This kid just can’t get right… Chief Keef Arrested Shortly After Leaving Court For Speeding Charge Via Chicago-Tribune Rapper Keith Cozart, better known as Chief Keef, was arrested blocks from the Skokie Courthouse only minutes after he pleaded guilty to speeding 110 mph on the Edens Expressway last month. Cozart was blocks from the courthouse when he was arrested by Chicago police officers, officials said. Leah Starkman, Cozart’s lawyer, said he was arrested after his court hearing on a misdemeanor trespassing charge. Starkman didn’t know the details of the arrest, but said he was in custody at the Grand Crossing District station, 7040 S. Cottage Grove Ave., on Chicago’s South Side. She said she believes police were waiting from him to leave the Skokie courthouse. “He’s still being processed,” she said. “I haven’t seen the paperwork.” The 17-year-old rapper who has been arrested several times recently had pleaded guilty this morning to speeding and was later scolded by the judge who ordered him not to drive. “You think you’re invincible, and you’re certainly not,” said Cook County Circuit Court Judge Earl Hoffenberg. “Violate (conditions of the plea agreement) and you’ll find out you’re not. … I sure hope I don’t see you again, because if I do you better be ready to go to jail.” Welp…hopefully Keef is prepared. Under sentencing guidelines for the Class A misdemeanor, Cozart could have been sentenced to a year in prison and fined up to $2,500. But the judge fined him $531, put him on probation for 18 months, ordered him perform 60 hours community service, and undergo random drug testing. He must also complete eight hours of traffic school. Dressed in a black T-shirt, plaid shorts, sneakers, and wearing a gold chain, Cozart made no comment in court. “If I were you, I wouldn’t take this deal if you can’t follow these conditions,” Hoffenberg said. “I’m really not sympathetic to people who don’t listen to me,” the judge added. Another mom needs her a** beat. Mom Offers Son On Craigslist According to The Huffington Post A Texas mother was arrested for allegedly attempting to put her 3-year-old son up for adoption on Craigslist. Stephanie Redus, 29, told authorities that she placed the ad because she struggles with depression and anxiety, CBS Houston reports. She is currently pregnant. The ad stated: “Hi, I’m trying to adopt out my three-year-old son. I’m not in a good place in my life and don’t feel like I can care for him properly, but I don’t know where to start. If you or know anyone who is interested in caring for him please let me know. I’m a single mom and can’t do this. Thanks, Desperate.” The posting, published May 1, has since been removed by Craigslist administrators, NBC News reports. Houston Police Officer D. Thomas questioned Redus on May 9 after locating her through the Craigslist ad. “The defendant stated that she did make the post but never intended to give … [the] child up for adoption,” Thomas stated in the complaint, according to the Houston Chronicle. “The defendant responded that she is pregnant and has not been able to take her medication to combat her depression and anxiety.” Four days later, Redus told authorities that “the posting was to help her with her anxiety.” A neighbor who lives near Redus in Huffman appeared surprised, saying that he thought the boy seemed well cared for. “You’d see him out here playing,” John Kirby told KTRK. “The little boy he goes around riding a little electric police car he’s got.” The children are now with Child Protective Services. Redus is charged with advertising for placement of a child. She is scheduled to appear in court May 21. How do you try to give your child away on Craigslist?

O.J.’s Lawyer Says He Told Him To Call The Cops According to Raw Story The lawyer accused of bungling O.J. Simpson’s defense in his armed robbery trial said Friday he told the former American football star to contact police rather than embark on an ill-fated attempt to recover personal memorabilia himself. Simpson is appealing against his 2008 conviction and imprisonment at a trial in Las Vegas on the grounds that his attorney at the time, Yale Galanter, mishandled his defense. The 65-year-old, who was infamously acquitted of the 1994 murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman, was sentenced to between nine and 33 years following his 2007 bid to recover a horde of mementos. Simpson alleges Galanter knew of his intention to recover personal items — that he was ultimately convicted of trying to steal at gunpoint — from two memorabilia dealers at the Palace Station hotel. He also claims that Galanter did not tell him about a plea bargain offer that might have resulted in a substantially shorter period behind bars. However, Galanter on Friday refuted suggestions from Simpson that he had effectively endorsed his client’s plan to try and recover property. “He told me that he finally had a lead on some personal items, some pictures and memorabilia that had been stolen from his house in California many years before,” Galanter told a hearing in Las Vegas. Asked what his reaction had been, Galanter said: “I told him to call the police.” Galanter added that the issue of guns was “never a subject.” Simpson says he only learned after the incident that guns had been involved. One of the most famous American football players of his generation during a glittering 1970s career, Simpson was the prime suspect in the 1994 brutal murders of his ex-wife and Goldman. Brown, who had divorced Simpson in 1992 citing his “abusive behavior,” was attacked so savagely she was almost decapitated. Simpson, who has always vehemently denied the killings, was acquitted after a racially charged 1995 trial in Los Angeles, in a verdict that was greeted with widespread outrage across America. He was subsequently found liable for the deaths in a 1997 civil suit and was ordered to pay damages to the victims’ families totaling $33.5 million. He has repeatedly said he will not pay the settlement. O.J. needs to find God like most inmates and call it a day. AP

Police Liberate Nigerian Baby Factory According to Raw Story Nigerian police on Wednesday said they had found six pregnant teenage girls in a raid on a house and arrested three people suspected of planning to sell their babies. It was the second so-called baby-factory uncovered in a week in the west African nation. “We acted on intelligence information and raided the house in Enugu (city) where we met six girls, under 17 and all pregnant, and freed them,” police spokesman Ebere Amaraizu in southeastern Enugu state told AFP. He said two men and a woman believed to be operating a child trafficking ring were arrested during the raid on Monday and were cooperating with police. Amaraizu said the girls had been “lured into the house with a promise of some money after” delivering a child. “Investigation will unravel the details. We have to know how they came about the pregnancy and where they came from,” he said. Monday’s raid came five days after police in nearby Imo State freed 17 pregnant girls and 11 small children from a home in the town of Umuaka. The girls, aged between 14 and 17, told police that they had been impregnated by a 23-year-old man who is currently in custody. The owner of the building is on the run. Nigerian police have uncovered a series of alleged baby factories in recent years, notably in the southeastern part of the country, but the intended buyers of the children have not been established. Human trafficking, including the selling of children, is the third most common crime in Nigeria behind fraud and drug trafficking, the United Nations cultural organization (UNESCO) has said. In May of 2011 in southeastern Abia state, police freed 32 pregnant girls who said they had been offered to sell their babies for between 25,000 and 30,000 naira ($191), depending on the sex of the baby. Another 17 pregnant girls were discovered in southern Anambra state in October 2011 under similar circumstances. Unfortunately, this type of thing happens in almost every country, even America. SMH.

Jodi Arias tried the ” I don’t remember” defense and now it looks like it will lead her to the grave. Jury Finds Jodi Arias Eligible For Death Penalty According to The NY Daily News Jurors in Jodi Arias’ trial on Wednesday found the former waitress should be eligible for the death penalty after they convicted her last week of murdering her one-time boyfriend. The decision came after a day of testimony in the “aggravation” phase of the trial, during which prosecutor Juan Martinez hoped to prove the June 2008 killing was committed in an especially cruel and heinous manner. Family members of victim Travis Alexander sobbed in the front row as Martinez took the jury through the killing one more time. He described how blood gushed from Alexander’s chest, hands and throat as the motivational speaker and businessman stood at the sink in his master bathroom and looked into the mirror with Arias behind him. “The last thing he saw before he lapsed into unconsciousness … was that blade coming to his throat,” Martinez said. “And the last thing he felt before he left this earth was pain.” The trial now moves into the final phase, in which prosecutors will call Alexander’s family and other witnesses in an effort to convince the panel Arias should face the ultimate punishment. Arias’ attorneys also will call witnesses, likely members of her family, in an attempt to gain sympathy from jurors so they give her life in prison. The aggravation phase played out in quick fashion, with only one prosecution witness and none for the defense. The most dramatic moments occurred when Martinez displayed photos of the bloody crime scene for the jury and paused in silence for two minutes to describe how long he said it took for Alexander to die at Arias’ hands on June 4, 2008. The defense didn’t have much of a case given how many times Alexander was stabbed, the defensive wounds on his hands, the length of the attack, and the sheer amount of blood found at the scene. Defense lawyers said Alexander would have had so much adrenaline rushing through his body that he might not have felt much pain. The only witness was the medical examiner who performed the autopsy and explained to jurors how Alexander did not die calmly and fought for his life as evidenced by the numerous defensive wounds on his body. It’s up to the jury to recommend a sentence. Prosecutors said Arias planned the killing in a jealous rage, as Alexander wanted to end their affair and planned to take a trip to Mexico with another woman. All 12 jurors — eight men and four women — unanimously agreed the killing was premeditated. If she gets life she will have to live with her crime everyday until her death. When The Checks Stop Coming In: Damon Dash Struggling To Keep Roof Over His Head, Facing Eviction With Millions Owed In Taxes And Lawsuits

Via NYDailyNews reports : Hip-hop mogul Damon Dash is so deeply in debt that he claims in court documents he faces imminent eviction from a rented mansion in suburban Carmel, N.Y. “I am currently several months behind in paying my personal bills,” he wrote Tuesday in the 5-page filing. “For instance, I am currently over $100,000 behind in rent for the only home in which I live and at risk of being evicted.” Dash lost a pair of multimillion-dollar Tribeca lofts to foreclosure in 2010, with $7.3 million left on the massive mortgages. An acrimonious 2004 split with his old pal initially netted Dash a $20 million windfall — but eventually left the 42-year-old facing hard financial times. Failed business deals, huge tax debts and repeated legal battles quickly left his deep pockets almost empty. Court records show Dash lost a slew of lawsuits filed by landlords, fashion designer Charlotte Ronson and a celebrity bodyguard firm. And pass-the-buck Dash claimed one business, dubbed “Fresh to Death,” was submarined by a “poor business decision made by my partners.” It was unclear what the business, named for a trademark Dash quote, actually did. In addition to his foreclosed homes, his leased SUV was seized in 2008 after he missed his $714.99 monthly payment. According to his court filing, Dash faces possible criminal prosecution for non-payment of taxes in New Jersey. Documents indicate Dash also owes more than $2 million in taxes to New York state, and he conceded owing federal income taxes. Yet a September 2011 article portrayed Dash as still living large, describing his Carmel home as equipped with a full music studio, a pool, hardwood floors and a spectacular view. In a sworn statement asking a judge not to garnish his wages, Dash disclosed: – He pays $24,000 every three months to his ex-wife, fashion designer Rachel Roy, for child support of their two kids, and to cover money owed on the lofts. – New York state forces Dash to send another $4,341.10 per month for support of his son, Christian. – He paid nearly $20,000 in garnished wages in late 2012 for other debts. – And he faces a pending $40,000 tax payment for business earnings. The drumbeat of debt has “made it not only nearly impossible for me to maintain my businesses, they have caused me to fall far behind on my personal expenses,” Dash wrote. He was in Manhattan Supreme Court on Thursday to fight a charge of ignoring a 2008 lawsuit from a garment industry lender seeking payback for a $237,078 loan. While Dash declined to discuss his finances, he flashed cell phone shots of art galleries he owns in Charleston, S.C., and Hong Kong. “I’m an independent businessman and this is what comes from business,” Dash said in an email from his attorney, Gregg A. Pinto. “I have the guts to fight my battles on my own and it’s entertainment to everybody else because I’m so cool about it.” SMH. Problem is Ro says Kim was a menace to work with and often refused to come to project meetings unless she was being paid extra for her time — making it difficult to get anything off the ground. Not only that, he says when a project was finally executed — like her perfume — Kim refused to promote the product and then stopped taking their phone calls. After Kim cut contact, Ro says she fired off a cease and desist letter regarding future projects too … and then filed a lawsuit claiming IRS tricked her into a bad licensing deal. Woman Adopted By Man For His Rent Control Apartment According to NY Post What does it take to get a rent-controlled apartment in New York City? For the 62-year-old sister of the mayor of Salt Lake City, it was a death-bed adoption by a senile 85-year-old man in order to claim rights to his Queens apartment and its $100-a-month rent. Although Pamela Becker grew up in a privileged family — her actual father, the late Ralph Becker, was US ambassador to Honduras during the Ford administration — she has chosen a low-rent lifestyle in Long Island City. And she took a curious route to get there. Married at the Waldorf-Astoria in 1976 and later divorced, Becker came to Long Island City in the 1990s. A cat-sitting gig brought her to a six-unit apartment building on 47th Road. There, she met Nicholas “Uncle Nicky” DeTommaso, a retired dock worker and generous man who liked to keep his door open and cook for his neighbors. DeTommaso was married for just six weeks in 1950 and had lived in the 47th Road building his whole life. Friends described him as a gregarious “Star Trek” fan. Becker befriended him and would take him shopping. By 2002, she had moved into the two-bedroom railroad-flat apartment. “She has a way of working on you until she gets what she wants,” according to a neighbor. Becker managed to get a power of attorney for DeTommaso in 2007, meaning she could make financial and legal decisions for him. Less than a month before DeTommaso died, Becker got the big prize: a new dad with deep pockets and piddling rent. Her adoption was formalized on June 23, 2009, and she had already become the beneficiary of his life insurance and pension, records show. Becker told The Post she took good care of DeTommaso as his health flagged, but denied he was senile. The onetime yoga instructor got DeTommaso to buy her a series of cars even though he did not drive, the neighbor said. “I feel sorry for her; she doesn’t have anyone,” DeTommaso would tell his friends. Becker managed to get a power of attorney for DeTommaso in 2007, meaning she could make financial and legal decisions for him. “Some people said I should marry him. I didn’t want to marry him — that’s gross. I don’t do stuff like that,” Becker said from the flat where she lives with two dogs and a cat. When DeTommaso died, the building’s owners thought the unit would be available and they could charge market-rate rent of $1,500 a month. They were shocked to learn Becker had been adopted by her elderly roommate and claimed she would “remain in this apartment for as long as I live.” She even changed her name to Maria DeTommaso. Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker Jr. said through a spokesman that his sister has “some challenges” and had been estranged from the family for “quite some time.” He said he was unaware of her adoption. But the “family ties” may have broken for Becker. Another teen mom puts her baby in the garbage. Teen Dumps Baby In The Trash According to ABC 6 Lancaster police said they have arrested a McCaskey East High School student who gave birth in a school restroom and then left the baby in a trash can. Cherlie LaFleur, 19, was arraigned Wednesday night on a misdemeanor count of concealing the death of a child. She was then committed to Lancaster County Prison on $1 million bail. Police said LaFleur, of the 300 block of North Marshall Street, gave birth to the male infant in the restroom Tuesday and then tried to flush the baby down a toilet. When that didn’t work, police said LaFleur put the baby in the trash can, where the dead infant was discovered by a school custodian Tuesday night. Officials said an autopsy conducted Wednesday indicated that the infant had been carried for 27-29 weeks. They added that the investigation is still in its preliminary stages, and it has not yet been determined whether the baby was born alive or stillborn. The crime of concealing the death of a child can occur under either circumstance. Parents reacted with shock. “It’s just a shame,” high school parent Angnette Swinton said. “I’ve heard of my fair share of bad things but nothing like this,” junior varsity baseball coach Ervin Lopez said. The School District of Lancaster said Thursday that it has safe rooms established at both high schools. Staff members or students directly affected by the situation are encouraged to meet with counselors in these rooms, officials said.
