Conviction Trailer: Could it Be Swank vs. Bening, Round 3?

Last year, we wondered whether Hilary Swank and Annette Bening were fated to have yet another Best Actress rematch at the Oscars… then Swank’s Amelia bombed and Bening’s Mother and Child wasn’t even released in 2009 (instead, it made a negligible ripple earlier this year). Maybe we were just a little premature, since Bening’s got The Kids Are All Right coming very soon and Swank has Conviction (formerly named Betty Anne Waters ). Lets dig into the new Conviction trailer and guess at her odds.

“Jihad, Crips, extreme animal-rights activists, it’s all the same,” Says Homeland Security Official

Last week a Philadelphia appellate court announced (after months of silence) that it would not revisit the conviction of animal rights activists on terrorism charges. The SHAC 7 were convicted of conspiring to commit animal enterprise terrorism by running a controversial website that posted news of both legal and illegal actions, along with personal information of people connected to the notorious animal testing lab Huntingdon Life Sciences. Their campaign had brought the multinational corporation near bankruptcy. A three-judge panel of the court had previously upheld the conviction, and the defendants had asked that the full court review it. Now, the only option is to request that the Supreme Court of the United States review the case. There has been no official word about this yet, but multiple defendants have expressed their interest and having this landmark First Amendment case heard by the Supreme Court. Meanwhile, the lead prosecutor who helped secure this “victory in the War on Terrorism” has– surprise, surprise– been promoted. Charles McKenna is now the head of the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness. He was quoted a few days ago about his hopes for using new “anti-terrorism technology” in his new job. “We are particularly interested in computer profiling, which is much more sophisticated, and quicker, than traditional racial profiling,” he said. The targets of this new profiling technology? “Jihad, Crips, extreme animal-rights activists, it’s all the same: people trying damage the system,” added McKenna.“We need every trick in the book to avert disaster.” As you can see in this photo, the SHAC 7 are quite gangsta. But no reasonable person could argue that they are the “same” as violent street gangs and Islamic terrorists. Such absurd scare-mongering rhetoric has become normal for corporations, industry groups, and the politicians who represent them. When it is adopted by government officials who are in charge of keeping us safe, though, it has frightening implications. There are limited anti-terrorism and law enforcement resources. When people like McKenna let shameless political opportunism shape security priorities (and make no mistake, this is nothing but political opportunism–he has already been rewarded for defending the “system” from activists), it puts everyone at risk. added by: animalia_libero

T.I. Says Eminem Reached Out To Him In Prison

Tip says Em gave him ‘incredibly helpful’ words of support during tough times. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Tim Kash T.I. Photo: Sam Hendrick When T.I. first ventured out to get an Eminem verse on “Touchdown” for 2007’s T.I. vs. T.I.P., the King of the South thought the best-case scenario would be that he’d get 16 bars of fire and a hit record. The ATL native gained much more than that while working with Marshall Mathers: a friendship. “I reached out to Em,” Tip explained to MTV News. “My management reached out to his management, just in hopes of getting him on a record. Em personally reached out to me, and we been speaking ever since, especially since I went through my situation [with having to go to prison]. [He would] just kinda remind me that ‘I’ve been through dark period in my life too. You’re gonna make it. You’re one of the ones we need, so you’re gonna make it. Stand tall and walk the walk.’ He just made it a point to always reassure me of the spot that I hold in this thing that we got called hip-hop. It was incredibly helpful. It was incredibly noble of him, in my eyes, to even take the time out to reach out to me.” Tip says while he being prosecuted and sentenced for illegally attempting to purchase firearms , Eminem would call him once every two weeks. “We continue to stay in touch,” Tip said. “He wrote me since I was in the joint. We’ve spoken several time since I’ve been back home. We maintain a healthy relationship.” Just like Tip has overcome severe circumstances with his conviction, Eminem overcame a drug addiction that almost resulted in a fatal overdose. “Adversity brings strength,” T.I. said. “No matter where the adversity comes from, you become a better person if you are able to channel that strength in a positive way. If you are able to take that experience and learn from it, and you’re willing to grow from it, accept the part you’ve played in it and move forward, I think you’re a better person. That’s something that I can see he’s experienced that I’ve experienced, that we both share in common.” T.I. and Eminem have agreed to record a song for Tip’s August 17 LP King Uncaged. Morning Hangover — April Is Catch-Up Month

I cannot wait to play Splinter Cell: Conviction , but there aren’t the string of must-have games being released in April as we’ve seen in the first few months of 2010. Next month, of course, that changes again, with games like Alan Wake finally arriving on store shelves. I’m thinking about catching up on some downloadable content in Mass Effect 2 and Assassin’s Creed II and taking care of some unfinished business: beating Mega Man 9 . Mega Man 10 is calling me! Have something to share? Sitting on a news tip? E-mail me . You can also follow me on Twitter . Tom clancy’s splinter cell conviction – Games – Video Games – Microsoft – Twitter
