Atheists Supply Less Than 1% Of Prison Populations, While Christians Make -Up 75%.

Atheists Supply Less Than 1% Of Prison Populations ————————————————– It's suprising how many people say to me, “You're an Atheist? You must have no conscience about commiting crime then.” Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, if we examine the population of our prisons, we see a very different picture: In “The New Criminology”, Max D. Schlapp and Edward E. Smith say that two generations of statisticians found that the ratio of convicts without religious training is about 1/10 of 1%. W. T. Root, professor of psychology at the Univ. of Pittsburgh, examined 1,916 prisoners and said “Indifference to religion, due to thought, strengthens character,” adding that Unitarians, Agnostics, Atheists and Free-Thinkers are absent from penitentiariers or nearly so. During 10 years in Sing-Sing, those executed for murder were 65% Catholics, 26% Protestants, 6% Hebrew, 2% Pagan, and less than 1/3 of 1% non-religious. Steiner and Swancara surveyed Canadian prisons and found 1,294 Catholics, 435 Anglicans, 241 Methodists, 135 Baptists, and 1 Unitarian. Dr. Christian, Superintendant of the NY State Reformatories, checked 22,000 prison inmates and found only 4 college graduates. In “Who's Who” 91% were college graduates, and he commented that “intelligence and knowledge produce right living” and that “crime is the offspring of superstition and ignorance.” Surveyed Massachusetts reformatories found every inmate religious, carefully herded by chaplins. In Joliet, there were 2,888 Catholics, 1,020 Baptists, 617 Methodists and 0 non-religious. Michigan had 82,000 Baptists and 83,000 Jews in their state population. But in the prisons, there were 22 times as many Baptists as Jews, and 18 times as many Methodists as Jews. In Sing-Sing, there were 1,553 total inmates with 855 of them Catholics (over half), 518 Protestants, 177 Jews and 8 non- religious. There's a very interesting qualified statistic. Steiner first surveyed 27 states, and found 19,400 Christians, 5,000 with no preference, and only 3 Agnostics (one each in Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Illinois). A later, more complete survey found 60,605 Christians, 5,000 Jews, 131 Pagans, 4,000 no preference, and only 3 Agnostics. In one 29-state survey, Steiner found 15 unbelievers, Spirtualists, Theosophists, Deists, Pantheists and 1 Agnostic among nearly 83,000 inmates. Calling all 15 “anti-christians” made it one half person to each state. Elmira reformatory overshadowed all, with nearly 31,000 inmates, including 15,694 Catholics (half), and 10,968 Protestants, 4,000 Jews, 325 refusing to answer, and 0 unbelievers. In the East, over 64% of inmates are Catholics. In the national prison population they average 50%. A national census found Catholics 15%. They count from the diaper up. Hardly 12% are old enough to commit a crime. Half of these are women. That leaves an adult Catholic population of 6% supplying 50% of the prison population. Liverpool, England produces three percent as many young criminals as Birmingham, a larger city, 28% coming from Catholic schools. What does this tell you about parochial school systems or claims that religion is the guardian of morals? * Fifty-two percent of people belong to no church, yet live clean lives and * * supply less than 1% of the total criminal population. So much for * * religious indoctrination ————————————————————————————————- Now, I ain't saying that I'm an athiest, I'm just saying……….. added by: keithponder

BBC News – Ecuador offers Wikileaks founder Assange residency

Deputy Foreign Minister Kintto Lucas said his country's government wanted to invite Mr Assange to Ecuador to give him the opportunity to speak publicly. He said Ecuador was concerned about some of the alleged American activities revealed by Wikileaks. Earlier this year Sweden refused an application from Mr Assange, who is Australian, for residency there. “We are open to giving him residency in Ecuador, without any problem and without any conditions,” Mr Lucas said. “We are going to try and invite him to Ecuador to freely present, not only via the internet, but also through different public forums, the information and documentation that he has,” he said. Mr Lucas added: “We think it would be important not only to converse with him but also to listen to him.” added by: mik661

Could space farmers grow crops on other planets?

Some scientists question whether soil is necessary for space agriculture Science fiction lovers aren't the only ones captivated by the possibility of colonizing another planet. Scientists are engaging in numerous research projects that focus on determining how habitable other planets are for life. Mars, for example, is revealing more and more evidence that it probably once had liquid water on its surface, and could one day become a home away from home for humans. “The spur of colonizing new lands is intrinsic in man,” said Giacomo Certini, a researcher at the Department of Plant, Soil and Environmental Science at the University of Florence, Italy. “Hence expanding our horizon to other worlds must not be judged strange at all. Moving people and producing food there could be necessary in the future.” Humans traveling to Mars, to visit or to colonize, will likely have to make use of resources on the planet rather than take everything they need with them on a spaceship. This means farming their own food on another planet that has a very different ecosystem than Earth's. Certini and his colleague Riccardo Scalenghe from the University of Palermo, Italy, recently published a study in Planetary and Space Science that makes some encouraging claims. They say the surfaces of Venus, Mars and the moon appear suitable for agriculture. more, at LINK- – – http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/40418493/ns/technology_and_science-space/ graphic- http://www.dunecraft.com/img/products/gift%20ideas/space-plant1.gif added by: remanns

Obama proposes two-year freeze in federal worker’s pay

Money to keep the fake war on terror going in the Middle East, but no money to patch up the deficit. *** President Obama today proposed a a two-year freeze in civilian federal worker pay for calendar year 2011-2012. “I did not reach this decision easily,” Obama said from the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, “This is not just a line-item on a federal ledger. These are people's lives.” The freeze is expected to save $2 billion for the fiscal year 2011 and will save $28 billion when you combine the savings from this year’s freeze, and the second year freeze 2012 across the next 5 years. It is expected to save $60 billion in total over the next 10 years. “The hard truth is that getting this deficit under control is going to require some broad sacrifice,” Obama said, “and that sacrifice must be shared by the employees of the federal government.” added by: maasanova
