Happy 61st Birthday, Bill Murray! What’s His Most Underrated Moment?

Though I like arguing on behalf of underrated performers ( Melanie Griffith , for example), sometimes it’s more fun to commemorate our indisputably great actors. Bill Murray is the ne plus ultra of deadpan comic delivery — salty as the Dead Sea, dry as Death Valley, and great in almost everything. He’s 61 today, which means it’s our duty to shine light upon his more underrated moments in movies. What’s your pick?

Yvonne Strahovski on Killer Elite, Her Comedy Debut With Seth Rogen and a Baby For Chuck

Over the past four years, Yvonne Strahovski has acquainted herself with television audiences as CIA agent Sarah Walker on NBC’ s fast-paced, quick-witted spy series Chuck . Now, as the beloved comedy-drama gears up for its fifth and final season, the Australian actress is making her big-budget box office debut in Gary McKendry’s action film Killer Elite which pits a retired British Special Air Service member (Jason Statham) against a violent hit squad. As Statham’s onscreen girlfriend, Strahovski gets to retain her Aussie accent, stay away from the testosterone-fueled violence and share coffee with Robert De Niro.

Indie Auteur Joe Swanberg Offers New Distribution Model: Subscription-Based Fandom

The indie filmmaking game (as in true-blue, studio-free indie filmmaking) has gotten to a point where even Francis Ford Coppola is following Kevin Smith into the great unknown of out-of-the-box distribution experimentation, but mumblecore vet Joe Swanberg ( LOL, Hannah Takes the Stairs ) has partnered with independent release label Factory 25 on yet another crazy idea: Selling four-film, one-year subscriptions to his fans for $99.95 a pop, like a film version of artisanal foodstuff and wine club models.

This Holiday Season, Will Your Kids Subject You to Singing Chipmunks or Singing Penguins?

Munk yourself! Better yet: munk your whole family, because the new trailer for Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked not only employs the phrase “Munk Yourself,” but wants to treat your darling sons and daughters to the chipmunk-equivalent of Boat Trip . If Dave Seville’s furor isn’t in your family’s budget, however, maybe you’ll want to check out Happy Feet Two , which samples Justin Timberlake’s “SexyBack” in a sultry penguin dance-off. Whatever you decide to do this holiday season, know one thing: both you and your kids are at the mercy of vulgar, singing cartoon animals.

REVIEW: Crazy, Stupid, Love. Isn’t Nearly Crazy Enough, But At Least There’s Gosling

Crazy, Stupid, Love. is, for the most part, an effective love story, but the two figures in thrall to one another aren’t the ones you think: The magnetism between the movie’s two male stars, Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling, is what really makes the movie tick. The women — and we’re talking about women like Julianne Moore, Emma Stone, Marisa Tomei and coltish relative newcomer Annaleigh Tipton — almost function as accessories, although, as wonderful as these actresses are, that still isn’t necessarily a liability. Everyone in Crazy, Stupid, Love. is served well by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa’s crisp, intelligent direction. Their instincts keep the story moving deftly; if only, right at the finish line, the movie didn’t suffer from a giant failure of nerve.
