Did You Know? Americans Get Slizzard On The Daily And Consume Just As Much Booze As Soda!?!?

What are they tryin’ to say?!?! We all know someone who likes to have a drank at the end of a long day but cotdayum…these statistics are pretty crazy. Americans get too many calories from soda. But what about alcohol? It turns out adults get almost as many empty calories from booze as from soft drinks, a government study found. Soda and other sweetened drinks — the focus of obesity-fighting public health campaigns — are the source of about 6 percent of the calories adults consume, on average. Alcoholic beverages account for about 5 percent, the new study found. “We’ve been focusing on sugar-sweetened beverages. This is something new,” said Cynthia Ogden, one of the study’s authors. She’s an epidemiologist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention which released its findings Thursday. The government researchers say the findings deserve attention because, like soda, alcohol contains few nutrients but plenty of calories. But a liquor trade association said the findings indicate there’s no big problem. “This research shows that the overwhelming majority of adults drink moderately,” Lisa Hawkins, a spokeswoman for the Distilled Spirits Council, said in a statement. The CDC study is based on interviews with more than 11,000 U.S. adults from 2007 through 2010. Participants were asked extensive questions about what they ate and drank over the previous 24 hours. The study found: –On any given day, about one-third of men and one-fifth of women consumed calories from beer, wine or liquor. –Averaged out to all adults, the average guy drinks 150 calories from alcohol each day, or the equivalent of a can of Budweiser. –The average woman drinks about 50 calories, or roughly half a glass of wine. –Men drink mostly beer. For women, there was no clear favorite among alcoholic beverages. –There was no racial or ethnic difference in average calories consumed from alcoholic beverages. But there was an age difference, with younger adults putting more of it away. For reference, a 12-ounce can of regular Coca-Cola has 140 calories, slightly less than a same-sized can of regular Bud. A 5-ounce glass of wine is around 100 calories. Here’s a thought. Maybe they should throw up the same calorie count on drinks as they do on everything else? LLS…do you think it’d make a difference? Wow!!!! Sandy Blows The Entire Facade Off Of NYC Building!!! [Photos]

And Atlantic City is underwater !!! What the hell?? Hurricane Sandy is whipping her wrath on the mid-Atlantic this evening and she’s proving to be one angry beyotch!! According to the New York Post : A four-story apartment building in Chelsea suffered a partial collapse this evening, authorities said. The building, on Eighth Avenue near West 15th Street, has the front façade completely exposed following the collapse around 6:25 p.m. One firefighter suffered minor injuries, the FDNY said. A tourist from Seattle who was staying in the building said she first noticed some pieces falling from the ceiling. “It’s an old building, it creaks and things, so initially we didn’t think anything was going on,” said Natasha Stelmaszek. She then went outside to look at the building, which has a business on the first floor, and noticed a crack. “I decided to go upstairs to the fourth floor and then down to the second to let everyone known,” Stelmaszek, 56, said. “And as a group, we just figured it was time to get out.” Isabelle Boussard, who is visiting from France with her family, said after Stelmaszek alerted them to the imminent collapse, “we quickly went in and packed our luggage and we came across the street. “Ten minutes later, we watched it fall. It was crazy. It’s a very bad trip.” City Council Speaker Christine Quinn was on-hand to survey the wreckage. Hit the flip for more…

SMH… Conservative Pundit Says Obama Will Get His Votes From People On Welfare And Voter Fraud In “Urban” Areas

Sounds racist if you ask us. Is he sayin’ a black man can’t win an election without using “hood” tactics? This guy can’t be serious trying to make it seem like Obama is only getting love from folks on welfare ? We call bullisht. Conservative pundit Gary Bauer, the former president of the Family Research Council, which puts on the Values Voter Summit each year, told the crowd at the 2012 conference Friday that it needs to turn out in great numbers to defeat President Obama’s army of welfare recipients and fraudulent votes. After his speech, Bauer told TPM “voter fraud is rampant in urban areas” and he expected that to help Obama. Bauer also told TPM that “there are a lot of people who will vote this November because they depend on government largesse,” meaning checks from Washington. He expects those voters to go Obama as well. “They will vote for their own perceived interests, which is they don’t want anybody cutting back the size of the checks,” Bauer said. On stage at VVS, he made a similar case, but said hard-working Americans will turnout in stronger numbers. “There’s a lot of people out now around America who depend on checks from their fellow taxpayers being in the mailbox every day,” Bauer said. “They will turn out in massive numbers, but so will the entrepreneurs, the small businessmen and women, the military families, the soldiers in harms way, the millions of Americans that want to hope again.” That last set of voters, Bauer said, will turn things for Romney. As for voter fraud, Bauer claimed Republicans will have to contend with lots of fake votes from the big cities. But he said those Obama votes won’t be enough either. “My prediction is after all the votes are counted — even the dead votes of Democrats in Chicago, Detroit and Cleveland — I predict that we will win, that this nightmare will be over and America will finally be on the road to recovery,” Bauer said. Bauer was focused on the types of votes he said Democrats rely on, but his talk about people who rely on “government largesse” is not far from the mainstream Republican view of the election. Mitt Romney has said several times that Obama is creating a “culture of dependency” in which more and more people become reliant on government checks. Hopefully HARD Working people know better than to vote for Robney, cuz all he’s gonna do is cut taxes on the rich to the point that they’ll wish they were getting welfare checks! Source

No Respect: Monument To Be Built Honoring The Triple K Clan Leader In The Home City Of The Civil Rights Movement!

Talk about a smack in the face! Monument Honoring Prominent White Supremacist Group Leader To Be Built Citizens in Selma, AL are furious after learning that the city is in talks to build a monument honoring the first leader of the most openly racist group in American history . For anyone who still believes we live in a “post-racial” society, the city of Selma, Ala., is planning to erect a monument honoring Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest, also known as the first Grand Wizard Of the *Klew Klucks Khlan* according to Change.org. The decision to build a monument to the founder isn’t sitting well with many local citizens. Selma community activist Malika Sanders-Fortier, who created the petition on Change.org after hearing about the monument, noted the city’s historical links to the Civil Rights Movement in a letter to the Selma City Council, which has expressed support for the plan: “People know Selma, Alabama, as the city where Dr. [Martin L.] King [Jr.] fought for civil rights,” Fortier wrote. “The Selma City Council has no business allowing that the city’s history and the memory of those who fought for civil rights to be smeared in this way.” “Nathan Bedford Forrest led his troops to kill Black soldiers who had surrendered,” said Alabama State Senator Hank Sanders in an interview with the Daily Agenda. “He killed women and children. That would be enough alone that you would not have this monument built.” Interestingly enough, this wouldn’t be the first state to offer its respects to Forrest: The state of Tennessee currently has 32 historical markers in his name and also named July 13th, Forrest’s birthday, Nathan Bedford Forrest Day. In Mississippi, Governor Haley Barbour refused demands from the NACCP to ban the issuing of vanity plates honoring Forrest. Building ANYTHING to honor a man responsible for the deliberate deaths of innocent children, among other things , is shameful, disrespectful and inhumane. Hopefully Selma city officials come to their senses and put a stop to this. SMH! Source

Kush Chronic-les: Some L.A. Medical Yahmean Dispensaries Plan On Stay Open Despite The September 6th Deadline To Close Up Shop

What about all the “patients” that need their “medicine”??? Los Angeles Medicinal Herb Shops Plan On Stay Open Despite City Ban When Los Angeles’ marijuana dispensary ban takes effect Sept. 6, there will still be plenty of pot shops open, and not just in neighboring cities like West Hollywood and Long Beach. After we called several dispensaries this week we found that many in L.A. proper were planning to stick it out, despite the council-enacted prohibition that covers all retail cannabis shops in city limits. Their rationale? -Some said that they were awaiting and even participating in court challenges that essentially question cities’ rights to ban dispensaries. -Some said they hoped an Americans for Save Access voter referendum would overturn the ban and save their stores before they had to be shut down. -Others said they were among the 182 shops that opened before a 2007 city moratorium was enacted and hope to be grandfathered in. -Yet others said they’d stay open until the city sent them a letter expressly telling them it’s time to close. (We reached out to the City Attorney’s office about just such a possible letter but had yet to hear back.) In each case, dispensaries that stay open would be walking on thin ice, as none of these appear to be ironclad legal saviors. Court challenges could take months; the voter referendum will take months. And a City Council proposal to save the pre-2007 dispensaries is being drawn up and studied, but for now the ban is the law. But despite the threat of “the man” some shop plan on thuggin’ it out until they are FORCED to shut down. A representative of a Hollywood dispensary who didn’t want his name used told the Weekly it had yet to hear from the city formally and that “we’re definitely staying open.” The operator of a San Fernando Valley shop told us it is signing on to a lawsuit against the ban. The dispensary will stay open and, he believes, is somewhat safe as a pre-2007 shop. A rep from a shop on Melrose Avenue said she believed “we should be fine” because it was a pre-2007 business. A Koreatown collective operator told us it was taking the situation “day by day.” But at the Hollyweed Dispensary, another pre-2007 shop, operators didn’t plan to take chances. Their long-fought legitimacy was on the line, manager Sunny Simms told the Weekly, and if the city expressly told it to close, it would do so: “We do plan on shutting our doors around Sept 6. We would be liable to lose our business, and we can’t risk that.” They might as well just leave these folks alone, closing these shops isn’t going to stop the kush train from rolling…see what we did there? Ho Sit Down: Conservative Crazy Lady Michele Bachmann Accuses Top Democratic Muslim Members As Being “Evil” And Hardcore Islamic Terrorists

SMH!!! Rep. Michelle Bachmann is once again making headlines for her claims that prominent Democrats are affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood. Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.) laughed off claims by Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) that he has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood and said she makes such baseless accusations because, deep down, she thinks Muslims are “evil.” Bachmann was already in hot water this week for saying Huma Abedin, a top aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, may be part of a Muslim Brotherhood conspiracy to infiltrate the U.S. government. Despite being criticized by leaders of her own party, Bachmann on Thursday said Ellison, one of two Muslims in Congress, also has connections to the hard-line Islamic group. “He has a long record of being associated with [the Council on American–Islamic Relations] and with the Muslim Brotherhood,” Bachmann said during an interview on Glenn Beck’s radio show. If she accused a fellow congressman of being associated with a terrorist organization and can offer no proof, censure isn’t enough. She should be removed from the House. It is very important the we the voters stop these “Joe McCarthy” types from exerting their power in Congress. As as nation, we can NOT experience a repeat performance of McCarthy with Muslims being the replacement for Commies. Source

Question Of The Day: Is The Man Who Killed The Child Molester Who Harmed His Child A Criminal?

Is The Man Who Killed The Child Molester Who Harmed His Child A Criminal In Shiner, Texas, there’s little doubt among residents that a 23-year-old man who reportedly killed a man he found molesting his 5-year-old daughter in a horse barn should be hailed as a hero, not denounced as a criminal. Yet some legal experts question why the father hasn’t yet been arrested and charged with murder, saying vigilante justice, no matter how the circumstances come about, can’t be tolerated in a civil society. A Texas grand jury will have to deal with those questions next week as it takes a deeper look at the circumstances of the killing, and whether the father was justified in hitting the man so hard with his fists that he died. In most jurisdictions, according to “Criminal Law,” a widely used textbook, the use of fists in defense if there are no other weapons present is automatically an example of reasonable force. But in this case, were emotions an extenuating circumstance that caused the angry dad to go too far? More broadly, when is a person in a defensive fight required to stop? “Assuming it’s true that this guy was molesting the daughter … he would then have the right to defend her and hit him enough to have him stop,” James Harrington, director of the Texas Civil Rights Project, told Foxnews.com. “But you cannot summarily execute him, even though I can understand the anger he would have.” He added: “The question is: When does it move beyond self-defense?” The killing happened last Saturday, according to Lacava County Sheriff Micah Harmon, after the man’s daughter had gone to a barn to feed the family’s chickens, and then began screaming. When the father ran to investigate, he found a man described as a family acquaintance, a horse groomer, sexually abusing the girl. Police have not released any names, in part to protect the girl’s identity, and, in the case of the man who was killed, because they have not yet located his relatives in Mexico. According to the county coroner, the man died of blunt force trauma to the head and neck. Eyewitnesses arrived to see the alleged molester already on the ground, not moving. The girl was taken to a hospital, where she was treated and released for minor injuries. While police continue to investigate, they have so far found no reason to disbelieve the man’s story. The dad “had remorse,” says Sheriff Harmon. “It wasn’t his intent [to kill anybody]. He was protecting his daughter and doing what he thought he had to do to protect his daughter.” Discuss… Source

A “Lil Positivity”: Homeless Man Finds $77,000 In Texas Park And Is Allowed To Keep It

Wow! After months of investigations, the City Council of Bastrop, Texas, has decided to let a homeless man named Timothy Yost keep the $77,000 worth of cash and collectible gold coins that he found by the Colorado River earlier this year, Fox 7 News reports. “It means everything to him. He has a whole future ahead of him. He has the opportunity to make plans and have a real future,” Aleta Peacock, Yost’s attorney said after the City Council’s announcement. Yost was washing his feet in the river this January when he spotted the bag full of $100 bills and Kruggerand coins (gold collector coins from South Africa worth more than $1000 each) in a Bastrop park. The homeless man had brought the cash — which was wet — to a bank to trade them in for dry bills. But the bank teller, thinking that a crime might have been committed, called 911. The loot was quickly seized and a lengthy investigation began. According to KVUE.com, Yost has been fighting to reclaim his find from the city ever since. This week, after a long period of uncertainty, Yost will finally be reunited with the money. Bastrop police, with the help of the FBI, have determined that the bag is not linked to a crime and the rightful owner has not been found. Reminiscing over the challenges he’s faced as a homeless man, including having to eat out of a garbage can, Yost told Fox 7 News that he is keen to start a new chapter in his life — complete, of course, with a few new purchases. “I’ve been walking for so long, the first thing I want is a vehicle,” he said. This is such an inspiring story!
