According to my sources, the 50th annual Academy of Country Music Awards were held last night, and I’m sure you’re all just as bummed as I am to have missed it… Guess I must have forgotten to set my DVR. But luckily, I’m here to recap the highlights for you, because it turns out Miranda Lambert put on one hell of a leg and cleavage show. Country music superstar Tim McGraw will headline July concert to benefit Sandy Hook Promise, a group that seeks to protect children from gun violence. Surprisingly, or perhaps not, this announcement resulted in serious backlash from gun advocates calling McGraw a hypocrite and a whole lot worse. Among the critics was fellow country music star Travis Tritt, who tweeted his disdain for McGraw’s concert, and he was far from alone in that sentiment. The blog Bearing Arms, for its part, reported the story with the headline “Tim McGraw Poised to Dixie Chick Himself With Gun Control Benefit Concert.” McGraw “seems poised to make a similar, potentially career-ending move,” the blog argued, referencing the Dixie Chicks’ Iraq War controversy of 2003. Lead singer Natalie Maines unabashedly slammed President George W. Bush over that military initiative, and the group’s popularity slowly declined. Coincidence? Natural progression of a pop country girl group peaking around then anyway? Perhaps, but many have linked McGraw’s and Maines’ comments. Meanwhile, McGraw responded that he supports gun ownership, but added, “I also believe that with gun ownership comes the responsibility of education and safety.” Most certainly, the 47-year-old husband of Faith Hill said, “when it relates to what we value most, our children … I can’t imagine anyone who disagrees with that.” In his announcement, McGraw said, “Out of this tragedy a group was formed that made a promise to honor the lives lost and turn it into a moment of transformation.” “Sandy Hook Promise teaches that we can do something to protect our children from gun violence. Writing on his Facebook page, Currington said he would donate to a local organization, but “I’ve never been one to take on controversial issues – I’m a singer.” The Sandy Hook Promise group formed to honor the 20 children and six staff members gunned down in an elementary school in December 2012. Adam Lanza , 20 entered the Newtown, Conn., school and went on a rampage. He also killed his mother prior to the attack and committed suicide afterward. The incident is the deadliest school shooting in the U.S., yet little or no action was taken on the federal government level amid pressure from gun advocates. In addition to a bizarre incident in which Justin tossed an Argentine flag off stage , he was also accused of sending his bodyguards to beat up a photographer. Bieber was summoned to Argentina to answer for his crimes last year, but he ignored the request, because who wouldn’t? Now, one Buenos Aires judge is pissed, and he’s sent the word out that the Biebs is to be tossed in prison if he ever dares to set foot in South America’s second-largest country. TMZ is reporting that a court order has been issued stating that the judge in Bieber’s case considers it “pertinent to order the immediate detention of the accused.” “The accused” in this case, of course, is Justin. The order sounds harsh, but if you’re wondering what sort of authority Argentine police have to pursue Bieber outside of their country, the answer is absolutely none. In other words, Justin is completely safe as long as he doesn’t go back to Argentina. As expected, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul announced this morning that he will seek the Republican nomination for President of the United States in 2016. “I am running for president to return our country to the principles of liberty and limited government,” Paul, 52, wrote on his official campaign website. Running to “restore liberty and prosperity for ourselves and for future generations,” he is scheduled to declare his candidacy at a rally in Louisville, Kentucky. Before entering the world of politics with a Senate victory in 2010, Rand Paul owned his own ophthalmology practice and performed eye surgery for 18 years. He is the first U.S. Senate member to serve while a parent – his father, three-time presidential candidate Ron Paul – served in the House of Representatives. The younger Paul has served on the Health Education, Labor and Pensions, Homeland Security and Government Affairs and Small Business Committees. He also formed the Senate Tea Party Caucus and has been one of the higher-profile members of the GOP since arriving in D.C. a little over four years ago. Rand’s announcement comes on the heels of Texas Senator Ted Cruz’s presidential bid , announced on behalf of the Republican Party last month. Former Florida governor Jeb Bush and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who are leading early public opinion polls, are also expected to get in the race. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio is expected to announce his bid on April 13, while New Jersey Gov. LeAnn Rimes gets accused of doing a lot of strange, sketchy things, but most of them have to do with her ongoing efforts to catch Eddie Cibrian cheating . We can’t really blame her for that, because Eddie is almost certainly sleeping around . So the snooping makes perfect sense, but LeAnn’s latest shady antics are a little bit harder to understand. It seems Mrs. Rimes-Cibrian has taken to writing little motivational sayings on chalkboards, then posting the photos on Instagram. Yeah, the girl’s got a lot of time on her hands, but there’s nothing inherently wrong with that. The problem is that some of the sayings – which LeAnn has allegedly passed off as her own – appear to have been lifted from the Twitter account of a woman named Rachel Wolchin. Wolchin is an LA-area writer and photographer, and apparently LeAnn figured she’s non-famous enough that her tweets could be stolen without anyone noticing. Unfortunately, LeAnn has a ton of online haters, several of whom have called her out for stealing from Wolchin without giving her credit. Is it a big deal? Not really. As far as we know, you can’t copyright a tweet. We doubt LeAnn will even acknowledge this mini-scandal public, but we’re sure those who already don’t like her will add it to their already-lengthy list of reasons why she can’t be trusted. A handful of radio stations around the country have yanked the Little Big Town single “Girl Crush” because listeners have complained about its content. The track tells the tale of a woman who is jealous of her ex-boyfriend’s new paramour. Little Big Town – “Girl Crush” According to Alana Lynn, radio host at the Boise station 104.3 FM, she received a number of calls and emails accusing her of “promoting the gay agenda” after playing the song, whose lyrics include the following: I want to taste her lips cause they taste like you/I want to drown myself in a bottle of her perfume/I want her long blond hair, I want her magic touch/Yeah cause maybe then, you’d want me just as much. Lynn said listeners have threatened to boycott the station and, as a result, she had to yank the song from her morning lineup. The Washington Post, meanwhile, reports that numerous radio stations across America have pulled the song for similar reasons.
