A List Of The Most Peaceful States In The U.S. Yesterday , we posted a list of the most violent states based on a new study done by Institute for Economics and Peace. Today, we bring you the counterpart to that state and highlight the most peaceful places to live and visit. April 24 (Reuters) – Violence and its aftermath cost the U.S. economy some $460 billion last year, according to the Institute for Economics and Peace’s second annual United States Peace Index, released on Tuesday. Those costs – which include direct burdens like medical care for victims and the prison system and indirect factors like lost productivity – vary widely by state, with the most peaceful states bearing the lowest burden and the most violent spending far more. A state’s level of peacefulness is not the only factor that determines the economic toll of violence; its population and level of overall economic activity also has a strong influence. Her name: Pearl Osbourne arrived weighing 8 pounds and 6 ounces, according to a Hello magazine tweet that was re-tweeted by Jack and then other sites. “Well @lisamarstelly is supposed to give birth to our baby tomorrow,” the 25-year-old father tweeted last week. Guess Pearl knew how to be fashionably late! “Still pregnant,” the 26-year-old new (but exasperated) mama tweeted Friday. “Apparently I made too lovely of a home int here! #overit #comeonbaby.” But at last, she made it. “Thank you all so much for your congratulations but they realy [sic] should be gonig to @lisamarstelly & @mrjacko! I am one proud Auntie!” added his sister Kelly Osbourne. “Today I witnessed my first grandchild being born, life changing experience,” tweeted Jack’s mother, Sharon Osbourne. “She is an angel.” Ozzy Osbourne has four other grandchildren, as well. NY Jets CB Antonio Cromartie Welcomes 10th Child We hope this guy can remember all his kids’ names this time around. SMH! Fix the scoreboard: Now it’s 10 kids from eight women in six states. Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie, 27, recently had his second child with wife Terricka, making 10 — one short of a football squad. Their baby boy, Jagger, joins sister Jurzie — and eight half-siblings from Cromartie baby mamas across the country. But the happy occasion is mixed with turmoil. His far-flung fatherhood has intrigued a TV production company that wants to create a reality show about the clan “trying to co-exist as a modern family,” a source told The Post. Most of the moms want to do the show, but “Cro” says no. The baby mamas he left behind have banded together so their kids can bond with their brothers and sisters in California, Texas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and New Jersey. The single women can use the extra money to help raise their kids, but they also think it’s important “to document their journey,” the source said. “They want Antonio’s support.” Cromartie has deflected the plan, blocking any filming of his offspring. It’s not the kind of spotlight sought by Cromartie, who famously fumbled the names of his brood on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” in 2010 — and even forgot to count one kid. Once busy playing the field, the fertile footballer has angered his first baby mama by wresting custody of their son, Alonzo, now 7. “He’s supposedly a role model, but he’s not doing what he should be doing as a father, or as a man,” said mom Rosemita Pierre, of Tallahassee, Fla. Cromartie defies a court order that allows her to speak with her son three times a week, she charged. “They don’t answer the phone,” said Pierre, who’s called the cops in Randolph, NJ, to knock on Cromartie’s door. “It’s a hurtful situation — like he’s trying to erase me.” Pierre, who gets no child support from Cromartie, favors the TV show because she wants her son to know all his half-siblings. So does Ryan Ross, a hotel employee in Los Angeles, who met Cromartie at a San Diego nightclub, dated him about six months, and delivered his fifth child, son Tyler Jae, now 4. Ross first encountered another Cromartie baby mama when she brought newborn Tyler to visit the former-San Diego Charger at his apartment. She ran into Latoya Burley, of Houston, Texas, who was there visiting with daughter Deyjah, her first of two with Cromartie. They hit it off. Ross now stays in touch with several other Cro baby mamas. “We’re not catty women. We have a close, tight-knit friendship and understand what each other’s going through. We reach out to share news about the kids, to talk, to vent,” she said. As for Cromartie, she said, “We co-exist for the sake of my son.” Cromartie — who signed a four-year, $32 million contract last fall — pays more than $3,500 a month to each baby mama, except Pierre. He was sacked as a womanizer and cad by Rhonda Patterson, a corporate lawyer and ex-Miss Black North Carolina. She wrote a memoir, “Love, Intercepted,” telling how Cromartie wooed her, then canceled their wedding a week before the event and dumped her six months pregnant. Soon after, she learned Cromartie wed Terricka Cason, a model with a child from a prior relationship. Patterson, whose daughter, London, 3, “is the joy of my life,’’ wants no more to do with the jilting Jet. “That chapter for me has completely closed — talking about Antonio, thinking about Antonio, even caring what’s going on in his personal life,” she said. But, she added, “I wish him the best. Any time a baby is born, it’s a blessing.” Now that sounds like one helluva reality show! ‘Call Me Maybe’ singer calls newfound success ‘the greatest surprise.’ By Christina Garibaldi Carly Rae Jepsen Photo: MTV News Just a few months ago, few had heard of Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen , but with the success of her first single, “Call Me Maybe,” the 26-year-old is quickly becoming a household name. Earlier this week, that infectious song became the fastest-selling U.K. single in 2012 so far — yet, what’s even more impressive is who she beat out for the #1 spot: her boss, Justin Bieber . Bieber, who signed the YouTube star to his Schoolboy Records, took to Twitter to send his congratulations. “So i get up today and #BOYFRIEND is #2 on ITUNES chart in the UK!! Incredible!” Bieber tweeted . “Who is #1?? My own artist @carlyraejepsen … hmmmm.” When she stopped by the MTV News offices Monday, Jepsen insisted the only place these two are battling it out is on the charts. “The fact that we are able to have that friendly competition is blowing my mind,” she shared. “I wouldn’t be here without his support and his help, and he is so great about it. He’s just happy for me, which is nice to see.” So, is she going to give up that #1 spot? “We can share it: two #1s!” Jepsen joked, laughing. The pair might actually share the #1 spot in the future, since Jepsen confirmed she and Bieber recorded a duet . But for now, Jepsen is still trying to adjust to the fact that her life has changed so dramatically in just the past few months. “It truly has been a whirlwind, but it’s been a lot of fun,” she said. “It’s just like my entire life changed, and it’s exciting. If you met me before this experience, I would have said my favorite thing about life is when it surprises you. This has been the greatest surprise so far.” Jepsen revealed that a lack of sleep has been the biggest adjustment for her since finding fame, but it’s the time away from her family that she misses the most. “That’s the one downer, because it’s hard not to feel grateful about everything that’s happening,” she said. “But I would say that’s the one hard part, just kind of keeping in touch with everyone. And they’re all so excited, but the most they see me is on TV. Marine To Be Dismissed After Criticizing Obama On Facebook A Marine who criticized President Barack Obama on his Facebook page has committed misconduct and should be dismissed, a military board recommended late Thursday. The Marine Corps administrative board made the decision after a daylong hearing at Camp Pendleton for Sgt. Gary Stein. The board also recommended that Stein be given an other-then-honorable discharge. That would mean Stein would lose his benefits and would not be allowed on any military base. The board’s recommendations go to a general who will either accept or deny them. If the general disagrees with the board, the case could go to the secretary of the Navy. Stein’s lawyers argued that the 9-year Marine, whose service was to end in four months, was expressing his personal views and exercising his First Amendment rights. “We’re truly surprised and disappointed but it was an honor to fight for a hero like Sgt. Stein and every other Marine’s right to speak freely,” Stein’s defense attorney Marine Capt. James Baehr said. During the hearing, the prosecutor, Capt. John Torresala, said Stein went as far as superimposing images of Obama’s face on a poster for the movie “Jackass.” Torresala argued that Stein’s behavior repeatedly violated Pentagon policy that limits the free speech rights of service members, and said he should be dismissed after ignoring warnings from his superiors about his postings. The government submitted screen grabs of Stein’s postings on one Facebook page he created called Armed Forces Tea Party, which the prosecutor said included the image of Obama on the “Jackass” movie poster. Stein also superimposed Obama’s image on a poster for “The Incredibles” movie that he changed to “The Horribles,” the prosecutor said. Torresala also said anti-Obama comments by Stein that were posted on a Facebook page used by Marine meteorologists were prejudicial to good order and discipline, and could have influenced junior Marines. Stein’s security clearance was taken away and he has no future in the Marine Corps because he can’t do his job without that clearance, Torresala said. “The Marine Corps community views the command’s lack of action as some kind of knock on good order and discipline,” Torresala said. “Our own people are questioning why this Marine is not being held accountable.” Stein has said his opinions are his own and has put a disclaimer on his Facebook page saying so. His attorneys argued service members have a right to voice their opinions as long as they do not appear to be presenting their views as being endorsed by the military. They say the Pentagon policy is vague and military officials do not understand it. The Marine Corps has said it decided to take administrative action after Stein declared on Facebook that he would not follow orders from Obama and later clarified that statement saying he would not follow unlawful orders. Stein could face other-than-honorable discharge while seeing his rank reduced to lance corporal and losing his benefits. The nine-year veteran was set to finish his service in four months. He said he was removed from his job at the Marine Corps Recruiting Depot in San Diego last month and given a desk job with no access to computers. Stein said his statement about Obama was part of an online debate about NATO allowing U.S. troops to be tried for the Quran burnings in Afghanistan. In that context, he said, he was stating that he would not follow orders from the president if it involved detaining U.S. citizens, disarming them or doing anything else that he believes would violate their constitutional rights. Small Town Sold For $900,000 Buford is a small place for sure, but so is the world. A remote, unincorporated area along busy Interstate 80 that advertised itself as the smallest town in the United States, Buford was sold at auction for $900,000 on Thursday to an unidentified man from Vietnam. It’s owner for the last 20 years, Don Sammons, served with the U.S. Army as a radio operator in 1968-69. After meeting the buyer, an emotional Sammons said it was hard for him to grasp the irony of the situation. “I think it’s funny how things come full circle,” he said. The buyer attended the auction in person but declined to meet with the media or to be identified. Sammons and others involved in the auction would not discuss the buyer’s plans for Buford. It will take about 30 days for all the paperwork to be completed before ownership of the place located almost equidistant between Cheyenne and Laramie in southeast Wyoming changes hands, Sammons said. The new owner will get a gas station and convenience store, a schoolhouse from 1905, a cabin, a garage, 10 acres, and a three-bedroom home at 8,000 feet altitude — overlooking the trucks and cars on the nearby interstate on one side and the distant snowcapped mountains in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado on the other. The town traces its origins to the 1860s and the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad. Buford had as many as 2,000 residents before the railroad was rerouted. Sammons, who moved to the Buford area about 30 years ago from Los Angeles to get away from the busy city life, bought the trading post on Jan. 31, 1992.
