Pharrell Encourages The Clipse To Sign With Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music

‘I think that’s gonna be amazing,’ N.E.R.D. frontman tells Mixtape Daily of possible deal. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Steven Roberts Clipse Photo: MTV News Celebrity Favorites: Pharrell Williams When we broke the “good” news last week that Pusha T and his brother Malice might be going over to Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music , the blogs and Twitter started going ham. “A great day for music, but it’s a ‘good’ day,” Pusha said about putting his Fear of God mixtape out September 14 — a date that has been dubbed G.O.O.D. Music Day, because it’s when albums from West, Kid Cudi, Big Sean and Consequence are expected to drop. “I mean, you know, I been to Hawaii. Hawaii is a nice place. Good music is made down there, ya know? So, yeah, I was there. I can’t say too much about that. I think everybody’s gonna be in for a big surprise, a very big surprise.” We already know what the Clipse and Kanye sound like together: “Kinda Like a Big Deal” was a heralded banger, and the Brothers Thornton threw barbed-wire lines all over the beat from “Swagga Like Us” on their Road to Till the Casket Drops mixtape. Well, on Monday, it just so happened that N.E.R.D. performed right on the 24th floor in the MTV building (#PerksOf1515). After the show, we asked Pharrell Williams — who is the Clipse’s most frequent producer and hometown friend — whether his VA brethren linking up with West would work. Skateboard P gave a resounding co-sign. “I think that’s gonna be amazing,” Pharrell said. “[Pusha] had been working with ‘Ye. I told him, ‘You should do that.’ We made a lot of great records together, and we’ll continue to make great records. I want him to grow and get other experiences out in the world. He’s gotta figure that out. He’s gotta go out there and see it. Make no mistake, lyrically, that kid is one of the greats — him and his brother. Lyrically, those guys are really serious. They’re well-respected by all of the good dudes. Jay-Z loves them, T.I., Jeezy loves them. All of your favorite rappers, they appreciate a Pusha line or a Malice line. They do. I’m saying with respect for all those artists — I work with those artists. I know the conversations we had. They like what they do. It’s been a long time coming for Pusha and what it is he’s trying to do. He’s gonna get it. And Malice too.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc . REVIEW: David Lynch, Todd Haynes Tops Among Great Directors

I don’t know if Angela Ismailos’s Great Directors is a great documentary, but for the most part it’s a treat to watch. On second thought, I do know: This not a great or even a particularly good documentary. It lacks structure, posits fandom as perspective and persists in drifting into unforgivable transitional shots of this or that filmmaker looking moody and glamorous. And yet it’s packed with raw material that even lesser directors than Ismailos couldn’t ruin: She gained access to 10 of the world’s more interesting directors and recorded their conversations at length. Though the movie is largely vanilla in its pleasures, film lovers will eat it up.

Lil Wayne Records Verse For Drake’s ‘Light Up’ From Prison

‘Recording over the phone, I hope the call don’t drop,’ Wayne raps in remix. By Jayson Rodriguez Lil Wayne Photo: Frank Micelotta/ Getty Images Lil Wayne has blogged from the bing and hosted a mixtape from prison , and now the Cash Money Records superstar has kicked a rhyme from behind bars. Weezy recorded a verse for Drake’s “Light Up” featuring Jay-Z ; the original track is set to appear on the Toronto MC’s forthcoming debut, Thank Me Later, slated for a June 15 release. Drizzy premiered the number Tuesday night during a Ustream session with Jas Prince, the son of legendary Rap-A-Lot Record founder J. Prince. “I’m feeling like Elvis, ‘Jailhouse Rock,’ ” Wayne raps via telephone. “I’m not 2Pac, I’m the new ‘Pac/ Behind bars, but the bars don’t stop/ Recording over the phone, I hope the call don’t drop/ Drizzy got the ball, I know the ball won’t drop/ And I pray none of my kids ever wanna be Pop.” Drake first hinted at the “Light Up” remix during his listening session in New York last week. The Young Money recording artist visited his mentor prior to the session and later told MTV 2 “Sucker Free” host DJ Envy that he and Wayne would release a joint project . The album version features only Drake and Jay-Z as the two rappers trade rhymes about their experience in the rap game. Drake told MTV News in March that the track is similar to the advice and conversations he has with the Brooklyn wordsmith. “It’s just me and Jay both rapping on it for an extended period of time,” Drake explained “It’s real rap. I do sing on it, but it’s just on the hook. It’s great. The perspective, the dynamic on the track — it’s me and Jay’s relationship on the song, basically. When you hear it, people will be like, ‘Oh man.’ That’s how we are — just the two. He definitely has guided me a lot, as far as his words and his advice. We have a real funny rapport. I always enjoy my conversations with Jay.” What do you think about Lil Wayne’s “Light Up” verse? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos Lil Wayne Goes To Jail Related Artists Lil Wayne Drake

Bill O’Reilly Is Now a Happy, Moderate Obama Lover [Friendly Fox]

The LA Times profiled Bill and found that he’s mellowing in his old age. He’s even happy that Glenn Beck has stolen his thunder as a liberal hate figure. “I’m just a human meat shield for the guy,” responds Beck. Apparently it’s one big happy family! Gone are the days of O’Reilly freakouts . “Some of the conversations are still heated,” explains Amy Sohnen, O’Reilly’s executive producer in the story, “but you may not see the vein explode anymore.” O’Reilly even says he likes Obama, though he does not think he has the experience for the job. He still checks his ratings every day, but he’s now seen, according to Beck as “the senior statesman,” of Fox News . While there is scant evidence of this on the air, he apparently feels that he has “a responsibility to be a little more cautious, be a little more circumspect when I go after somebody to make sure we have everything covered. Because I can destroy lives. And I’m not going to do that until I’m 100% convinced that the person deserves what they get.” He still denies any responsibility for ramping up hatred against abortion doctor George Tiller (you know, the hatred that got him killed) saying he “reported the story accurately.” So we must have misheard when we thought he said “…if I could get my hands on Tiller — well, you know. Can’t be vigilantes. Can’t do that. It’s just a figure of speech,” which is not, of course, suggestive in any way. The Times did not ask about falafels. Which is a shame, as we’ve always wondered if he can still enjoy the chickpea-based delights of middle-eastern cuisine in the same way since he allegedly sexually harassed a producer on his show by suggesting he rub her vagina with one. This suit was settled.
