Jimmy Lee Dykes Dead; Alabama Hostage Standoff Ends

The Alabama hostage situation , in which a man held a boy in a bunker for seven days, ended with the suspect dead and the 5-year-old safely rescued. Reports of an explosion at Jimmy Lee Dykes’ Midland City property came first on Monday afternoon, followed shortly by media reports of his death. At a hastily organized roadside press conference near the crime scene, FBI agent Steve Richardson said negotiations had deteriorated over the last 24 hours. He said they entered the bunker shortly after 3 p.m. fearing the child was “in imminent danger,” because they’d seen Dykes, 65, carrying a firearm. The boy, identified only as Ethan , was transported to a hospital, state Rep. Steve Clouse told CNN. He appeared physically unharmed, remarkably. Witnesses said they heard a boom and gunfire. Ambulances arrived soon afterward. The crisis began last Tuesday, January 29, when authorities say Dykes boarded a school bus and demanded that he take two boys between six and eight. The bus driver, Charles Albert Poland, Jr., is hailed as a hero for putting himself between Dykes and the children. His valor cost him his life. Dykes shot Poland several times before taking the 5-year-old from the bus. “You didn’t deserve to die but you died knowing you kept everyone safe,” said a letter from a student that was read aloud at the bus driver’s funeral. The bunker in which Jimmy Lee Dykes holed up was four feet underground. He equipped it with electricity and was said to have weeks of supplies stored. Negotiators communicated to him through a ventilation pipe. Because of the risk of tornadoes in Alabama, bunkers are a relative fixture on the landscape. Authorities sent Ethan’s prescription medicine into the property as well as items the boy requested like Cheez-Its snacks and a red Hot Wheels toy car. There was open communication with Dykes, according to authorities, but he’d made few demands, making it unclear what he hoped to accomplish. Some neighbors believed that Dykes may have timed the abduction to nearly coincide with a court appearance scheduled for the day after he shot Poland. In December, Dykes was arrested for shooting a gun to frighten a neighbor. For that incident and others, people who lived near Jimmy Lee Dykes were leery of him long before he became a hostage-taker who made national news. They said he once beat a dog to death with a pipe, warned children they’d be shot for crossing onto his land and guarded his property with a flashlight and gun. He was reportedly an anti-government loner who allegedly lost contact with an adult daughter years ago, according to people who lived near him.

Justice? Ain’t Isht Thug Who Burned Brooklyn Woman To Death In Elevator Gets Life Behind Bars

Too bad he didn’t get the chair. This guy deserved to fry. We will never forget this heinous crime and hope that the 73-year-old woman he murdered may rest in peace. Via NYPost reports : Jerome Isaac, 48, admitted in a plea deal that he ambushed Dolores Gillespie, 73, in 2011 by spraying gasoline on her, lighting her aflame with a barbeque lighter, then throwing a Molotov cocktail on her as her screams echoed through the building. “He will die in jail,” Gillespie’s daughter said in a statement read by prosecutors. “While my authentic feeling continues to be anger, ultimately, we believe that you fight fire with water … not fire. So may God have mercy on his soul.” The judge, prosecutors, and defense attorney all agreed the attack that the video of the attack – captured by a surveillance camera in the elevator – was among the worst sights they had ever seen. “I would have thought after 30 years in this business very little would have shocked me,” said ADA Mark Hale. “I was wrong. It’s a permanent part of my dreamscape. I have nightmares and that tops the list.” The judge and both attorneys praised the plea deal and how it ensures neither the victim’s family nor the jury will be forced to watch the horrific video. “It does in fact spare the family and the public the trauma of seeing the video,” defense attorney Howard Tanner said. Tanner also said his client – a Rastafarian – requested that the Department of Corrections not cut his hair. Isaac’s sentencing in November was postponed because he told probation officials “the devil tells him what to do.” Judge Vincet DelGiudice ordered a psyche evaluation and postponed sentencing until today, when it was revealed Isaac had been found fit to be sentenced. DelGiudice sentenced Isaac to 50 years to life on counts of murder and arson and said, “I can’t conceive of any right-minded individual allowing Mr. Isaac to rejoin the public.” Gillespie had hired Isaac for odd jobs but fired him when he stole her kitchenware and DVD player, which made Isaac so angry he planned the attack. SMH, the nerve of this guy asking to be allowed to keep his hair. Do you agree they should allow him to do so because of his faith? Nice that his family was so merciful, but do you hope this man is punished beyond his crime both here on earth and in the afterlife? That seems more like justice to us.

He famously stuck his finger in the peanut butter many years ago as a cast member on Real World: San Francisco , but now David Rainey is in serious trouble. The man best known as “Puck” kicked off his stint in prison this month, following a No Contest plea in April to charges of stalking. TMZ reports that Rainey committed the crime on February 22, though details behind it are unclear at the moment. He was sentenced to over a year in prison, however, which implies a court order violation of some kind. Rainey turned himself in to the Wasco State Prison on November 8 and was credited with 401 days served; he has approximately 300 remaining. In Shady Azz White Folks News: Lindsay Blohan Catches A Charge For Lying To Cops About Driving In Car Accident

Lindsay just can’t get right… Lindsay Lohan Charged With Lying To Police About Car Accident According to TMZ reports : Lindsay Lohan will be charged with the crime of lying to police after her car accident in June on Pacific Coast Highway … TMZ has learned. We broke the story … Lohan told cops she was NOT behind the wheel of her Porsche when it slammed into the back of an 18-wheeler. Fact is she was — according to multiple witnesses. Law enforcement sources tell us … the case will be filed as a misdemeanor by the Santa Monica City Attorney … possibly this week. The charge could spell huge trouble for Lindsay, because she’s currently on probation for the jewelry heist. The criminal filing could trigger a probation violation, and Judge Stephanie Sautner — the jewelry judge — could send her to the slammer for a long, long time. And law enforcement sources tell us … cops found prescription pills in her purse after the crash. Witnesses tell us pills were also scattered in her trunk. Our sources say authorities were prepared to charge LiLo with drug crimes, but Lindsay’s lawyer, Shawn Holley, gave cops documentations from Lindsay’s doctor, saying the pills were properly prescribed. Authorities then backed off that charge. As for the charge of lying to cops, Lindsay almost dodged that bullet. You may recall, after the accident, Lindsay went to the hospital where she was interviewed by cops, and that’s when she told them she wasn’t behind the wheel. Her lawyer, Shawn Holley, made a mad dash for the hospital to muzzle her client, but she was a few minutes too late. One rule when you are talking to cops, shut the f**k up! SMH Image via WENN

Daniel Craig Pushing For Second Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

Daniel Craig may be on he heels of one of the most anticipated films of the Fall, but he’s already looking ahead of 007 for his next gig. Craig said he’s hoping to be a part of a follow-up installment to the English-language version of Stieg Larsson’s trilogy, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo , though at the moment there seems to be little movement for the second installment, The Girl Who Played with Fire . Craig starred along with Rooney Mara, Christopher Plummer, Stellan Skarsgard and Robin Wright in the English version of the film, which grossed over $232 million worldwide last year. “Of course I’ll embrace [the movie], especially if [David] Fincher does it,” he told the Los Angeles Times. “I’m definitely going to work on him.” Fincher has a lot on his directing plate and has kept mum about a second round of the crime mystery. Danish-born director Niels Arden Oplev directed the original in 2009. “I’m definitely going to work on him,” said Craig. Skyfall is destined to be a worldwide blockbuster, but Craig said taking on indies can be a great change. “Sometimes shooting on a smaller scale, as long as things don’t blow out of proportion, is very liberating…But I wouldn’t like to self-consciously  go out and look for some nice small project just to get a chance to prove my acting chops. It’s like, I think I’ve … done enough of that.” [ Source: Los Angeles Times ]
