‘Jersey Shore’ Star Deena Recalls Dirty-Dancing Past On ‘When I Was 17’

‘Everybody was like, ‘Oh my God, where did that come from?’ ‘ reality starlet says of her suggestive dance-team routines. By James Dinh “Jersey Shore” star Deena appears on “When I Was 17” Photo: MTV News Long before her fist-pumping days in Seaside Heights, “Jersey Shore” star Deena Nicole Cortese was already causing a commotion over her suggestive dance-floor skills. On the latest installment of MTV’s “When I Was 17,” the reality TV newcomer reminiscences about her dirty-dancing antics. “When I was 17, I quit cheerleading and started dancing,” Deena says on Saturday’s episode. “It was great because me and my one girlfriend were the captains of it, and we were, like, making up the dance moves. We got to pick out our outfits and I got to show my dance moves off. It kind of brought my music into the dance team.” With her newfound creative freedom, the New Jersey native whipped up a sassy dance routine. But the high school’s staff wasn’t too impressed with Deena’s choreography. “I remember making up this crazy dance move, like sexy moves, you know, like shaking your butt,” she admits. “Everybody was sitting there like, ‘Oh my God, where did that come from?’ ” Childhood friend Jaimie also remembers the controversy. “Our small town wasn’t ready for the dance moves that came out of Deena’s mind, and definitely made the teachers raise an eyebrow of what was going on,” she says. Despite the reaction of the faculty, the self-proclaimed “Energizer Bunny” says she really never understood why her routine was such a big deal. “[The teachers] were like, ‘Are they allowed to dance like that?’ I’m thinking to myself, ‘Yeah, we can dance like this,’ ” the reality starlet recalls. “It’s allowed. I’m not showing any boob or anything, it’s OK — God, open your windows,” she laughs at the memory. “There’s a lot out there.” “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Deena Cortese and Patrick Stump — premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. ET on MTV. Oh, Of Course: Pam Grier Taught Richard Pryor to Read

Even though Richard Pryor gave her a coke-encrusted vagina once, Mars Attacks! seventeenth-lead Pam Grier claims she taught the comic legend to read while they were dating. In her new memoir, Grier recalls, “He would learn his lines phonetically and people would help him learn his lines, but he’d say, ‘Baby, I wanna learn how to read, and I wanna read War & Peace .” I thought I sensed some Napoleonic angst in Brewster’s Millions . Latest Lea Michele Magazine Controversy Not That Controversial

Why can’t Glee star Lea Michele catch a break with parents? First, she posed in that scandalous GQ photo spread and then she allegedly snubbed True Grit sweetheart Hailee Steinfeld — inciting the wrath of her fans’ parents. Now, Cosmo magazine has unveiled its March cover, which shows the actress posing in a plunging neckline alongside headlines like “The Sex Quiz”, “Get Naked,” and Movieline HQ’ s personal favorite, “For His Thighs Only.” Should we be surprised, and more importantly, should we be angry?

Director Says She’s Glad Rih Rih’s “S&M” Video Is Banned In 11 Countries

Immediately after Rihanna dropped her “S&M” video on Tuesday, people started talking about how controversial it was … like the song isn’t called “S&M”. By Wednesday, it had been banned in 11 countries and the U.K.’s BBC 1 Radio said listeners won’t hear the song before 7pm. Which, to the video’s director Melina Moustakas, means she and Rihanna did their job. “When I go out to make something, I kind of go out with the intention to get it banned — [well] not to get it banned, I always want my stuff played — but to make something provocative,” Matsoukas told MTV News. “So when you do something that’s provocative, that’s usually a repercussion. It’s gonna be talked about or banned or slandered in some way. But it’s making an effect and people are having a dialogue about it, so, to me, that’s successful.” For Matsoukas, it’s the video’s harshest critics who are the most amusing. “I mean, the song is called ‘S&M’!” she laughed. “So I think that the imagery follows suit with what the song is. I wouldn’t play down the imagery for a song that’s so strong. It makes sense to develop it further and really take it there. So if they don’t want to play it, [fans] can watch it somewhere else.” One of those places airing the video uncensored is MTV. Matsoukas, who previously directed Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” and “Rockstar 101″ clips and Beyoncé’s “Why Don’t You Love Me,” said it’s the first time MTV hasn’t requested changes to one of her videos. “I haven’t talked to Rihanna about the controversy,” Matsoukas said. “But she was happy that MTV had no changes, and she was definitely like, ‘See? We made it through!’ Because the whole time we were like, ‘If we use ball gags and we show this, are they gonna play it?’And we just went for it and didn’t care, and people seem to be embracing that.” Again, we applaud Rihanna for owning her “metaphorical” ho sh*t.
