SMH: South Carolina Mom Stuck With Cleanup Bill After Son Is Killed By An Undocumented Drunk Driver

This is just horrible… A drunk driver killed this woman’s son last year and she got stuck with the cleanup bill. A South Carolina woman faced tragedy last June when a drunk driver killed her oldest son. But the still-grieving mother, Loretta Robinson, is now being billed for the various charges associated with the accident, including a $50 charge to clean her son’s blood off the road. Justin Walker, Robinson’s deceased son, was not found at fault for the accident. The accused driver, Anna Gonzalez, tearfully pleaded guilty in court last Tuesday, the Daily Mail reported. According to MSNBC, the undocumented woman had been living in the United States for 12 years, but never got a South Carolina driver’s license. Gonzalez was sentenced to 17 years in prison. Robinson was on hand in court to express her outrage at the bills she’s received since losing her son. “I had to pay to have the vehicle towed. I had to pay for the vehicle to be removed and to clean up the street from Justin’s blood,” Robinson said. According to WYFF, Robinson also paid to have the wrecked car stored for months in case there was a trial. The South Carolina State Office of Victims Assistance offers a combined total of up to $15,000 for medical, funeral, counseling and wage compensation for the families of victims of crime. According to NBC Greenville, Robinson received some money from the victim’s assistance office, but it did not cover the costs of cleanup or storage. There has been some recent controversy about the crime rate among undocumented immigrants in the United States. In March, the Scott Gardiner Act, a bill that would authorize the deportation of any undocumented immigrant convicted of drunk driving, was reintroduced to Congress by Representatives Sue Myrick and Mike McIntyre, News 14 Carolina reported. “We have to be able, as a country, to figure out a way with people here who are illegal and commit crimes,” Robinson told WYFF. We really feel for Ms. Robinson. Our prayers are with you. R.I.P. Justin! Source WYFF

Emma Stone Covers Vogue, Receives Amazing Praise

Emma Stone is featured on the cover of next month’s Vogue . And while photos of the actress are downright gorgeous, it’s actually the praise she receives from those associated with The Amazing Spider-Man that really stands out. Just consider… Director Marc Webb : “A lot of young actresses are either very serious or doe-eyed. Emma sidesteps that.” Producer Matt Tolmach : “She’s stunning, so she’s disarming.” Co-star/boyfriend Andrew Garfield : “Working with Emma was like diving into a thrilling, twisting river and never holding on to the sides.” For a lot more from Emma and about Emma, pick up the July issue of Vogue .

George Zimmerman Jailhouse Phone Calls Released; Wife Told to Move Money, Buy Bulletproof Vest

Audio recordings from phone calls George Zimmerman made in jail in April were released on Monday by prosecutors in the Trayvon Martin case. The six conversations are part of the state’s evidence alleging that he and his wife, Shellie Zimmerman , misled the court during his April bond hearing. The former neighborhood watch volunteer is charged with killing 17-year-old Martin in February. Zimmerman said he shot Trayvon in self defense. George Zimmerman Jailhouse Calls A judge released him on $150,000 bond after the couple testified they had little money. But the calls recorded after his arrest tell a different story. Zimmerman is heard coaching his wife and sister on moving tens of thousands of dollars donated to his legal defense fund to another account. During one jailhouse conversation, George Zimmerman tells his wife how much it means to him that strangers were donating to his PayPal account. “Ah man, that feels good,” he said. Prosecutors say the phone calls are proof the Zimmermans had access to nearly $130,000 when he was freed. After his wife was able to transfer funds, Zimmerman told her to pay off nearly all their bills and to buy bulletproof vests for her, him and his attorney. “We need to get on it ASAP, cause you know … personally, I want you wearing one,” Zimmerman said from the Seminole County (Florida) Jail. “OK,” she replied. “As uncomfortable as it is, I want you wearing one,” he said. Zimmerman, who was wearing a vest back when he was released on bond, also discusses a possible escape route and renting two cars to throw off the media, possibly driving into a hotel with an attached garage or heading to an airport to fly to “heaven.” In one conversation as the two are planning a possible escape route, Zimmerman talks about going to a hotel like the Western he stayed at in Tampa, and that if he is in a car he could wear “his hoodie” and lie down as they are driving away. Zimmerman was ordered back to jail earlier in June when the judge learned of the money from the defense fund. His wife was arrested and charged with perjury related to her testimony about the family’s finances. Zimmerman’s attorney Mark O’Mara has said repeatedly that the couple was not deceptively trying to withhold information from the courts. They were merely concerned for their safety and unclear about whether he could even use the money yet, and thus whether to report it. The couple show their affection for each other throughout the calls, to be sure, as George Zimmerman warns his wife repeatedly to stay safe. He will seek to be re-released on bond , however unlikely that is.

Roger Clemens Found Not Guilty on All Perjury Charges

Roger Clemens may never make it into the Hall of Fame, but the legendary pitcher doesn’t need to worry any longer about making it through a prison sentence, either. He has been acquitted on all counts of lying to a grand jury. Clemens was on trial for six counts of perjury, stemming from a 2008 statement in front of Congress that he never took steroids or Human Growth Hormone. Since then, however, the hurler has been linked to performance-enhancing drugs in a special report filed by ex-senator George Mitchell and also by his former close friend and personal trainer, Brian McNamee, the latter of whom told the House committee that he injected Clemens several times with illicit substances. But Clemens remained adamant that he believed those substances to be B-12 and lidocaine, neither of which is illegal. This trial (the second for Clemens after one was declared a mistrial due to the handling of evidence last July) lasted for seven weeks and included testimony from Clemens’ wife, who admitted that she had been injected with HGH; and also from Andy Pettitte, the New York Yankees pitcher who backed off previous testimony in which he implicated his friend as a drug user. Despite the verdict, it is widely believed that Clemens did use steroids of some kind over the back half of his career and his legacy will forever be tarnished as a result. UPDATE : Said Clemens in a news conference soon afterward, choking up: “I’m very thankful. It’s been a hard five years.”

SMH: Three Former NFL Players Busted By The Feds For Tax Fraud And Identity Theft

Three Former NFL Players Busted By The Feds For Tax Fraud And Identity Theft When will these muhfuggas learn?? FBI agents faked out a couple of ex-NFL football players and a former local high school star by setting up a check-cashing store “front” in North Miami, where the players are accused of cashing dozens of fraudulently obtained tax-refund checks and seeking a loan — all totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars. The undercover operation, designed to block an alleged identity-theft and tax-refund scheme, sacked a pair of National Football League veterans and a Miami Jackson High graduate: • William Joseph, a University of Miami defensive tackle who was drafted in the first round by the New York Giants in 2003 and last played with the Oakland Raiders in 2010. • Michael Bennett, a University of Wisconsin running back who also was drafted in the first round by the Minnesota Vikings in 2001 and finished his career with the Raiders in 2011. • Louis Gachelin, a Miami Jackson High and Syracuse University defensive lineman who signed as a free agent with the New England Patriots in 2004. Gachelin never made the final roster. Authorities say the latest tax-related fraud case, while unique because of the ex-NFL defendants, is yet another example of the escalating number of reported identity-theft crimes in South Florida and nationwide. FBI agents arrested the three former players — Joseph, 32, of Miramar, Gachelin, 31, of Miramar, and Bennett, 33, of Tampa — on Monday. The defendants were granted bonds Tuesday by U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert Dube. Arraignments are set for May 15. Their lawyers declined to comment. As part of the investigation, the FBI also arrested five other defendants Monday. Joseph, Gachelin and those five defendants were charged with cashing a total of about $500,000 in fraudulently obtained tax-refund checks, forging signatures on the checks and unlawfully using identification documents such as a driver’s license. As part of the sting, the FBI charged 35 percent to 45 percent in fees to cash their checks with the bureau’s own funds. Bennett, charged with wire fraud, tried to obtain a $200,000 loan on April 18 from the check-cashing store front, using a UBS financial statement falsely showing that he had $9 million in collateral for the loan, according to a criminal complaint. Ironically, it was Bennett’s former Raiders’ teammate, Joseph, who introduced him to the undercover store in North Miami. Joseph himself was tripped up by another defendant, Lanny Fried, 34, of Miami Lakes, who got caught trying to cash checks at the store front and then began cooperating with agents to target the former NFL player. U.S. Attorney Wifredo Ferrer said identity theft is “America’s fastest-growing crime,” claiming countless legitimate consumers and taxpayers as victims. “Organized criminals are stealing $5 billion and more by fraudulently claiming tax refunds,” said John V. Gillies, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Miami office. Gillies took a slight jab at the Internal Revenue Service, which has been pressured by Congress to speed up electronic refunds but has not installed ample software protections against ID theft and fraud. “Without proper safeguards, identity theft tax fraud has become a growing epidemic,” Gillies said. Over the last two years, Blake Griffin has made a habit of putting opposing defenders on posters. As this season has progressed, guys have become noticeably irritated with that fact, and it’s gotten to point where they are now getting overly physical with him in order to make a.) the necessary defensive stop and/or b.) a statement. The Real Housewives of Atlanta Reunion Recap: Growth is Hard to Find

Growth is a beautiful thing. Of course it can also be hard to find. The Real Housewives of Atlanta Reunion, Part 1, offered up a lot of talk about growth but what we saw was merely a an hour’s worth of screeching, eye rolling, and one upmanship Atlanta style so we’ll break it down in THG’s +/- review … Andy starts off asking why the ladies love to talk about there designer labels. It’s true, these women are always going on and on about who they’re wearing and what they’re buying. They may think it makes them appear wealthy, but they only look like a bunch of insecure wannabes. Minus 12 . Somehow all roads led back to NeNe tonight. If she wasn’t defending herself or yelling at someone she was rolling her eyes while the others were talking. And she was wearing the most ridiculous looking heels of the group. Minus 5 . How the heck does she walk in those things. First we’ll start off with Kandi whose sex toy line, Bedroom Kandi is making her a mint of money. Plus 8. You go girl! Phaedra says she’s helping make sure the products work well but NeNe simply looks uncomfortable. Kandi calls her out on it. Didn’t NeNe used to be a stripper. Maybe so but sex toys are not her thing.
