Right Wing Eats Itself Over Sean Hannity’s Charity [Charity]

A right-wing blogger went through tax returns for Hannity’s Freedom Concerts , performances to raise money for veterans and their children. She alleged that most of the money goes on lavish expenses . The charity, and other bloggers, fought back. Conservative fight! The blogger, Debbie Schlussel , has some history with Hannity. In 2007 she accused him of ripping off her reporting (or something) in this screed . Schlussel says she was acting on a second-hand tip from a friend who had spoken to a friend at Fox News and alleged that, for the performances, Hannity got the use of “a Gulfstream 5 plane to fly him and his family/entourage to the concerts; a “fleet” (that’s the word the guy used) of either Cadillac or Lincoln SUVs for him and his family/entourage; and several suites at really expensive hotels for him and his family/entourage. The promoter apparently values Hannity’s star demands at well over $200,000 per event.” When she dug into the tax returns she found that in 2006 Freedom Alliance, the Oliver North-backed charity affiliated with the concerts, reported revenue of $10,822,785. But that only $397,900, or 3.68 per cent, went to troops or the children of troops while 62 per cent “went to “expenses,” including $979,485 for “consultants” and an “advisor.” … The tax forms show that “New World Aviation” got paid $60,601 for “air travel.” … And finally, that year, Freedom Alliance spent $1,730,816 on postage and shipping and $1,414,215 on printing, for a total of $3,145,031.” She found similar patterns in the returns from 2007 and 2008. Freedom Alliance has issued a response denying all of Schlussel’s claims. She counters that they’re now merely redefining the spending. Other right-wing bloggers respond that the reason so little money has been paid out is that it’s being held in a college fund for the children of veterans. It’s almost impossible, unless you’re an accountant or an expert on heated ‘I love our troops more’ right-wing feuds, to figure out whether Hannity is corrupt or Schlussel has an axe to grind. Or neither. Or both. But if you have any (non-rant-based) information to share, email at the address below.

Sean Hannity’s "Freedom Alliance" charity is a huge scam!

For the last several years, Sean Hannity and the Freedom Alliance “charity” have conducted “Freedom Concerts” across America. They’ve told you that they are raising money to pay for the college tuition of the children of fallen soldiers and to pay severely wounded war vets. And on Friday Night, Hannity will be honored with an award for this “Outstanding Community Service by a Radio Talk Show Host” at Talkers Magazine’s convention. But it’s all a huge scam. Debbie Schlussel , a conservative radio talk show host, columnist, and attorney has been looking into Hannity’s so called “charity” and this is what she found: I began investigating these claims, and lo and behold, I discovered that Freedom Alliance gives very little money to the children of slain troops to pay for college and even less to wounded troops. The stories of injuries to troops and how much Freedom Alliance gives them–$200 for a soldier from a poor neighborhood who lost three limbs–is heartbreaking. Soldiers with traumatic brain injuries, severe wounds to the face from disfiguring burns and explosions, and multiple amputations got $1,000 or less, with only a handful of exceptions. The tax forms available to the public for the Freedom Alliance–for the years 2006-2008–paint a tragic story, a story of a charity that makes gazillions and spends very little for the purposes it claims, a charity that spends millions more on its small staff and crony consultants than it ever gives in scholarships to the children of the fallen or severely injured troops or in aid to the injured troops themselves. While Hannity’s Freedom Concerts take in millions, only a few hundred thousand go to the claimed intended recipients.

Mary J. Blige Dishes On Her ‘Crazy’ Led Zeppelin Covers

‘I’ve listened to their music since I was a child,’ says the R&B diva, who recorded ‘Stairway to Heaven’ and ‘Whole Lotta Love.’ By James Montgomery, with reporting by Larry Carroll Mary J. Blige Photo: MTV News You wouldn’t peg Mary J Blige as the black-light-and-tapestry sort, but, as has become readily apparent in recent weeks, she absolutely loves Led Zeppelin. In early February, reports began circulating that Blige had re-recorded Zeppelin’s classic “Stairway to Heaven,” working with Travis Barker, “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson and guitarist Steve Vai on the track, which is slated to appear on the international reissue of her Stronger With Each Tear album, due Monday. But after she had recorded “Stairway,” Blige continued to get the Led out, covering another Zeppelin classic — the thunderous “Whole Lotta Love” — for the album too. And when MTV News caught up with her on the Black Women in Hollywood red carpet, she told us all about channeling her inner Robert Plant for the tracks, a process that came much easier than you’d probably imagine. “I did Led Zeppelin’s ‘Stairway to Heaven’ and ‘Whole Lotta Love’ — it’s crazy,” she said. “I am a Led Zeppelin fan. I’m not going to say I’ve been to their concerts, but I’ve listened to their music since I was a child, and it’s always moved me, especially ‘Stairway to Heaven,’ and ‘Whole Lotta Love’ is just fun.” Blige also said she recorded another new song — a “club record” called “I Can’t Wait” — for the re-release. And while it’s only slated to hit shelves outside the U.S., she hopes her fans will get a chance to hear all the new songs pretty soon. “I want y’all to hear it,” she laughed.

Ke$ha Slams Britney Spears For Lip-Synching

‘I would never do that to my fans,’ ‘Tik Tok’ singer reportedly says. By Gil Kaufman Ke$ha Photo: Splash News Online Ke$ha recently lashed out at Britney Spears for lip-synching during her concerts. “I think that’s bullsh–,” Ke$ha reportedly told the U.K.’s “I don’t think that’s fair at all for people who are going to see the show. I think if you are going to be a singer, you should sing. If you are going to be a dancer, you should dance.” Ke$ha, who sang background vocals on Britney’s 2008 track “Lace and Leather,” said Spears should be clearer about which parts of her show are live and which are pre-recorded. “If you are going to do a combination of the two, you should make it very clear when you are singing and very clear when you are dancing,” she said. “I would never do that to my fans.” But even though her comments were harsh, Ke$ha said she meant no offense to Spears. “People have asked me before to mime,” she explained. “I have been up at three in the morning for a television show with jet lag, but I refuse to mime … It’s treating people as if they are too stupid to realize you are not actually singing. “Sometimes it is hard to sing and dance at the same time but I would rather be off and be real and genuine about it to my fans. I don’t want to treat my fans like they are stupid.” A representative for Ke$ha had not responded to MTV News’ requests for comment at press time, and a spokesperson for Spears had no comment. “That is my take on my fans and life in general,” said Ke$ha. “My whole record is super-honest. I am really honest. When I am singing I may sound sh—y sometimes, but at least you’ll know I’m singing.” Related Photos MTV.com Exclusive: Ke$ha Related Artists Ke$ha Britney Spears
