Sure, Ellen Page came out as gay recently and has since heroically defended LGBT rights and helped make the world a safer, more comfortable place for young men and women who are questioning their sexuality, but clearly her biggest of late is taking her top off for Flare magazine! We kid. But seriously, Ellen clearly hit the gym hard for her role in X-Men Days of Future Past . She talks to Flare about reprising her role as Kitty Pryde in the highly anticipated summer film, but more importantly Ellen opens up about the challenges she faces as a gay woman working in Hollywood: “You hear things like, ‘People shouldn’t know about your life because you’re creating an illusion on-screen,” Ellen says. “But I don’t see other actresses going to great lengths to hide their heterosexuality. That’s an unfair double standard.” On struggling with her decision to come out, Ellen says, “I felt scared about people knowing. I felt awkward around gay people; I felt awkward about not being myself.” Since coming out, Ellen has eagerly embraced her role as a gay rights icon. Earlier this year Ellen’s response to anti-gay criticism on Twitter won her legions of new fans.
