T.I. Covering ‘Once Upon a Time in the Projects’ Is ‘Dope,’ Ice Cube Says

‘I might have a little issue if it’s some of my bigger hits,’ Cube admits of Tip’s F— a Mixtape remake. By Shaheem Reid Ice Cube Photo: MTV News T.I. says when his new mixtape F— a Mixtape drops tomorrow, he won’t be going in on his peers’ beats; he has way too much material for that. The King of the South does, however, pay homage to a legend from the West. The tape will feature a remake of Ice Cube ‘s classic 1990 album cut “Once Upon a Time in the Projects.” “It’s dope,” Cube said about Tip’s musical tip of the hat to him. “It makes you realize you’ve made a impact on some of the younger MCs that come behind you. It’s cool to a point ’cause these are the songs I make my bread and butter off. I might have a little issue if it’s some of my bigger hits,” Cube added. “I might have an issue with that. But ‘Once Upon a Time in the Projects,’ that’s tight.” But Tip isn’t the first MC to rework Cube’s record. On his Doc’s Da Name 2000 LP, Redman took portions of the record for “Jersey Yo!” “Redman’s my man,” Cube smiled. “We go back a long way &#8212 all the way back to when he was just hanging out with EPMD. Red, he’s got a lot more leeway. But T.I.’s dope. I’m a fan of his records, so that’s tight.” On F— a Mixtape, dropping Thursday, T.I. worked with DJs Drama and MLK. The cover of the tape was released online on Wednesday and features a couple of old-school cassettes scattered beneath some newspapers with visible headlines. “We been talking about it for a minute &#8212 a long time,” Drama told MTV News in April. “It’s been quite a while since Tip has done a Gangsta Grillz. I guess The Leak was the last one. When Tip first got home, I had the conversation with him. ‘You home, Gangsta Grillz as a brand is still as hot as it ever was, almost helping breathe back life into the mixtape game. I think it will be right to come back full circle to where you are, to where the brand is.’ That’s how the conversation started.” Ice Cube’s new LP , I Am the West comes out July 13. Whose version do you like better? T.I.’s or Cube’s? Tell us in the comments! Related Artists Ice Cube T.I.

Diddy Reveals His Oscar Influence On ‘Inside The Actor’s Studio’

‘I’m gonna help you win an Oscar,’ producer/actor recalls telling ‘Monster’s Ball’ co-star Halle Berry. By Jayson Rodriguez Diddy appears on “Inside The Actor’s Studio” on Tuesday Photo: Bravo It turns out Diddy ‘s Midas touch extends beyond music. The hip-hop mogul told “Inside the Actor’s Studio” host James Lipton, during his pre-taped appearance that aired Tuesday night (May 25), that he predicted Halle Berry would win an Academy Award for “Monster’s Ball” — with his aid. “I knocked on Halle’s door at a hotel,” Diddy recalled, after his acting coach urged him to jet across the country to claim his role in the movie. “And she was like, ‘What are you doing here?’ I was like, ‘Give me five minutes. Do you remember when people just looked at you as a pretty face? Remember in “Strictly Business” and no one would give you chance? I know you may think that I’m gonna be polarizing, that I’m gonna take your shot to win a Oscar.’ But I said, ‘I’m gonna help you win an Oscar. I’m gonna be believable.’ I said, ‘Give me a chance.’ ” Berry, of course, did go on to earn an Oscar for her portrayal of Leticia Torres, an embattled wife whose husband was executed by her new lover, a fact she learned after their hookup. Diddy joked that with Berry’s win and later Phylicia Rashad’s Tony win for “A Raisin in the Sun,” he has a recruiting pitch for his future co-stars. “You’ll always win,” he said. Throughout his conversation with Lipton, Diddy was engaging, jovial and displayed a restrained charisma. The producer/rapper-turned-actor had the support of his mother, Janice Combs, and his son, Justin Combs, who were seated in the audience, along with a number of aspiring actors, writers and directors. Diddy took questions from the crowd and told the students to never take no for an answer, citing the encouragement from his acting coach, Susan Batson. Diddy appeared on the show to help promote his latest film, “Get Him to the Greek.” In the movie, Diddy plays an over-the-top record executive — he told Lipton his character, Sergio, was only mildly similar to himself — that has been earning rave reviews from his co-stars, including Jonah Hill . “I think Diddy’s going to really shock people,” Hill told MTV News earlier this year. “We were saying Diddy’s kind of the McLovin of ‘Get Him to the Greek.’ You don’t know what he’s going to do. Every time he breathes in the movie, it garners a huge laugh.” What did you think about Diddy’s “Inside the Actor’s Studio” appearance? Let us know in the comments! Rick Ross Says ‘Super High’ Video Is ‘Like A Flashback Of ‘Easy Rider’ ‘

‘It’s gonna look like a mini-movie as opposed to just a music video,’ co-star Ne-Yo says of the F. Gary Gray-directed clip. By Shaheem Reid Stacy Dash and Rick Ross Photo: MTV News Rick Ross is sitting on top of the world — in his new video for “Super High,” Ross, along with his lady, straddles his motorcyle on a mountain top. “Shout-out to F. Gary Gray,” Ross said recently on the set of the clip. “That’s my favorite director throughout film. I met him … Diddy introduced me to him one night. When I completed the record, I flew out to L.A. and met with him. I played [the track] for him. I gotta shout him out big time. … But he video is actually like flashback of [the movie] ‘Easy Rider’ — a bunch of homies hoggin’ the highway. We run across a beautiful young lady which happens to be Stacie Dash , and a dude — he’s a d—– bag. I end up snatching her and spending the rest of the evening with her, the way a boss should.” “It’s basically Ross and his gang riding around doing what they do,” guest star Ne-Yo said of the clip. “This is my first time working with F. Gary Gray. So far, so good. He’s a movie director, so everything is gonna have that cinematic edge to it. It’s gonna look like a mini-movie as opposed to just a music video.” Sure enough, Gray choreographed a scene were Ross and his road dawgs surround the sports vehicle being driven by Dash’s original beau and, of course, Ross got a performance scene as well, let his swagger shine in his custom-made leather jacket. In a later scene, Ross and Ne-Yo sit at a table together in a bar filled with tough guys and sexy ladies. While on set, Ne-Yo did say that the song has nothing to do with indulging in narcotics. “It’s just about feeling good,” The Grammy Award-winning singer clarified. “Doing things that maybe regular people can’t do. You work hard so you get to play hard.” Ross explained that he was inspired to write the record while looking down at Central Park from Diddy’s penthouse in Manhattan. “The concept actually came from me and Diddy — we was running around New York City one night, went back to his penthouse and that’s where the actual term ‘super high’ comes from,” Ross offered. “It’s 5 o’clock in the morning. I’m just burning, I’m thinking. [Diddy] turned on ‘Purple Rain,’ Prince. A few homies were in there — D Roc, me and him reminiscing, talking about Biggie. After the conversation I just stopped watching the movie and walked to the huge window. And I was reflecting like, ‘Wow.’ It had me reflecting on how far I came as a artist and as a person. “When you trying to get better as an artist, a lot of times we coming from the streets. We’re flawed in a lot of ways. We trying to get better as people,” he explained. “I was reflecting on that, realizing how significant the title Teflon Don is, even though that was one of my first rap names and one of the first tattoos I got. I just came with the whole first verse looking out the view: ‘From my n—a Diddy view, I think I see his vision too/ ‘Purple Rain,’ over Central Park, chillin’ with my goons.’ I was just capturing them moments and putting it over beats.” Teflon Don is slated to drop on June 29 and Diddy, Kanye West and Jay-Z have all contributed to the project. Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart Address Romance Rumors On ‘Oprah’

‘Kristen’s pregnant,’ Pattinson jokes about their rumored romance. By Jocelyn Vena Robert Pattinson on “Oprah” Photo: Harpo Productions When the “Twilight Saga: Eclipse” cast stopped by “The Oprah Winfrey Show” on Thursday (May 13), Taylor Lautner dished about what kind of girl he’s looking for. But it was Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart who were really put on the spot by the talk-show maven regarding all those romance rumors . Rather than directly answering the question of whether or not they’re dating, the pair once again took the high road about the rumors and made light of it all. “Kristen’s pregnant,” Pattinson joked, with Stewart going along for the ride: “He really loves to shock people because he thinks it’s funny. No, we’ve actually had this conversation. He’s having the baby.” It seems that regardless of where she stands with Pattinson, Stewart’s real love is her cat, Max. “I’m obsessed with my cat,” she said. “[We] have a very Edward-and-Bella relationship. It’s, like, very co-dependent with my cat.” And Stewart admits that like her “Twilight” co-stars, she doesn’t like to party it up. Instead, the crew prefers more low-key nights. “[I’d] probably be desperately calling up everyone in my phone book,” Pattinson said. “[Seeing if] anyone I had ever met was doing something, because no one would have called me.” Lautner also generally just sees who is around in his life to hang out with, unless “American Idol” is on that night. Then, he’s already got plans. “Sunday I’d be watching ‘Celebrity Apprentice,’ ” he explained. “Saturday’s a little difficult for me. I don’t know. I’m bored on Saturdays. … Most likely I’m just spending time at home. I’m seeing if anybody wants to hang out with me too.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . Young Jeezy Reveals His Paranoia In ‘Lose My Mind’ Video

In new clip, featuring Plies, Jeezy parties hard while thinking about more dangerous times. By Jayson Rodriguez Young Jeezy in his “Lose My Mind” video Young Jeezy delivered the unofficial anthem for Barack Obama’s election with his last album, The Recession, and the Atlanta MC is back in the streets with his forthcoming effort Thug Motivation 103. The video for the album’s first single “Lose My Mind” featuring Plies premiered on MTV 2 on Monday (April 26), and from the onset, Jeezy takes it back to his trap days. “I got a lot going on,” he begins in a voiceover, as he’s seen chatting with his USDA cohort Boo Rossini. “Rap stuff, street stuff, it’s all the same things. Pressure bust pipes, holes sink ships.” From there, Jeezy ventures to the club, where he boasts about the riches fame has afforded him. In a stark, black-and-white visual, director Taj captures the Def Jam superstar in his glory. But as images flash of girls, bottles and hangers-on enjoying the celebrations, the clip catches Jeezy battling the paranoia he still experiences from his former occupation. “Like I was saying, I just feel different,” he says, midway through the clip, picking up the conversation where the video’s intro leaves off. A solitary Jeezy is then shown walking to a men’s room, rubbing his eyes and distancing himself from the festivities. He ambles into a stall and turns around to see a figure rising from a covered gurney. The hallucination ends with Jeezy in a leather straitjacket, reflecting the song’s lyrics: “I’m hearing voices in my head/ Think I’m schizophrenic,” he raps. “I swear they sayin’ ‘Let’s Get It’/ From another planet.” “To me, it’s my life,” Jeezy told MTV News last month about the track. “That’s how I feel sometimes when I go out. If you listen to me, I said it a few times: ‘Lost my mind and my cell phone in the same night.’ No two days are the same. … I been partying my whole life. That’s how you feel the next day. You killed them, and you left. You was looking good, shining good, there’s no limit to what you can have in the club. That’s how it’s been for us before music. ” ‘Lose My Mind’ is doing what the hell I wanna do in the club. If it’s 100 bottles of ros

‘American Idol’ Fave Crystal Bowersox Was ‘Never Angry’ With Ryan Seacrest

Bowersox says she didn’t threaten to quit the show. By Gil Kaufman Crystal Bowersox Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images Despite the drama surrounding her alleged attempt to quit the show, Crystal Bowersox said she is not mad at “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest for talking to the press about her moment of doubt. Bowersox told People magazine that despite reports to the contrary, she doesn’t hold a grudge against the sometimes excitable host for spilling the beans about a conversation they had in the “Idol” parking lot a few weeks ago. “We were never angry with each other. We had a conversation. He gave me good advice, and I highly respect him,” said Bowersox, who confirmed that there is “no beef” between her and Seacrest. She also threw water on speculation that the conversation was a result of her contemplating leaving the show, on which she is the undisputed front-runner. “No,” was her simple answer to a question about whether he talked her down from quitting. Bowersox also explained why she had such an emotional reaction on Tuesday night when she sang “People Get Ready,” a performance that was instantly tagged as one of the best of the season , if not the history of the show. “I looked up and saw the mirror of the sunglasses my dad brought because he was trying to hide it if he cried,” Bowersox explained of the sight that brought her to tears before she finished her song. “And was like, ‘I know he’s crying.’ ” After breaking down onstage during her performance, Sox explained to Seacrest that seeing her dad in the audience for the first time had made her very emotional.
