It’s safe to say Castle did not ring in the new year with one of its lighter episodes. Quite the opposite, in fact, as Castle Season 6 Episode 11 featured an arsonist-turned-murder, a majorly charred corpse and the seemingly real possibility that Espo would miss the birth of his child. Because he’d be dead. “Under Fire,” in fact, featured both Esposito and Ryan fighting for their lives, engulfed by flames in the basement of warehouse. A secret , sub -basement, that is. How did they get out? We’ll never tell. Watch Castle online now for the reveal:

Joan Rivers : It is so cold here in New York, this morning while my dog was licking himself, his tongue froze to his crotch. After yesterday’s ridiculously hot bikini pictures , here’s an equally great encore from one of my new favorite models Olga Kent . I was even going to name her my new favorite Moldovan model, but then I did a little research and found out that Xenia Deli ‘s from Moldova as well. I don’t know anything else about the country, other than that it’s got a population of 3.5 million (thanks Wikipedia!). But if even half of their chicks look half as hot as Xenia and Olga, I’m moving there ASAP. I guess I’d better start packing. » view all 23 photos Photos: Fameflynet , PacificCoastNews

So… what did you do in 2013? Photographer Kent Frost attended some weddings… suffered through an ice storm in May… watched the Boston Marathon bombing … and welcomed his first child into the world. The latter event took place on November 14 and it became the centerpiece for the back half of this amazing video, which is comprised of one second of each day of last year. It’s a very cool idea for a video and it proves that a newborn takes over all aspects of one’s life. Sit back and relive Frost’s 2013 now: Photographer Videotapes One Second of Everyday for a Year
Madonna is no stranger to controversy. The iconic singer has used guns on multiple occasions over the past few months, either as performance art or as props in a concert. But now The Material Girl has pulled her 13-year old son into her scandalous world, posting an image on Instagram of Rocco and some friends posing with bottles of gin and vodka. “The party has just begun! Bring it! 2014,” Madonna wrote as a caption, leading to an eruption of criticism on Twitter. “Having under age kids pose with booze is aweful (sic),” Tweeted one critic, who described her/himself as “a big fan” of the singer. Madonna was quick to respond to the outcry, though, writing online: “No one was drinking we were just having fun! Calm down and get a sense of humor! Don’t start the year off with judgement!” For some, it appears to be too late for that. What do you think of Madonna posing her 13-year old son with a bottle of liquor? Harmless fun Totally inappropriate! View Poll »
Saturday Night Live will soon have a new Oprah Winfrey. And Michelle Obama. And Condoleezza Rice. The iconic NBC sketch comedy series has responded to its lack-of-diversity criticism by hiring Sasheer Zamata. The comedian will debut on the January 18 episode of the program, which will be hosted by Drake . Zamata trained at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York and will become SNL’s first African-American female since Maya Rudolph left five years ago. After hiring six new cast members prior to this season, none of whom were black, Lorne Michaels held auditions across the country last month for someone to fill this role. And Zamata – a graduate of the University of Virginia and someone who has appeared on Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell on FX, and Inside Amy Schumer – beat out stiff competition to land the part. We wish her the best of luck. We’ll be watching.
Troian Bellisario is featured in the new issue of Seventeen. But this isn’t a cover story that touches on fashion or sex secrets or even reveals very much at all about Pretty Little Liars Season 4 , which gets back underway tomorrow night on ABC Family. Instead, Bellisario talks openly for the first time about a very challenging and difficult past. “I started self-harming when I was a junior,” the actress says simply. “I would withhold food or withhold going out with my friends, based on how well I did that day in school.” Following her stint in rehab, Demi Lovato also admitted that she was an avid cutter during her most troublesome days. Bellisario explains that she “didn’t know what was right and what was wrong” in high school, she “created this bizarre system of checks and balances to create order in my world. But it really backfired.” The young star said she had a compulsion to be “perfect” and feared her parents would “disown” her if she ever expressed any sort of sadness or anger. “I kept a lot of it bottled up inside, and it turned into self-destructive behavior,” she tells the magazine. Last month, meanwhile, Ashley Benson actually slammed her own show’s new promotional poster because it was clearly Photoshopped and she thought that sent a bad message to fans. It’s a sentiment shared by Bellisario. “I’ve heard fans say that I’m perfect on the show and I want to tell them I’ve been through two hours of hair and makeup. Don’t hold yourself up to that!” Through all her struggles, though, Troian knows how fortunate she now is. “Whenever I get down, when I want to crawl under a rock, I just look around at them and I see how rich my life is,” she says. “You have to remember what’s most important in life. I am loved by so many people and have a wonderful job. I know I’m incredibly blessed. I am a completely lucky human being.” Bravo, Bellisario. You can watch Pretty Little Liars online right now and spend some more time with this brave actress.
There are certain terms no American wants to hear: Tila Tequila sex tape . Kate Upon clothed. Justin Bieber retiring . And to this list we can now add Polar Vortex, as areas across the Midwest and East Coast are becoming all too familiar with this frigid weather phenomenon. Polar Vortex: What Is It? A Polar Vortex is a whirlpool of freezing air and it descend upon various parts of the country today. Those in Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin are experiencing subzero temperatures and more than a foot of snow. They are being encouraged to remain inside. “It’s just a dangerous cold,” National Weather Service meteorologist Butch Dye says, referring to places such as Fargo, North Dakota, where the forecast is for 32 degrees below zero. Frostbite and hypothermia often set in quickly at 15 to 30 below zero. The weather is wreaking havoc on travel, as well, with thousands of flights canceled yesterday through Chicago, St. Louis and Indianapolis. Attractions such as the St. Louis Art Museum and St. Louis Zoo have been closed indefinitely, while the Indiana Supreme Court is closed and even southern states are bracing for record-low temperatures. There are endless snow days around the country, but let’s hope those happy kids are bundled up to the fullest extend while they sled and play around. It’s seriously dangerous out there.
There was a lot to wonder about on New Year’s Eve this week. For example: What the heck was Miley Cyrus wearing ?!? But a few folks on the other side of the country were more concerned about what they saw in the sky Wednesday night… and we aren’t talking about fireworks. Simply put, Marc McCabe and an unnamed friend videotaped the following sighting and are convinced it’s a UFO: UFOs Over Los Angeles? Moreover, ABC News says there were a “flurry of reports by civilians” of unidentified flying objects, with one individual telling the station he saw “six bright orange colored lights in a diamond or triangle shape.” He added: “It was weird.” Sounds that way! Study the above footage now and decide: UFO? Or UF… NO!
