Jiroemon Kimura is the world’s oldest man … ever. He was born in 1897! The 115-year-old recently became the oldest living human after the death of Dina Manfredini . Now he’s also officially the oldest man who has ever lived. Jiroemon Kimura, World’s Oldest Man Ever The former postal employee has 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. He lives with his son’s family near Kyoto, Japan. The previous holder of the title of oldest man ever was Christian Mortensen, a Danish-American, who lived 115 years and 252 days before dying in 1998. Yasushi Nakayama, the mayor of Kyotango, where Kimura lives, recognized his status as the world’s current oldest person, calling him “the pride of our town.” Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday traveled to Kimura’s hometown to hand deliver a copy of the Guinness World Records 2013. Glenday said it was an honour to meet Kimura, whom he called “an exceptional person” and only the third man in the history of the world to reach 115. Will he be the first ever to hit 116? The first “alien Earth” planet is likely to be spotted next year, according to astronomers. An epic discovery that would cause humanity to reassess its place in the universe, the feat is believed to be possible, even likely, by scientists in 2013. Researchers have honed in on a number of exoplanets in recent years that share key traits with our own world, such as size or inferred surface temperature. They have yet to bag a bona fide “alien Earth.” But just wait, scientists say. “I’m very positive that the first Earth twin will be discovered next year,” said Abel Mendez of the Planetary Habitability Laboratory at the University of Puerto Rico. Astronomers discovered the first exoplanet orbiting a sunlike star in 1995. Since they, they’ve spotted more than 800 worlds beyond our own solar system, and many more candidates await confirmation by follow-up observations. NASA’s prolific Kepler Space Telescope, for example, has flagged more than 2,300 potential planets in under three years since its March 2009 launch. Only 100 or so of those 2,300 have been confirmed to date, but mission scientists estimate that at least 80 percent will end up being the real deal. Over time, new instruments came online and planet hunters honed their techniques, enabling the discovery of smaller, more distantly orbiting planets. In other words, like this one. A planet must be within its star’s habitable zone – that just-right “Goldilocks” range of distances where liquid water, and perhaps life as we know it, can exist. None of the worlds found yet are true Earth twins. The handful of Earth-size planets spotted to date all orbit too close to their stars to be suitable for life. But it’s only a matter of time before a small, rocky planet is spotted in the habitable zone, and researchers think that time is nigh, based on several factors. Mario Lopez and Courtney Mazza have made it official. They got married Saturday in Mexico! Lopez and his fiance have been together since early 2008 and have a two-year-old daughter. They exchanged vows just before sunset at the Mexican seaside estate of Girls Gone Wild creator Joe Francis, which hopefully isn’t a harbinger of trouble to come. Not surprisingly, Mario’s celebrity news employer Extra was first to report the news. Lopez says he’s hoping he and Courtney Mazza will soon expand their family. “We’re working on that,” The X Factor host admitted. “Right after the wedding.” “We’ll wait for the guests to leave and then we’re getting right on that!” Guess we’ll see in late August or early September if they succeeded. Allyn Rose, a 24-year-old Maryland native set to compete for the Miss America title next year, is planning to undergo a precautionary double mastectomy. Rose explained that she made the hard decision to have both breasts removed at such a young age because of a genetic mutation in her family’s DNA. Saying that this predisposes females in her family to get breast cancer early in their lives, Allyn decided she would take a preventative measure. “The idea that I could wake up one day and not have the same body that I did the day before is very scary,” the blond bombshell told People. “But my mom was diagnosed at 27. That’s three years away from me. I’m not going to let my fear of losing this part of my femininity stop me from living.” Rose posted last week to her Tumblr page a BRCA analysis she had done which detects harmful mutations in genes that produce hereditary cancer. Luckily, the test came back negative. However, having lost her mom to the disease when she was just 16, Rose is very cognizant that she could get breast cancer at any time. “It’s a very strange change in our genetic code. Almost all of the women in my family have passed away from it,” she lamented. So the model and part-time paralegal said she’s opting for what some call an extreme preventive measure to give herself a better chance of a long life. Miss America is set to air live on ABC on January 12. Rose said that if she wins, she’ll wait to have the procedure followed by reconstructive surgery once her year-long reign is up in January 2014.
