Who’da thunk it? As much as most of us probably laughed when we heard that a “Paranormal Activity 3″ was coming to a theater near us, thousands spent their money to check it out this weekend, making it a record-breaking film. Paramount’s threequel/prequel will have to settle with merely being the second- biggest horror debut ever, the eighth-biggest R-rated opening, and the top October launch. Tragic, I know. The $5 million film grossed a massive $54 million this weekend, which is a 35% jump from Paranormal Activity 2′s $40.6 million opening this time last year. The film had a massively front loaded weekend, the ninth-biggest on record, with a mere 2.06x weekend multiplier. Still, that was better than the 2.01x weekend multiplier for Paranormal Activity 2 last year (the sixth-smallest such multiplier). The picture played 53% under-25 and 54% female. Considering the film pulled just in $1.7 million more at midnight, the $26 million opening day (around $6 million more than Paranormal Activity 2′s $20.6 million Friday) and $14 million jump in total opening weekend compared to the last film, there is a clear growth in this series. Which probably means there will be a “Paranormal Activity 4″… The first film opened very slowly, with massive per-screen averages leading up to a pre-Halloween wide release that grossed $21 million against the opening weekend of the comparatively under performing Saw VI ($14 million). Paranormal Activity ended up with $109 million, while the sequel opened with a massive $40 million weekend but ended with just $84 million (a meager 2.1x weekend-to-final gross multiplier). Even if the third picture manages equally poor legs, it will still end up with $113 million. Whether or not the series has peaked with the third installment like Saw III, this uber-cheap franchise has been a licence to print money for the last three years and should continue to be so for the next few Halloweens. Paramount has scored a studio’s dream – blockbuster grosses on a franchise with minuscule costs. It’s already done $26 million worldwide, giving the film a massive (for a cheap horror film) $80 million worldwide debut. They are the next style superstars to receive the Rodeo Drive Walk of Style Awards, which are permanent plaques on the sidewalk of one of the world’s most famous, fashion-conscious shopping streets. The Walk of Style aims to remind both tastemakers and tourists that Los Angeles has earned its fashion credibility with red carpets, film wardrobes and important retailers, even if it isn’t where most of the industry hangs its hat. Previous recipients include Tom Ford, Giorgio Armani, Donatella Versace and Manolo Blahnik, all of whom attended the splashy celebrity-filled party held as part of the awards. The expectation is the same for Sunday’s ceremony. Angela Missoni, creative director for her family’s company, says three generations will be there, including her nonagenarian father Ottavio, who founded the brand with her mother Rosita, and Angela’s daughter Margherita. Iman is coming, too, but she’s coming without her husband, David Bowie. He is staying behind in New York to take their 11-year-old to school the next day. (Daughter Alexandria will probably use the occasion to raid her closet and walk around the house in high heels, Iman says.) Peri Ellen Berne, chairwoman of the event, says her panel of media, entertainment and fashion insiders tries to take a broad look at style influencers and come up with some unexpected choices. “We try to keep it interesting,” she says. Iman is the sort of woman young girls aspire to be like, says Berne, carving out careers as both a model and entrepreneur, while finding time to be a real champion of charity. Her second grandbaby won’t arrive until February, but proud grandma Tina Knowles has been dishing out the details about baby bump Bey Bey’s pregnancy. She tells Life & Style magazine, “She went through morning sickness, but she’s got past it now… and she’s busy. She’s craving waffles… the normal – just wanting to eat!” Knowles reveals her daughter and son-in-law Jay-Z already know the sex of their first child – but they’re not telling. And she insists they’ll be great parents: “Beyonce is going to be an awesome mum. I think it (motherhood) will slow her down somewhat, but I think she’ll be the same great person she’s (always) been… (and) I think he’s (Jay-Z) going to be awesome. They are very, very happy and just glowing. It’s great to see.” So sweet. Bey better be careful though, those waffles go right to the hips — especially when you pair them with her favorite Popeye’s chicken!

Are chubby lumpkins really s’posed to be motivated by someone who only has a lil baby weight to lose? Mel B has been chosen as the face of Jenny Craig weight loss in Australia and New Zealand… Um, doesn’t she have a workout DVD she released that she can do??? SMH. At a breakfast launch in Sydney, Mel B told an audience: ‘I was eating literally eating morning, noon and night, and its didn’t matter what time. I was just eating. I was a house. She added: ‘Life gets a bit crazy when you’ve got four daughters but it’s important for us mums to live healthy and to be in good shape. ‘Mums really need to take time for themselves and get to a place where they are happy with their body again. We should not put it off because we deserve more than that. I healthy happy mum equals a healthy happy family.’ Mel currently weighs 165 lbs but hopes to be down to 132 by the new year, Sydney’s Daily Telegraph reported. Jenny Craig boss Amy Smith said Mel had told the company she didn’t like dieting. ‘She loves eating healthy foods and she is thrilled with the health snack options and the amount of fruit and vegetables she gets to eat. ‘Jenny Craig’s team of nutritionists and doctors have created a program especially for women like Mel who have recently given birth, that takes into consideration the nutrient levels needed for breastfeeding women.’ Mel, who is in Australia where she is a judge on the X Factor, was known for her ripped body and in 2008 even released a workout DVD called Totally Fit. Gotta love how she is rockin the Hammer pants to act like she’s really “thick”. Nice try Mel, you look soooooo fat. SMH. Baby weight or not, we are pretty sure Mel B doesn’t need no Jenny Craig to get her down to pre-Madison size, but congrats to her anyway. Make that money while you get your slimmy trimmy on Mel!
