement on Monday that greasepaint rockers Kiss have been added to the bill. Specifically, the beef was that outspoken Kiss bassist Gene Simmons has made a number of disparaging comments about Jackson in the past. “It was extraordinarily embarrassing when no sooner had you announced this ‘news’ that [Simmons] would participate in your concert that TMZ posted an item noting that Mr. Simmons called Michael Jackson … a child molester, notwithstanding the fact that Michael was acquitted by a jury,” read the letter. Jackson fansite MJ4Justice was flooded with negative comments about the addition of Kiss, announced on Monday by Katherine Jackson on CNN, and has called for a boycott of the show. The concert’s Facebook page has also been inundated with concerns over the booking of Kiss. And the complaints worked. On Tuesday, the concert’s promoter, Global Live Events, canceled Kiss’ “invitation” to appear in the show. “We have listened to Michael’s fans and are grateful to have been alerted to these unfortunate statements by Gene Simmons,” CEO Chris Hunt said in a statement. “Under the circumstances we fully agree that even though Kiss is a band Michael admired we have no choice but to rescind our invitation to them to appear in our tribute concert. We offer our sincerest apologies to Mrs. Jackson and the family for this oversight — our primary concern must be to do justice to Michael’s memory, and to put on a tribute that the family and the fans will find suitable and fit for a King, our
My name is Katherine Zapata and I met Justin Bieber on July 14th 2010 at the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon. I won meet and greets through bieberfever.com . Meeting Justin was the BEST thing that could ever happen to me. He’s so sweet, hot, and down to earth. I had VIP for that show so before I met him, I went to his soundcheck and then the pre party! The soundcheck was amazing! When he came out everyone screamed and was freaking out, he said hi to everyone, told us it was Q&A time and asked who wants to ask the first question. I was like, “What’s your favorite candy?” and a girl behind me was screamed “Sour Patch Kids right?”. He was like “Hahaha no, I got tired of those, hmm my favorite candy is Air Heads” . My friend was like, “Juuustinnnn, will you wear this?” and he put his hand up so she threw a rubber bracelet that said “PEACE” at him and it landed on his feet so he picked it up and put it on. He said “Thank you” and smiled! Then some person asked him who he liked better, Beyonce or Chuck Norris and he said Beyonce. My friend said, “CAN YOU DO THE SINGLE LADIES DANCE!!” and so he put his hands up in the air and did a little dance and said “There you go!” Then right as he walks in front of us, I said, “You should do your SEXY HAIR MOVE” and he said, “SEXY HAIR MOVE?! I don’t have a SEXY HAIR MOVE”. He laughed and said, “DAN HAS A SEXY HAIR MOVE” So Dan Kanter did a hair flip then Justin said “Alright” and did a SEXY HAIR FLIP and said, “There, just for you!” I absolutely FREKED OUT. Then towards the end of the soundcheck, he asked everyone if they knew the Dan Kanter Song and people were like “What’s that?” Literally no one said they knew it and I happened to know it because days before I saw a video on Youtube. I said, “MEEEE!!!!” and he was was like,”You do?” and I said “YESSS!” and he said “Alright, I’m gonna need you to help me out okay?” Justin grabbed his mic and came to sit right infront of me! He said “Ready?” and I was still in shock! He pointed his mic to me and the music started playing so I started singing. Click here to watch me singing the Dan Kanter song with Justin! Later came the meet and greet and I was second in line! There was a black curtain, and behind that curtain JUSTIN was there! As soon as the bodyguard (not Kenny Hamilton, a Rose Garden Arena bodyguard) opened the curtain and said your turn! I looked at my friends with an extremely happy look on my face and said AHHH WE’RE GOING TO MEET JUSTIN BIEBER!” I was the first one to walk in and Justin was watching us come towards him. He gave me a hug and said, “Thanks for singing with me at soundcheck!” I couldn’t believe he had just said that & he remembered what I looked like. I said, “Thank YOU” I told him that he was really hot and that I love him so much. He smiled and said, “Thanks! I love you too!” Then Kenny Hamilton was like, “picture time” and so I stood right next to Bieber and he said, “Your bag is in the way” and WINKED! I looked at my bag and noticed he wanted to put his hand around my waist not my shoulder! I looked at him and he had a big smile on his face and then he LEANED HIS FACE INTO MINE! When my friends and I were about to walk out, Justin came up to me and asked, “What row are you in?” and I said “3rd row”. He said “Okay, I’m going to look for you” and I said “Okay sounds good!” My friends and I were walking out and Justin was like “Nice meeting you!” and I turned around and said “Nice meeting you too! and we smiled at each other. At the pre party I met Sean Kingston, Jessica Jarrell, Dan Kanter, etc. After the party, my friends and I went to our seats because the show was about to start! 7/14/10 was the BEST DAY OF MY LIFE! Also my picture with Justin Bieber was in Popstar magazine! Read the original post: My name is Katherine Zapata and I met Justin Bieber on July 14th…
My first Bieber experience was in 2010 when Justin RT’d one of my tweets . I had just bought his album, only out of curiosity to see what he sounded like, and I instantly fell in love with him. It wasn’t until i google’d a bit about him that I realized he was that kid singing “With You” in his bedroom. Anyway, I had been tweeting him ALL day and got no response. Then all of my timeline started to blow up with tweets to Justin. Being the un-experienced fan I had no idea that they only did this when he was online or “creepin”. I had already given up and just joined in on tweeting my favourite songs from his album. I t wasn’t until later when my emails blew up that I realised that he had RT’s me! I was SO happy, I was jumping around and stuff. I had only just became a fan and this is what he did to me! My second Bieber experience was the biggest one. It happened 4 th March 2011. People had constantly told me to give up on my dream and that I was never going to meet Justin. One of them especially was a girl who was “supposedly” my best friend . She was a HUGE Bieber fan too. She’s always been the girl who got everything she wanted. She got her bedroom covered in posters, she had every single thing to do with Justin bieber, but me? I couldn’t afford that and every day she would remind me. Everyday I’d call up my local radio station and request Baby and got to be good friends with the radio presenter, she said that if Justin was ever in the studio she would get me in to meet him . I was having a bad year, my parents spilt and I became a part-time guardian to my 2 year old brother. My auntie suggested that me and my cousin should get tickets as our Christmas presents. We ended up with floor seats, 3 rows from the front. The girl who always told me I’d never see him live/meet him had bought the £300 V.I.P package and bragged about it like everyday of her life! She had seats 2 rows behind me. When I told her what seats I had, she told me that I got the tickets because people felt sorry for me. But karma is a bitch! It turned out that there would only be a V.I.P sound check for the London concerts so everything she bragged about didn’t happen and people thought she was lying. Me being the nice person I am decided to stick up for her and tell them the story so she wouldn’t look stupid. The day the tickets arrived I had a leaflet with them about joining bieberfever.com I joined using my birthday money (it cost £30 because of international fees) and became a member. I saw that you could win a chance to meet Justin. I made a video and entered. They told me i would know if i won 24hours before the concert. I had no reply and gave up hope. 11:56pm on the night before the concert I received an email, “ CONGRATULATIONS JUSTIN BIEBER FAN ”. The next day when I met him, I felt on top of the world. I had just met my idol and all I could say was that “he’s real”. I ran up to him and hugged him. He hugged back and was like, “Awhh” When we took the picture, we realized it was just him me and my cousin. We were supposed to be in groups of 4 so we didn’t understand. It turned out my auntie had a Justin Bieber hoody on because she was cold and they though she was a fan. When we took the picture and stuff he said thank-you and I handed him a letter to give to his mom. I said, “Please will you give this to your mum” and he looked really surprised and said, “What? My mom, my momma?” We both smiled pointing to Kenny. I replied. “Okay but it’s really important” he looked confused, “Don’t worry its nothing bad” he smiled and said “Ok bye girls” then we left. After meeting him I had a phone call and it was from the radio station asking me to go down and do an interview about it. I was also on local radio news. Everything that went on that year, God finally gave me hope. I later found out that the things that girl was saying to me are a type of bullying. We are no longer friends and she is stuck with one person at school. I’m glad I could finally see who she really was. It was thanks to Justin Bieber and his team that she can no longer put me down. T hanks for reading. Love Jodie -@ItsJodieCrouch Click here to listen to my interview with the radio station. Read the original post: My first Bieber experience was in 2010 when Justin RT’d one of…
Steve Angello tells MTV News that the famed Swedish trio just want to take a creative approach to dropping new material. By Akshay Bhansali Steve Angello Photo: Getty Images After impressive remixes of Swedish House Mafia ‘s last single, “Save the World,” by dance music acts like AN21 and Max Vangeli, Alesso, and Zedd, whose fiery mix MTV News premiered exclusively last month, the house music production trio of Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell and Steve Angello have so far teased only two new originals this summer. And really, only one of these new gems has been well-documented, starting with Axwell spinning the dark track at Club Papaya in Croatia in July. Sure, the in-demand collective has been busy touring, but save for Sebastian Ingrosso and Alesso debuting their new single “Calling” on Friday (August 12) on the BBC’s “Essential Mix” with Pete Tong, it would seem the three Swedes have devoted their summer to performing rather than hitting the studio. When MTV News caught up with Steve Angello recently, though, he told us nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, Angello revealed, SHM have more than 15 songs ready to go, but the group is toying with how to release their new material. “This is the thing … we have a lot of records,” Angello confessed. “We have singles; we have all the material to make an album. But it’s like, do we want to stick with the traditional album ways or do we want to do something different? And I think, as Swedish House Mafia works, I think we do something different.” As for the aforementioned “dark” single Axwell played earlier at a live show, Angello couldn’t confirm whether it would be the trio’s next release. “It’s one of them. … It’s another record,” Angello said. “It’s pretty f—ed up, but it’s good energy!” In addition to working on their own material, fans of the three Swedes will be tickled to hear that they’ve also been producing records for two major pop stars. But, of course, they aren’t ready to reveal just who yet. “A lot of people came through this year,” Angello said. “After the success of, ‘One,’ and ‘Miami 2 Ibiza,’ we got hundreds of requests to work with people. We chose very few to work with. We’ve done some work with a very, very big artist. We’re producing [some of] another artist’s album. It’s been an amazing trip for us. I can’t tell anybody’s name yet.” While we couldn’t get names, MTV News did get another major piece of SHM scoop: Angello is also well into work on a solo album being put out through Interscope via his Size Records label. “I do have an album,” Angello revealed. “The last bit is the hard part because you have to decide what you want to do and choose what direction you want to take. I’ve finished 70 percent. I got a couple singles. I just haven’t picked ‘the one.’ ” Related Artists Swedish House Mafia Steve Angello
’30 Minutes or Less,’ ‘Glee: The 3D Concert Movie,’ ‘Final Destination 5’ disappoint at box office. By Ryan J. Downey Freida Pinto and James Franco in “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” Photo: Twentieth Century Fox Film Not only did the apes begin to conquer the human world onscreen, but they managed to retain their top spot at the box office as well. Despite competition from four diverse new movies, “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” remained the #1 movie in America over the weekend. The sci-fi prequel
She captivated millions during her sister Kate’s wedding back in late April, but did Pippa Middleton stop by PAD-dington Station (if you know what we mean!) on the way to the royal nuptials? Did she get a LIFT to the grand affair? We’re asking if her now-famous backside was enhanced in some way. Why bring this up? “Experts” consulted for TLC’s Crazy About Pippa special noted that Pippa Middleton was looking, um, well-rounded on the big day. Pippa Middleton at the wedding, left, and earlier this month . “She had this very pert bum sticking out,” noted one British style commentator on the special. ” I’m not convinced that it’s completely natural.” London spa owner Lesley Reynolds Kahn adds: “I think, if you look at other photos of her and see her in jeans, she’s got quite a flat bottom.” “I think possibly for the day, for that gorgeous dress, she may have had pants that gave her a little bit of a lift, or even a little bit of padding.” Of course, expensive dresses are designed to enhance a woman’s shape. Haute couture will usually give a gal a boost, literally or otherwise. What do you think? Did the Queen of the Booty (Lord of the Arse-tocracy, Her Royal Hotness, etc.) receive some artificial help on April 29?
Michael Jackson’s kids are planning on attending the upcoming MJ Tribute Concert in person. This in spite of objections from two of their uncles. Prince, Paris and Blanket have all decided that they want to fly to Wales for the event, regardless of what Jermaine and Randy Jackson think. An Jackson family rep tells TMZ: “Paris, Blanket and Prince have been asked to attend the MJ Tribute in Wales and they have decided to go.” The rep adds that the kids are “extremely excited and they’re hoping they will have the opportunity to contribute in some way by making a speech.” “Nothing has been set in stone, but they really hope they can.” Jermaine and Randy are fighting their attendance, as well as the concert itself, which they consider “inappropriate,” given that the event is due to take place in October during the involuntary manslaughter trial of Dr. Conrad Murray . We can see that side of it, but at the same time, Michael’s kids – who are said to be so happy these days – should be allowed to honor his memory. [Photo: Fame Pictures]
Is it as good as the show? Completely gratuitous? Worth the 3-D effects? Read what the critics have to say. By Kara Warner Chord Overstreet, Kevin McHale, Cory Monteith and Lea Michele in “Glee: The 3D Concert Movie” Photo: Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation For the “Glee”-obsessed out there counting down the days until the start of the hit TV show’s third season, your wait has been temporarily abated with the arrival of “Glee: The 3D Concert Movie.” Here at MTV News, we’ve been celebrating the arrival of the 88-minute music-filled extravaganza with several fun moments with castmembers, including a “Glee”-style musical recap of the film and a hilarious list of superlatives . But now, with the movie finally out, it’s time to analyze the nuts and bolts of the film by way of critical mass — it’s currently posting a 61 percent “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Read on for the “Glee: The 3D Concert Movie” reviews, pro/con style. The Setup “A blend of concert footage, interstitial fan segments and faux behind-the-scenes snippets (the actors remain in character), pic avoids going the ‘Justin Bieber: Never Say Never’ route of documenting the cast members’ rise to stardom. Nor does it offer much in the way of surprises. Instead, the goal is largely to provide the ‘Glee’ Live! concert event for those who missed the recent tour, an immersive experience enhanced by fan testimonials about the series’ positive impact on their lives. As tempting as it is to label this approach over-calculated and self-congratulatory, it’s virtually impossible not to be swept up in the surge of ebullience and affection. As one fan attests, ‘ “Glee” is like medicine.’ Adds another, ‘It’s like the playlist of my life.’ — Lael Loewenstein, Variety “Even Gleeks who love to watch seasoned showbiz belters pretend to be high school kids on the hit TV series ‘Glee’ may wince at the cheesy marketing angle of ‘Glee the 3D Concert Movie.’ And I report this as a former geeky high school alto who is, if not a Gleek, at least ‘Glee’ friendly. … The positive power of a TV show to encourage tolerance and compassion among its viewers is a wonderful thing. But these ‘success stories’ tilt uncomfortably toward self-congratulation on the part of the producers; certainly they register as overkill for the intended audience, who presumably already know how awesome it is.” — Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly The Performances “The concert stuff is a slightly knottier matter. The actors from the series perform in character, enacting the roles they play on the show onstage as they sing; Lea Michele’s goofily diva-esque Rachel belts out Streisand’s big ‘Funny Girl’ number ‘Don’t Rain on My Parade’ as if Babs herself were out in the audience checking it out. … A Kurt/Rachel duet of ‘Get Happy’ and ‘Happy Days Are Here Again’ is an apt nod to Judy Garland and the originalist strain of glee-club singing and is kind of nifty. On the other hand, Finn’s ballad rendition of ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’ is an equally apt reminder of the fact that just because something can be done doesn’t mean that it should, and the version of Queen’s cheekily crass ‘Fat Bottomed Girls’ by Mark Salling’s studly Puck is both entirely beside the point and from hunger, as it were. — Glen Kinney, MSN Movies “Another of the movie’s strengths is the showcasing of cast members with dance training, like McHale, Heather Morris and Harry Shum Jr. The gifted Shum gets favored by the camera frequently during choreographer Zach Woodlee’s dance routines, while Morris — whose deadpan timing as ditzy cheerleader Brittany is a show standout — shines in her pumped-up version of Britney Spears’ ‘I’m a Slave 4 U.’ ” — Robert Abele, The Los Angeles Times The Final Word “For a film that was put together so rapidly, it doesn’t look at all shoddy (except for a couple of frames near the end shot from the giant screen instead of the stage). The 3D effect, however, is largely superfluous until the final credits, when the show’s trademark blue slushie heads straight for the viewer. On that note, you might leave ‘Glee 3D’ feeling a little gooey all over, but that slushie does taste kind of sweet.” — Loewenstein, Variety “The movie is entertaining and, admittedly, completely unnecessary. Yes, it works well enough in theaters. But it also would have worked just as well as a heavily promoted special television event broadcast over Thanksgiving weekend. … In the end, ‘Glee: The 3D Concert Movie’ is actually a perfect representation of ‘Glee’ the TV show: At its best, it’s joyful, uplifting and even, occasionally, moving. And at its worst, it’s a propaganda piece designed to win our undying loyalty to a TV show/cash cow that advocates for the little guy even though it’s clearly turned into a diva.” — Jen Chaney, The Washington Post Check out everything we’ve got on “Glee: The 3D Concert Movie.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . My Bieber experience happened on June 11th, 2011. I was invited to go to his benefit concert at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, CA by my friend. We had dead center, 4th row seats, meaning we were extremely close! Before the concert started we noticed that MC Hammer was sitting 2 rows behind us. Then we saw Kenny Hamilton walking through the crowd to go say hi to him. I basically died when I saw Kenny and I started climbing over the seats to get to him. Right as Kenny was turning to walk back to the backstage area, I put my camera infront of us and got a picture of me and him. As I was freaking out, Kenny said “That’s a bad picture take another one”. He then had to go, but I was almost in tears I was so happy! The concert started and it was amazing! Halfway through, my friend and I noticed we could climb over seats and get around people and make our way up to the front row. At this venue the front row could touch the stage. During Down To Earth, it was a quiet moment in the song and I yelled something like “MARRY ME!” and I guess Justin heard it cause he looked right at me and smiled at me then did the head nod at me! I basically freaked out! Then during Runaway Love, Justin came up right in front of me and put his hand out! He was holding my hand for about 2 whole seconds! THE BEST 2 SECONDS OF MY LIFE! I was crying of happiness after that. At the end of the concert, Justin had already left and Dan Kanter was finishing the concert off with a guitar solo. When he was finished I started yelling “PICK! PICK!” because I wanted his guitar pick, but instead of giving me his pick, he hands me a folded piece of paper. At first I was really confused what it was, but then the security guard in front of me was like, “Damnn girl! That’s the set list! There’s only one of those per every show. That thing is worth a ton!”. I learned that the set list is a piece of paper that says the songs he is going to sing and in what order, and when he is supposed to get water and throw his hat and stuff. I didn’t care how much it was worth, all I was thinking was that I was going to frame it and keep it forever! My Bieber experience is a moment I will never forget! I have the fever! -Jamie @jdtlovesjdb Read the original here: My Bieber experience happened on June 11th, 2011. I was invited…
