Ryan Murphy Reveals Tribute to Cory Monteith, Plans For Glee Character

Speaking out about the death of Cory Monteith , Glee creator Ryan Murphy has revealed how the show will handle the loss of one of its biggest stars. Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter that he and the rest of the cast are still grieving: “It’s always sad and shocking when somebody so young dies.” “One of the things that made it even more upsetting is that so many of us who knew and loved him were actively involved in trying to get him better.” “When you’re faced with something so sad and so shocking, what do you do? Do we cancel the show? Do we start shooting in January? What do we do?” “The right thing to do for the show, at this point, is to have that character pass,” Murphy says of his plans for the premiere, which was pushed back a week . “Ultimately, we decided the best thing for everyone is to get back to work and be around people who knew him and loved him so that everyone can grieve together.” “When we do a tribute episode to [his] character, we’ll do it in a way where the cast will not have to re-create feelings of grief they’ve had this week, but do it in an upbeat way.” Murphy says the role of Finn Hudson, McKinley High’s football star-turned-glee clubber, will not be re-cast, and the season’s third episode will be a tribute. Murphy said he told Cory Monteith’s costar and real-life girlfriend, Lea Michele , that he would understand if she didn’t want to return to Glee this fall. She said that was not an option, however, and will be back. Glee returns Thursday, October 26.

Cory Monteith Cause of Death: Heroin and Alcohol Overdose

An autopsy conducted by medical examiners in Canada shows that Cory Monteith died from a lethal combination of heroin and alcohol, reports say. Cory Monteith Cause of Death Explained The British Columbia Coroners Service says an autopsy and toxicological analysis show a ” mixed drug toxicity , involving heroin and alcohol” took his life. The 31-year-old Glee star’s body was discovered by staff members at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in Vancouver, B.C., in the early hours of July 13. Cory Monteith’s death was an absolute shock, but the cause of death is tragically not, given the circumstances, and his ongoing struggle with addiction. Cory Monteith: A Pro at Work, A Problem in Canada

It’s no secret that Cory Monteith struggled with substance abuse. He talked to Parade Magazine last year about fearing he would die at the age of 19 and he entered rehab in April . However, sources confirm to TMZ that while the actor may have been dealing with issues in his personal life… they never affected him on the Glee set. The cast of the hit Fox show – most notably girlfriend Lea Michele – were aware of Monteith’s demons and went out of their way to ensure he was clean and sober. The star never appeared under any kind of influence during his years affiliated with the show, an insider says. But it was a different story in Monteith’s native Canada. Friends in Vancouver reportedly fueled Cory’s addiction, partying with the actor and often bringing drugs and alcohol along wherever they went. The negative influence/pull of those home friends allegedly grew stronger in recent weeks, with family members reaching out to Monteith and urging him to come back to California. But Cory simply retreated even further and, tragically, died in a Vancouver hotel room last Saturday. Staff members confirm he had spent the evening with acquainances in the area.

Cory Monteith Death: What Will Glee Do?

Following the tragic death of Cory Monteith , it may not be important in the grand scheme of things – but it’s something Fox will need to consider: How will Glee Season 5 handle the passing of a central cast member? It’s not unprecedented for programs to deal with the loss of an actor or actress. The West Wing gave John Spencer’s Leo a heart attack. Just last year, Dallas wrote in a funeral for J.R. Ewing after Larry Hagman died. So… in which direction will Glee go? Will it make a mere, quick mention of Finn going far away for some reason? Will it actually kill the character off? What SHOULD it do? Weigh in now with your take on how Glee should deal with Monteith’s death: Kill off Finn Write Finn out Recast the role I don’t know View Poll »
