Patti Page, a legend in the world of music who recorded 50 albums throughout her career, died yesterday in California. She was 85 years old. Page started singing way back in 1947, becoming the first successful artist for Mercury Records. She’ll likely be remembered most for the tracks “Tennessee Waltz” and “(How Much Is That) Doggie in the Window.” The artist achieved 19 gold singles and 14 platinum singles over the course of an impressive career, while also starring on her own TV show. In 1979, Page was earned the Pioneer Award by the Academy of Country Music and she inducted into the Grammy Awards Hall of Fame nine years later. The singer is survived by her son, Daniel O’Curran, daughter, Kathleen Ginn and sister, Peggy Layton. We send them our thoughts and prayers.

No need to threaten to deport Piers Morgan over his anti-gun views, America. If things don’t change before long, the CNN anchor will be happy to see himself out. The UK native has been on a rampage of his own since Adam Lanza killed 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. His anti-gun rhetoric has gotten almost vitriolic more than once, and 90,000 people signed a petition to deport Morgan for his anti-2nd Amendment views. The 1st Amendment clearly protects his right to criticize the 2nd, of course, so he’s not going anywhere (not that all Brits necessarily want him back). In a new column for The Daily Mail, Morgan argued against those who have said the Sandy Hook tragedy calls for more armed guards in schools, and more guns. “Everyone must be armed. To me, this is a warped, twisted logic that bears no statistical analysis and makes no sense. Do you fight drug addiction with more cocaine?” “Alcoholism with more Jack Daniel’s? Of course not.” Morgan, 47, said he understands citizens should be allowed to own guns to hunt or for self-defense, but says doubling down on them is the opposite of smart. Conversely, he said the U.S. needs to put stricter gun laws into effect as Britain did after a similar massacre at Dunblane Primary School in Scotland in 1996: “The ‘more guns, less crime’ argument is utter nonsense. Britain, after Dunblane, introduced some of the toughest gun laws in Europe, and we average just 35 gun murders a year.” The U.S.? More than 300 times that, with a population five times larger. Added Morgan: “If you don’t change your gun laws to at least try to stop this relentless tidal wave of murderous carnage, then you don’t have to worry about deporting.” “Although I love the country as a second home and one that has treated me incredibly well, I would, as a concerned parent first – and latterly, of a one-year-old daughter who may attend an American elementary school like Sandy Hook in three years’ time – seriously consider deporting myself.” What do you think? Trayvon Martin’s Mother Says She Wants Justic For Her Son In 2013 With all of the other unfortunate tragedies that occurred this year, some may have forgotten about the 17-year-old unarmed boy who lost his life onthe the way home from the store at the hands of self-appointed neighborhood watch man dog George Zimmerman who gunned down the teenager following a brief altercation. But Trayvon Martin’s mother Sybrina Fulton is still living the nightmare of losing a child….and still seeking justice for her slain son. She recently reached out to Essence magazine to share her grief, her joy and her tireless pursuit of justice. via Essence This year has been bittersweet. The bitter part is that I lost my baby boy. The sweet part has been the show of support that we have received from our community and from the world. We are thankful. Trayvon would have turned 18 this coming February and would have been graduating from high school. He had just turned 17 a few days before he was killed. I remember how much he was looking forward to senior picture day. I won’t ever get a chance see those moments; to see his high school graduation picture, his prom pictures, his wedding pictures. I won’t get that experience. It’s still difficult to swallow because Trayvon had his whole life ahead of him. Seventeen years just seems so short to me, but I do thank God for the time that he did give me with him. I want justice in 2013. The trial begins in June and we want Trayvon’s murderer held accountable for what he did. This was a murder. This was not a case of Stand Your Ground or self-defense. One of the things Tracy [Trayvon’s father] and I have done is take a negative and make it positive. We want to try and engage the political process with the Change for Trayvon campaign to encourage people around the country to get involved and vote to help revise these Stand Your Ground laws. Nouel Alba Arrested For Newtown Shooting Money Scam Via Huffington Post : A New York City woman has been arrested by federal authorities who say she tried to scam donors by posing as a relative of one of the children killed at a Connecticut elementary school. Thirty-seven-year-old Nouel Alba was arrested Thursday and charged with lying to FBI agents. Federal prosecutors say she used her Facebook account, telephone calls and text messages to seek donations for what she called a “funeral fund.” Authorities say Alba denied seeking the donations when she was contacted by FBI agents investigating charity scams related to the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. A gunman killed 20 children and six adults there on Dec. 14. Alba, of the Bronx, appeared Thursday in federal court in Hartford and was released on $50,000 bond. A number listed for her was not in service. According to the Daily Mail , Matt says he lost hope that the movie would even have some damn impact in Washington: ‘We’re at a point where politicians don’t really get any benefit from engaging with long-term issues,’ he said, according to Politico. ‘Instead, it’s all about the next election cycle. Those guys in the House don’t do anything now but run for office. So unless they can find some little thing that zips them up a couple of points in the polls, they’re not interested.’ Damon’s soured attitude toward the American political system has been a couple years in the making. He made headlines last year when he famously criticized Obama’s first term, even though Damon is a Democrat and supported Obama in 2008. ‘I’ve talked to a lot of people who worked for Obama at the grassroots level. One of them said to me, “Never again. I will never be fooled again by a politician,”‘ Damon said in 2011. ‘You know, a one-term president with some balls who actually got stuff done would have been, in the long run of the country, much better.’ But Damon told Playboy that he voted for Obama in November, despite his criticisms of the president. ‘I assume there will be some Supreme Court appointments in this next term; that alone was reason to vote for him,’ he said.
