Kyle Gallner on A Nightmare on Elm Street and Acting Scared in a Speedo

There’s something about Kyle Gallner that does “tortured” so well. Whether he’s exacting torment on his classmates in Veronica Mars or suffering at the hands of evil in Jennifer’s Body and A Haunting in Connecticut , the 23-year-old actor isn’t afraid to let fear and ferocity flicker across his baby face, and it’s a trait that serves him well as Quentin, the high-schooler who bears the brunt of Freddy Krueger’s wrath in the new remake of Nightmare on Elm Street . This week, Movieline spoke to Gallner about two intriguing indies he has coming up ( Goodnight Moon and Beautiful Boy ) and the most horrifying part of his Elm Street experience: acting in the near-nude for days on end.

NIT Championship 2010

Despite of earning he seat in the final four, the Connecticut Huskies are still not satisfied with their performance. But its opponents did not agree because they are able to defeat it in the last 76 clashes. It was Maya Moore’s stellar performance that made Huskies beat Florida State 90-50 to reach the semifinals. The one that happened shows that the team is really aiming to win. The Huskies won its last match with a 40-point victory. Opinions from basketball experts includes that the team actually set sort of history because it was the biggest event ever in a regional final. Volcano erupts in southern Iceland

REYKJAVIK, Iceland – Authorities evacuated hundreds of people after a volcano erupted beneath a glacier in southern Iceland, Iceland's civil protection agency said Sunday. Aviation officials said the nation's main airport was closed because of risk to aircraft flying through any ash plume, aviation officials told BNO News. Two Icelandair flights from the United States were diverted to Boston Logan International Airport, and another flight didn't leave Boston, BNO News reported. The eruption occurred around 11:30 p.m. Saturday (1930 EDT) beneath the Eyjafjallajokull glacier, the fifth-largest glacier in Iceland. The volcano is covered by an ice cap. Fearing flooding from the glacier melt, authorities evacuated some 400 people in the area 100 miles southeast of the capital, Reykjavik, as a precaution but no damage or injuries have been reported, said Vidir Reynisson, the department manager for the Icelandic Civil Protection Department. A state of emergency has been declared in communities near the 100-square-mile glacier. “We do not at this moment know the full extent of the eruption but a team is flying over the site now to evaluate the situation,” said Reynisson. A European volcanic island in the North Atlantic, Iceland is largely an arctic desert with mountains, glaciers and volcanoes and agricultural areas in the lowlands close to the coastline. 5.6 Earthquake Shakes Eastern Cuba near Guantanamo

A 5.6 magnitude earthquake shocked Santiago and Guantanamo in Eastern Cuba on Saturday. According to independent journalist and writer, Luis Felipe Rojas, there has been partial damages to buildings in Guantanamo and other witnesses in Santiago de Cuba have also reported damages to some buildings. Two other large quakes have been reported in Eastern Cuba, a 4.3 quake on March 2 and a 4.6 quake on March 16. MTV News “Idol” expert Jim Cantiello whipped up a handy cheat sheet for each finalist, breaking down each specific “Idol” journey thus far. He also got the “Idol” hopefuls to weigh in when he caught up with them at Thursday night’s top 12 party in Hollywood. Katie Stevens Katie Stevens is the latest in a long line of teenagers with powerful voices on “American Idol.” So far, the Connecticut 17-year-old has struggled balancing her youthful age with her mature voice, but the voting public rewarded her with a spot in the top 12 anyway. Best Performance : During week one, Katie dared to tackle “Feeling Good” even though Adam Lambert had a “wow” moment with the song last season. She almost succeeded. Weakest Performance : Katie took a step in the right age direction by choosing a Kelly Clarkson song this week. Unfortunately, her uneven vocals on “Breakaway” exposed her youthful inexperience. ‘American Idol’ Top 12 Party Tragic Backstory : Katie is very close with her ailing grandmother, who is struggling with Alzheimer’s disease. Why She Will Win : “American Idol” has a long history of successful teenagers with mature voices. David Archuleta and Diana DeGarmo made it to the finale, and Jordin Sparks won the whole enchilada. Why She Will Lose : So far, Katie’s performances have been more Lisa Tucker than Jordin Sparks. What She Should Sing : Katie needs to embrace her youth and sing an uptempo song. “You Belong With Me” by Taylor Swift seems like a good start. On Her “Older” Song Selections : “Jordin Sparks won and she was my age, and she got the same criticism that I’ve gotten, which is, ‘You need to choose a younger song! Why are you choosing such old songs?’ But you know what? I have to stay true to who I am. And I do sing older stuff. Robert Halderman to Plead Guilty in David Letterman Extortion Plot, Serve Six Months

Emmy-winning CBS News producer Robert ‘Joe’ Halderman pleaded guilty to shaking down David Letterman as payback for the host’s affair with his girlfriend. Today, Halderman admitted giving Dave a “screenplay treatment” that was “a thinly veiled threat to ruin Mr. Letterman if he did not pay me a lot of money.” In exchange for the guilty plea, the extortion plotter will receive a six-month prison sentence, 4 1/2 years probation and 1,000 hours of community service. Outside court, he expressed his remorse for the sordid episode. “I apologize to Mr. Letterman, to his family, to (girlfriend) Stephanie Birkitt and her family, and my family and friends,” said Halderman in a brief statement. The plea came five months after Halderman threatened to expose Letterman’s affairs with several female staffers, including the blackmailer’s ex, Birkitt. David Letterman and his blackmailer, Robert “Joe” Halderman. Letterman released a statement thanking city police and prosecutors for their help in resolving the bizarre case that exposed his fondness for staffers. “I had complete faith that a just and appropriate result was inevitable,” Letterman said. “On behalf of my family, I am extremely grateful for their efforts.” Halderman would have faced up to 15 years behind bars if he had been convicted of a bizarre blackmail scheme involving the long-time Late Show host. David Letterman’s affair with Halderman’s girlfriend, Stephanie Birkitt, ended shortly before his blackmail bid, but also predated her living with Halderman. Halderman was arrested after Letterman – in a stunning admission on air – admitted cheating on wife Regina Lasko and detailed the blackmail attempt. Halderman actually collected a $2 million check from Letterman as part of a sting operation started after the host went to police about the shakedown. He was busted after depositing the check in his Connecticut bank.
