‘Jersey Shore’ Fans In Miami Weigh In On Change Of Scenery

‘They bring a little life to Miami,’ one fan tells MTV News. By Mawuse Ziegbe Cast of “Jersey Shore” Photo: MTV After bar-brawling, club-hopping and GTL-ing their way to pop-culture stardom, the “Jersey Shore” kids had to take things to the next level in season two. So the crew upped the ante by taking the drama to another shore. In the second season of the MTV reality hit, which kicked off last week, the gang fist-pumps its way through Miami, and for the most part, South Beach fans have been enjoying the party. “I love ‘Jersey Shore.’ It’s … crazy,” Francisco Santander told MTV News. Denise Mata concurred: “[There is] always drama there, and it’s fun to watch [the] fights and them getting drunk, and it’s just funny to me.” The “Shore” crew has partied its way into fans’ hearts but has also weathered criticism that the super-tanned, party-startin’ housemates — who proudly champion the term “guidos” — reinforce Italian stereotypes. David Gliottone enjoys the craziness but has issues with their image. “I like the fact that they’re Italian,” Gliottone said. ” I don’t like the way that they act sometimes, [because] I think it kind of brings a negative vibe to the Italian community.” Nora Weinberg said she thinks the “Shore” stars should keep the drama up north, but added that it’s cool they’re branching out beyond the boardwalk. “I think they should be in Jersey, but I think it’s fun that they can go to Miami,” she said. George Ott said the crew’s antics have reached beyond the shores of both Jersey and Miami to score fans Down Under. “[I’m a] huge fan of the show in New Zealand,” Ott said. “[I] love the boys [and] JWoww.” As entertaining as fans find the cast’s beachside escapades, one viewer said the “Jersey Shore” crew may have brought too much heat to Miami. “I think the ‘Jersey Shore’ cast is really crazy and outgoing and they bring a little life to Miami,” Cassandra said. “But they need to stick to Jersey because they’re not supposed to be here doing that stuff. You don’t see that here in Miami.” What do you think about the “Jersey Shore” cast being in Miami? Let us know in the comments below! Don’t miss “Jersey Shore” every Thursday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV. Yelawolf Becomes ‘Hottest Breakthrough MCs Of 2010’ Contender With Big Boi’s Help

Fans decide our ‘Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010’ — vote now! The winner will be revealed on July 25. By Shaheem Reid Yelawolf Photo: Interscope “Hottest Breakthrough MCs of 2010” Candidate: Yelawolf Yelawolf just had a show in his hometown of Gadsden, Alabama, and was so moved by what he saw, he was at a loss for words. Luckily, he had rhymes instead. “You had these white boys with these big-ass trucks with mud all over them,” he recalled. “D-boys from the North Side projects rolling up on dunks. You had dune buggies, bikes. It was everything I’ve been saying coming to form.” Wolf has been toiling underground for years, signing with legendary record exec Kawan “KP” Prather in 2007. He went through getting dropped by Sony Records and being snubbed by Def Jam only to heat up so large, Interscope Records picked him up earlier this year. Wolf’s energetic live shows and his performance style — which fuses hip-hop and rock — set him apart. Of late, he’s gotten a major co-sign from Big Boi, appearing on the Andre 3000-produced Sir Lucious Left Foot track “You Ain’t No DJ.” “That was actually my debut feature on a distributed project with a major artist,” said Wolf, who has been on independent projects for Juelz Santana and Slim Thug. “That sh– is jamming. As soon as I found out, I was rubbing my hands together as to when I could work with Outkast. I’ve been with KP since ’07, waiting on that moment.” On his upcoming debut, Trunk Muzik: 0-60, Yela got a chance to work with another ATL superstar: Gucci Mane. “I wanted to take advantage of the moment,” he explained of working with Gucci on the yet-untitled track. “I was like, ‘Let’s go do an intro together. Let’s go intro this bitch and vibe out like MCs. Let’s do this bitch.’ That’s what we did. Gucci’s rock and roll, balls-to-the-wall hip-hop. Straight Southern b-boy rap sh–. I’ve always been a fan of Gucci’s style. I was a huge Crunchy Black fan. Even like the Nutcracker from Group Home, Shawty Lo. Very broken-down, simple rap style. I was excited to have him. It made the record. The record was already crazy; he just took it to that next level.” Wolf’s Trunk Muzik: 0-60 is an enhancement of his mixtape Trunk Muzik. “We picked the 0-60 title because, for one, we didn’t want to alienate any of the new fans we were making,” he described. “We felt it was too soon to step outside of anywhere we were. With Trunk Muzik, we created a sound and feeling we didn’t want to move from. We called it Trunk Muzik: 0-60 because it represents how fast we been moving since we been doing these shows and got a deal with Interscope. Everything is moving. We wanted to mirror that with the music. Picking five of the fan favorites from Trunk Muzik and putting on seven new ones. “I’m never scared what people are gonna think about music that I make,” Yela added. “I just go in there and make music that sounds good to me. And it sounds good to my crew. I just trust my crew. If it leaves the studio and we’re happy with it, that’s what matters the most to us. Because if we’re happy with it, then I can perform it. As long as I can perform that record, I can translate the energy I need to get somebody to understand it. I’ve worked so hard to get to this moment. I’m just soaking it up, taking it day by day, trying not to let it go to my head. I just love my fans and the fans I’m making. My fans are like no other. Completely original people.” Yelawolf and 19 other up-and-coming MCs are in the running to become MTV News’ “Hottest Breakthrough MC of 2010” — and the winner will be decided by you! Chris Paul Recalls Having The ‘X-Factor’ On ‘When I Was 17′

New Orleans Hornets star and his high school friends called their crew the X-Factor and even had hoodies made. By MTV News staff Chris Paul Photo: MTV News Seven years before he made his third NBA All-Star team, five years before he played for the U.S. in the Olympics, and three years before he won the NBA’s Rookie of the Year Award, Chris Paul was just a 17-year-old high school kid who enjoyed hanging out with his friends as much as shooting hoops. OK, maybe not as much — Paul was named North Carolina’s Mr. Basketball during his senior year, after all. But as we learn in the upcoming episode of MTV’s “When I Was 17,” the New Orleans Hornets point guard has as many memories of chilling with his pals as he does about raining 3’s over their heads. And not all of those memories come off looking so cool years later. Case in point: the crew he and his friends created. “We had a little crew called the X-Factor,” Paul revealed. The group was comprised mostly of football players, with the 6-foot-tall Paul contributing his fast feet, if not bulk. “We felt like we needed something to set ourselves apart, so we had jackets made,” he said. “Then going down the sleeve it said ‘X-Factor.’ ” The sweatshirts were white with mint-green graphics. There were hand-drawn, comic book-style musclemen placed here and there, a photo silkscreened on the back and a quote from Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Paul and his boys thought they were pretty cool. Paul’s brother CJ was less than impressed. “I just remember Chris came home, had a hoodie that said ‘X-Factor’ on it,” CJ laughed. “I thought they were very lame.” But to this day, Paul remains proud of his crew and their gear. “There’s always going to be haters,” he said. “But I think they were more envious, because whatever they were a part of would never be bigger and better than the X-Factor.” “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Chris Paul, Pitbull and Vanessa Minnillo — airs Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV. ‘The A-Team’ Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know

Bradley Cooper, Liam Neeson lead gun-loving soldiers of fortune out to prove their innocence. By Eric Ditzian Bradley Cooper in “The A-Team” Photo: 20th Century Fox “The A-Team” left the NBC airwaves in March 1987. In the ensuing 23 years, all we’ve had were reruns and the memory of Hannibal whispering, “I love it when a plan comes together!” Now those bomb-exploding, chopper-crashing, gun-loving soldiers of fortune are back, as “The A-Team” arrives in theaters on Friday (June 11). If you missed ’em or if you never even knew ’em, it’s time to meet the crew: Liam Neeson as cigar-chomping leader Hannibal; Bradley Cooper as smooth-talking Face; Sharlto Copley as loony Murdock; and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson as milk-drinking, ass-kicking B.A. Baracus. Special Forces soldiers wrongly convicted of war crimes, the four men band together to prove their innocence — and blow up a crapload of stuff in the process. The movie is, in a word, loud . It’s also a ton of fun, and MTV News wants you to enjoy the experience to the fullest. That’s why we’ve been following this project since its inception. Now, we present to you another edition of our big-screen cheat sheet: everything you need to know about “The A-Team.” The Plan Begins To Come Together After years of false starts, in January 2009, Joe Carnahan (“Smoking Aces”) signed on to direct the adaptation, with Ridley and Tony Scott coming aboard as producers. By June of that year, Cooper and Neeson had joined up, followed in August by Rampage . Copley and Jessica Biel , who plays the hard-nosed government agent going after the Team, inked deals in September. Filming on “The A-Team” kicked off in the fall, and the first photo of the guys on set popped up shortly thereafter. Days later, the world got its first peek at Rampage as Baracus , taking over the role made famous by Mr. T. Before she headed off to shoot, Biel spoke with MTV News about tackling the classic “A-Team” material. “I think it will be a little bit similar here and there, but we really have our own tone going on,” she said. “It’s a little bit less campy than the actual show and a little bit more serious action and fighting sequences but still with lots of humor. Lots and lots of humor.” The Team Lights It Up The first official glimpse of the new A-Team arrived in January 2010, when the trailer dropped online. It gave us a brief intro to the crew — and revived the pleasant sounds of the show’s familiar theme song. The studio, Fox, followed up that trailer with a slew of photos: explosions, guns and close looks at all of the characters. The following month, we were treated to introductions by video to members of the Team — Hannibal . Face and Biel’s Sosa . A second and final trailer was released in April, giving us more of everything we’ve come to expect from “The A-Team”: weapons, tough talk and mayhem. The New Crew Rolls Out Cooper, Biel, Neeson and the rest of the cast hit the red carpet last week for the Los Angeles premiere of their movie, where MTV News’ official Coca-Cola Movie Awards Insider was on hand to take in the action. Then over the weekend, we chatted with the cast once again. Cooper revealed that once they started shooting, the script basically got thrown out the window. “The script was fantastic actually,” he said. “And it sort of went away when we started shooting it, and that was an interesting process. That was probably the most morphed element of the movie, was what happened to the script.” Script or not, Carnahan and his team have got big plans for a sequel if it turns out the first one resonates with audiences more than two decades after the TV series went off the air. Those plans include the possibility of Mr. T re-entering the “A-Team” world. “My thing with T was, I brought him down to the editorial and showed him a lot of the film, and he loved it and laughed and was very supportive and seemed to really dig Rampage in that role,” Carnahan said. “I thought, where T is concerned, if there’s ever going to be a cameo, you don’t burn your powder. I think that’s a guy you save potentially for something bigger.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The A-Team.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Before Oil Spill, It Was Unclear Who Was in Charge of Rig – The New York Times

PART ONE… http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/06/us/06rig.html?hp June 5, 2010 Before Oil Spill, It Was Unclear Who Was in Charge of Rig By IAN URBINA NEW ORLEANS — Over six days in May, far from the familiar choreography of Washington hearings, federal investigators grilled workers involved in the Deepwater Horizon disaster in a chilly, sterile conference room at a hotel near the airport here. The six-member panel of Coast Guard and Minerals Management Service officials pressed for answers about what occurred on the rig on April 20 before it exploded. They wanted to know who was in charge, and heard conflicting answers. They pushed for more insight into an argument on the rig that day between a manager for BP, the well’s owner, and one for Transocean, the rig’s owner, and asked Curt R. Kuchta, the rig’s captain, how the crew knew who was in charge. “It’s pretty well understood amongst the crew who’s in charge,” he said. “How do they know that?” a Coast Guard investigator asked. “I guess, I don’t know,” Captain Kuchta said. “But it’s pretty well — everyone knows.” Looking annoyed, Capt. Hung Nguyen of the Coast Guard, one of the chief federal investigators, shook his head. The exchange confirmed an observation he had made earlier in the day at the hearing. “A lot of activities seem not very tightly coordinated in the way that would make me comfortable,” he said. “Maybe that’s just the way of business out there.” Investigators have focused on the minute-to-minute decisions and breakdowns to understand what led to the explosion of the Deepwater Horizon, killing 11 people and setting off the largest oil spill in United States history and an environmental disaster. But the lack of coordination was not limited to the day of the explosion. New government and BP documents, interviews with experts and testimony by witnesses provide the clearest indication to date that a hodgepodge of oversight agencies granted exceptions to rules, allowed risks to accumulate and made a disaster more likely on the rig, particularly with a mix of different companies operating on the Deepwater whose interests were not always in sync. And in the aftermath, arguments about who is in charge of the cleanup — often a signal that no one is in charge — have led to delays, distractions and disagreements over how to cap the well and defend the coastline. As a result, with oil continuing to gush a mile below the surface in the Gulf of Mexico, the laws of physics are largely in control, creating the daunting challenge of trying to plug a hole at depths where equipment is straining under more than a ton of pressure per square inch. Tad W. Patzek, chairman of the Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering Department at the University of Texas, Austin, has analyzed reports of what led to the explosion. “It’s a very complex operation in which the human element has not been aligned with the complexity of the system,” he said in an interview last week. His conclusion could also apply to what occurred long before the disaster. CONTINUED… added by: EthicalVegan
