Kim Kardashian Upset Over Turkish Cosmo Cover, Offends Fellow Armenians

Read this article:

Kim Kardashian is truly taking the world by storm, and becoming a global celebrity brand, so when we hear that she is gracing the cover of this month’s Cosmopolitan Magazine in Turkey, it really is no surprise. However, unfortunately for her being of Armenian descent, this month in Turkey is also the Genocide Remembrance Day, which commemorates the victims of the 1915 Armenian genocide by the Turks, which makes her being chosen as the cover girl a little bit surprising…. and a lot controversial. The Armenian community here in America is offended by the cover, considering that Turkey have never fully acknowledged the genocide which killed millions of Armenians. According to the New York Daily News , Aram Hamparian, who is the the executive director of the Armenian National Committee of America, said that the magazine was; “Trying to turn a profit in Turkey by callously featuring a cover photo of a descendant of Armenian genocide survivors in its April issue…. Cosmopolitan should find creative ways to educate its readers about the Turkish government’s shameful effort to cover up this atrocity” Kim took to her blog trying to soften the controversy, by claiming that she didn’t know Turkey was planning to use her image this month. She wrote; “Cosmopolitan Magazine has a number of international editions all around the world that run in various territories, and when I did this shoot for the international covers I had no idea that Turkey was planning to run my story on their cover THIS month, considering Genocide Remembrance Day is this month… My Armenian heritage means a lot to me and I’ve been brought up to be incredibly proud of my family’s background and culture so as an Armenian-American woman it is a huge honor for me to be on the first ever Armenian Cosmopolitan cover.” Ok, I get that she is all about moving her career forward (and we all know how much she loves to be in front of the camera), but I find it really, really hard to believe that she would do a photo-shoot for any magazine, let alone one as professional and reputable as Cosmopolitan, and not know when the cover was going to run. Really, Kim? But credit where it’s due, being the first ever Armenian cover girl IS a big accomplishment, and I do have to agree with this statement; “World-over, Cosmo is known as a fun and inspiring magazine for women of all races, shapes, sizes, regardless of their political beliefs and I really hope that if I can bring awareness to the issue, then this in an accomplishment.” Well, judging by the publicity her cover has already created, she certainly has managed to do just that! Hayley Williams On Cosmo Cover: ‘Sexy Is Whatever You Want It To Be’

Paramore frontwoman says she hopes her Cosmopolitan cover will inspire fans, challenge the conventional notion of sexy. By James Montgomery Paramore’s Hayley Williams on the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine Photo: Cosmopolitan Hayley Williams can currently be seen on the cover of the May issue of Cosmopolitan magazine and, somewhat understandably, she’s excited (“really excited”) about that fact. But rather than just let the photos speak for themselves, the Paramore singer has decided to talk about them — and her decision to do the cover shoot in the first place — in a new blog post on her band’s LiveJournal page . “I wanna talk about the Cosmo cover. It’s a little more than a big deal to me,” she wrote. “To the general public, Cosmo is either a) a woman’s obsession, or b) a woman’s demise … Honestly, either of the two options equal out to be the same damn thing. It’s easy to let all the images of all these Godlike-looking women whisper to us how we think we’re supposed to look. It’s like, ‘Here, look at my boobs! Don’t you wish you had these?’ “And you know what? It’s never gonna change,” she continued. “As much as I tell myself I don’t care and I wear whatever I want, there will always be those moments when I’m at the checkout line at Target and I see some gorgeous person on the cover of any ol’ rag, and I’m like, ‘Ugh, is that how it’s gotta be?’ Only to realize that, next month, that girl on the cover is gonna be me.” Williams then goes on to explain why she agreed to do the Cosmo cover, and how it fits into not only her role within Paramore, but her new outlook on life, as well. “My #1 goal when the band began was to make myself invisible. Not only did I not want to be the focal point, I wanted to be unseen! And honestly, it never made a difference,” she wrote. “It never made people focus on me any less … so this time I’m taking a different approach. All three of us in Paramore have our own roles, and finally I will accept mine. I’m going to be okay with being a ‘powerful female.’ And if that’s what it is, I’m going to use that role to make a difference. “Here’s my course of action,” she continued. “I will be myself. I will grow up. And I most definitely will find the time in my own life to be sexy if I feel like it. Who wrote the rules? Who said that a girl that lives in this same T-shirt and jeans nearly every day won’t wanna wear pumps and a short skirt tomorrow. And I’m hoping by seeing my crazy mug on a magazine cover, some girl who’s having a not-particularly-liberated day will think to herself that the May cover looks just a little different than the usual Cosmo cover and hopefully they can even be inspired. No, I don’t think I’m some kind of saving grace … but I do know that I never thought of myself as conventionally beautiful nor sexy. … I’m hoping that the more a magazine will take a chance on a girl like me, the more a girl will have a frickin’ chance in hell to be unique, powerful, strong in her weaknesses, confident in her flaws. Because that’s who I’m trying to become.” She closed by telling her fans that “sexy is whatever you want it to be … it’s up to you,” and then backed up that assertion by poking fun at the rather unfortunate cover line (“75 Sex Moves Men Crave”) that accompanied her image. “For the record, I really was hoping one of the headlines would be ’69 Ways to 69,’ but I guess it was a no go,” she wrote. “Honestly, I don’t think they could come up with that many.” What’s your opinion about what Hayley wrote regarding her appearance on the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine? Hollyweird’s New Leading Man Banger Anthony Mackie Talks Overcoming Hollyweird Blackout & Making History With Vanity Fair!

This New Orleans-bred actor is the first Black actor to be featured in nearly a decade on the cover of Vanity Fair’s Hollywood Issue. Anthony Mackie changed the game by landing on the cover of Vanity Fair’s 17th annual “Hollywood Issue” ; and admits he realized the weight he carries by gracing the highly coveted glossy cover! Mackie opens up: “The magazine came out and it’s interesting how the conversations have changed, which is surprising to me,” “When my publicist told me they got me for the cover of Vanity Fair for the Hollywood edition I didn’t know what it meant. Looking at it now it was a monumental step in the course of my career. I want to be 70 or 80 like an Anthony Hopkins or Morgan Freeman and look back at a body of work instead of getting one or two jobs and trying to overcome the idea of just being an actor instead of being an artist. It’s been amazing. Every day I tell people that I don’t want you to overlook my race. I don’t want you to look at me as something different than what I am. When you look at me I don’t want you to like me in spite of being a Black male. I want you to include me because of who I am, that being a Black male. It’s been funny from both the Black and White perspective; from the everyday perspective and the Hollywood perspective. Everyone has an opinion so I try to put it out there and let it be what it is.” “The last Black man to be on the cover of Vanity Fair for the Hollywood edition was Omar Epps and that was over 10 years ago. I think it’s good for right now, but it definitely does not solidify in my path in Hollywood history.” Despite having starred in films like ‘Million Dollar Baby,’ ‘The Hurt Locker,’ ‘Notorious’ and ‘The Adjustment Bureau,’ Mackie, like many Black actors, has a face people know even when they can’t remember his name. “I get mistaken for one of my closest friends, Jamie Hector who was on ‘The Wire,’” he laughed. “Literally every day someone stops me and asks me for my autograph and if they can take a picture with me for being on ‘The Wire.’” Though Hollywood recognized Mackie’s value by including him in the Vanity Fair issue, the Obie Award winner does feel that the recent Black-out during this past award show season was disturbing. “It’s frustrating, but not for the reason of not having the representation. I think we’re at a point where we need to start making our own movies. I think there are enough stories out there that we should be telling those stories. I think in the early 90′s we had the opportunity to make our own movies and we got complacent. If you go back and watch ‘Love Jones’ and ‘Love and Basketball’ or ‘The Brothers,’ they were great movies and they represented us. ‘Boyz N The Hood’ and ‘Juice’ represented us. We made those movies and everybody just got lazy. It’s no reason that the people who made those movies shouldn’t still be making movies. Martin Scorsese didn’t stop after his first movie. James Cameron didn’t stop after ‘Titanic’ so why is it that the people who represent us and tell our stories just don’t exist anymore. They’re out there living in LA writing. They’re making movies; they’re just not making the movies that represent us. That’s what frustrates me because I feel like you have an entire new crop of young talent and they have not only no one to work with but they don’t have any material to work on. You can’t say we don’t have the money or the opportunities because White people are doing it. If you look at what Judd Apatow is doing, he’s shown us how to go out and take our ideas, put them on a page and make it. Ben Affleck made ‘Gone Baby Gone’ and ‘The Town’ because he couldn’t get cast as an actor. I think it’s about time that we as Black Hollywood stop talking about what people aren’t giving us and get up off our ass and start making the movies that we want to make.” With all this chit chat about making black movies, will Mackie make a move from actor to producer?! Or is he all talk?! Source
