Get Well… AJ Jewell’s Daughter Asheley Remains In Critical Condition As Family Plans Vigil

Asheley Jewell, the daughter of Kandi Burruss’s late ex-fiance , is still in critical condition in a Georgia hospital after being shot in the head last weekend . And her family is actively seeking the public’s help in figuring out why. Friends and relatives of Asheley Jewell, the 15-year-old wounded in an apparent road rage shooting, will hold a candlelight vigil Saturday near the site of the shooting. Jewell, a Stephenson High School sophomore, was shot in the head and remains in critical condition at Grady Memorial Hospital. Jewell is the daughter of the late A.J. Jewell, a “Real Housewives of Atlanta” personality who died in 2009 after a fist fight outside an Atlanta strip club. About 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Fulton County police said, two vehicles were traveling on Old National Highway near Jerome Road when one started chasing the other. Shots were fired and Jewell, a passenger in the car being chased, was struck. No one else was hurt. Jewell was rushed to Grady and underwent surgery. “Investigators are looking into every possible motive as well as attempting to gain surveillance video from surrounding businesses for a closer description of the perpetrators’ vehicle,” Fulton detective Melissa Parker said. Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477. The vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at O’Reilly Auto Parts, 5549 Old National Highway in College Park. “The vigil is a step toward healing a family victimized by senseless violence,” said Jewell’s cousin, attorney Ebony Phillips. “It is also a call for justice in hopes that someone will come forward with invaluable information about this case. Although nothing can undo the events of March 5, 2011, the family is hopeful that justice will prevail.” Ashley “A.J.” Jewell died Oct. 2, 2009 after he and another man fought in the parking lot of the Body Tap, police said. A strip club employee was charged with voluntary manslaughter, but the charge was later dropped after it was determined Jewell died from a sickle cell crisis. We hope the person responsible for this random ridiculousness will do the right thing and turn him- or herself in. Source

Photo courtesy of the AJC Asheley Jewell remained in critical condition Friday, but her family says the 15-year-old is showing some progress, according to the AJC.com . As we previously reported, the Stephenson High sophomore was shot in the head last Saturday night in an apparent road rage incident on Old National Highway. None of the other passengers or the driver were injured. Jewell is the daughter of Kandi Burruss’ late fiance, A.J. Jewell, who died in 2009 after a fight outside the Body Tap strip club. “She is still technically listed as critical, but she does seem to recognize her mom’s voice, and she makes attempts to follow simple commands they give her, like to squeeze their hands,” her cousin, Ebony Phillips, told the AJC. “She can’t really do it physically but there’s a cognitive foundation they might be able to build on.” Friends and relatives will hold a candlelight vigil for Jewell on Saturday near the site of the shooting. The vigil starts at 7 p.m. at O’Reilly Auto Parts, 5549 Old National Highway in College Park. Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477. Read more at the AJC.com. Georgia Rep. Calls For Death Penalty For Women Who Miscarry

Here is the original post:

Statistics show that miscarriages account for around one quarter of all pregnancies , however it is contested that the rate may be much higher, as they occur early in the pregnancy, and the woman does not even know she is carrying yet. Recently, Georgia State Rep. Bobby Franklin has proposed a bill which would make abortion completely illegal and potentially put to death women who suffer a miscarriage. Yes, really. Rep. Franklin’s 10 page bill states that any miscarriage in which the mother could not prove that there was no ‘human involvement’, would be classed as a felony and punishable by life in prison or the death sentence. Further, the bill makes all women are responsible for protecting their fetus from the moment of conception. However the bill doesn’t go into specifics like what actually constitutes ‘human involvement’, and doesn’t specify how you can protect your fetus from conception, when you can’t even tell you’re pregnant until at least three weeks into the pregnancy. I guess when you’re a crazy old man, who has no chance of miscarrying yourself, and presumably have had all your children already, then you don’t need to worry about the specifics. Like considering that doctors do not even have a clear picture of what causes a miscarriage, how can human involvement even be defined? It reminds me of the proposed law in South Dakota, which made homicide legal, if it were to protect the life of an unborn child . Again the details were vague, leaving doctors at abortion clinics at the mercy of any crazy person who felt justified in killing them. Thankfully the law there was shelved. But the vagueness of the law isn’t even really my main problem. What really annoys me is the fact that miscarriage is being talked about at all. And by a bunch of middle aged males, who obviously have no ideas about medicine, or for that matter- women and their bodies. Having watched family members and friends suffer from miscarriages, I cannot even begin to fathom how it could be believed that someone would deliberately put themselves (and their families) through it. As if the pain of being told your child has died isn’t enough to have to deal with, imagine then being blamed for it and left to spend the rest of your life in prison. I’m not going to get int the whole debate about abortion, because I really don’t think there is a clear cut answer. My point is that miscarriage is not abortion, and thus, there should not, I don’t believe, even be a debate about the legality of miscarriage. Isn’t the main classification of a miscarriage that it was unintentional? It seems to me that this bill is just another example of the law makers trying to exert control over a woman’s mind and body. It fits in with a rape victim being blamed for the crime for dressing too provocatively, or Lara Logan being blamed by some quarters for being attacked because she was too attractive or ‘asked for it ‘ . Women are, in this case, being blamed for a common biological occurrence that not even the doctors can explain. You have to wonder if, if having children rested on male shoulder’s, would there be a push to criminalize miscarriage? I don’t believe that someone who has had no experience with suffering a miscarriage, can try and force their own opinions on an entire state. Hopefully, the policy makers and residents in Georgia share some of my sentiments and those of Mother Jones’ writer Jen Phillips who called it ‘the apex…of women hating craziness’ , and this bill is shelved also. Opinions? Should A Woman Who Kills Her Kids Get Away With Murder? Are Black Children An Endangered Species? Kanye West Tweets About Abortion For No Reason, Sparks Feud (Of Course)

Some Tragic Swirl: Ex-NFL Player Admits To Having Sexual Relations With Woman Who Killed His Pregnant Girlfriend

Wow on this one: Bears great Shaun Gayle admitted he had a sexual relationship with Marni Yang and that they had sex the night before the murder of his pregnant girlfriend Rhoni Reuter. The admission came during Gayle’s testimony in Yang’s murder trial in Waukegan on Tuesday. Yang is accused of killing Reuter and her unborn child to eliminate her romantic competition. The defense cross-examined Gayle on his relationship with another woman, Monica Kurowska. Gayle first told police he suspected Kurowska in the murder. He said he had an order of protection against her for a series of harassing letters and stalking. Gayle says he was questioned by Deerfield police for 10 hours after the murder. During opening statements on Friday, the defense warned that Yang was a victim too. Attorney William Hedrick told jurors there was no obsession or motive. He said that at the time of the slaying, Gayle was seeing 18 or 19 different women, and he called Yang’s purported confession to the crime a “festival of liars.” Damn, this isn’t a joke, but dude must’ve had that good “D” for these broads (18 or 19 though???) to be going crazy for him like that!!! R.I.P. to Rhoni Reuter and the baby… Source

Lindsay Lohan In First Post-Rehab Interview: ‘I Feel Great’

Actress says she’s healthy and eager to get back to work. By Gil Kaufman Lindsay Lohan Photo: Jeff Vespa/ WireImage She’s not out of the woods quite yet, but Lindsay Lohan is feeling optimistic about her life and her career. In her first post-rehab interview, Lohan sat down with “Extra” on Tuesday night (the second part of the chat from her new Los Angeles home will air Wednesday night) and said she’s finally ready to reboot her stalled career. “I feel great. I feel happy,” said the “Mean Girls” actress, who is still facing potential jail time over her alleged theft of a $2,500 necklace . “There’s always things, you know, bumps we have in the road, and as long as I am focusing on the one thing I need to put first in my life, which is my recovery and stuff, and I’m doing good and that’s most important for me.” She said she spent her 73 days in treatment writing and reading and “talking to other people and hearing their stories.” It’s been more than a year since Lohan appeared onscreen, in “Machete,” and the combination of jail time and a stint in rehab have prevented her from working. The latter caused her to lose out on the lead role in the Linda Lovelace biopic, “Inferno,” but Lohan said she’s eager to work again. “I miss being on set,” she said. “I really do miss it. I know there’s going to be a lot of steps I’ll have to go through to prove myself again and get the trust from people I respect to work with, but I’m willing to do what I have to do to get there because that’s my passion.” But first, she needs to prove that she can be insurable again, because, she admitted, “I don’t think I am right now.” More than anything, Lohan said she wants to get back into the game to make “great films” and tell “great stories,” something she’s aspired to do her whole life. “Personal instances in my life have gotten in the way,” she explained of the multiple hiccups in her once-promising professional career. “But I don’t want that to be what I am known for, the tabloid stuff, that’s not me. I don’t like the attention. I want my attention to come through my films and the work I am doing, not for if I’m going to the hair salon.” Lohan is due back in court on March 10. The judge in the case has said she will most assuredly face jail time if she accepts a plea deal in the felony grand theft case. Her other option is to roll the dice by pleading not guilty and going to trial. Lohan has avoided speaking about the case to date, but she did appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Sunday night after the Oscars, where she lampooned the incident. Stop The Violence: Four Teens Killed At Sweet Sixteen Party

Dayuuuuum! Is anything safe for teens these days?? Gwinnett County Police continue to investigate a late Saturday night shooting at a Sweet 16 birthday party at which four teens were shot and one was grazed by shrapnel. The shooting happened at about 11 p.m. at a home on Lock Ness Lane in unincorporated Gwinnett near Snellville. Police said an individual began to shoot “randomly” into the house where the party was being held and about 50 people were in attendance. The youths, only one of whom was injured seriously, according to police, were taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, treated and released. The teens, ages 15 to 17, were shot in the leg, foot, arm and buttocks. Investigators said they have not identified the shooter and hope that the victims can give them more information. There may be a connection to gang activity and drug activity, but no solid connections can yet be made, police said. Descriptions of the suspect were so varied that investigators have not been able to focus on one suspect, police said. No one at the crime scene was able to provide names of possible suspects or describe a vehicle that might have been involved, they added. SMH. Sidenote: we’re really gonna need Gwinnett County, GA to get it together.

Lindsay Lohan Posts Bail, Thanks Dr. Drew On Twitter

Troubled actress was charged with felony grand theft on Wednesday. By Gil Kaufman Lindsay Lohan Photo: Getty Images Hours after being arraigned on Wednesday on a felony charge of grand theft in connection with the alleged lifting of a $2,500 necklace from a Venice, California, jewelry store, troubled actress Lindsay Lohan posted $40,000 bail and was released from jail. E! News reported that Lohan’s first order of business after being sprung was to tweet a link to a photo of her with Kanye West taken at a February 4 dinner party for designer Giuseppe Zanotti. That snap was reportedly taken down a short time later, at which point she responded to a tweet of support from “Celebrity Rehab” star Dr. Drew Pinsky. Pinsky wrote , “I am mortified how @Lindsaylohan is getting attacked when she is so fragile and just establishing her sobriety. Not at all what she needs.” Lohan appeared to be grateful for the gesture, responding , “@ddrew thank you for your support. I appreciate it.” It was a tough day for the 24-year-old actress, who appeared to be getting her life back together after a stint in rehab that saved her from another jail term following a probation violation last year. L.A. Superior Court Judge Keith Schwartz ruled on Wednesday to revoke Lohan’s probation in her previous misdemeanor case and set bail at $40,000 — $20,000 for the felony theft charge and $20,000 for the possible probation violation. Lohan’s lawyer entered a not-guilty plea on her behalf as the judge issued a harsh admonishment. “You’re in a different situation now that a felony has been filed against you,” Schwartz said, later adding, “If you violate the law, I will remand you and set no bail.” The judge explained that Lohan wouldn’t be able to dodge jail time and post bail as she did last year after she admittedly failed a court-mandated drug test , saying, “A felony is a different situation and you’re not entitled to bail.” The judge also firmly told the starlet, “You need to follow the laws just like everybody else,” and added, “Please, don’t push your luck. I’m telling you, things will be different.” Lohan allegedly lifted the necklace from the Venice jewelry store on January 22. The store’s owner reported the theft to the Los Angeles Police Department, which later investigated the accusation and presented evidence to the district attorney’s office last week. The actress faces up to three years in prison on the felony charge. TMZ reported on Thursday that a police report it obtained appears to show that Lohan walked out of the same store with a diamond earring a few days before the incident at the center of her current case. She tried on a pair of 18-karat-gold white-diamond earrings, removed one and continued shopping while wearing a single earring. Before leaving, a clerk reminded her about the earring and Lohan admitted her mistake and returned it. That scenario could actually help Lohan if the case goes to court because it could show that the actress did not intend to commit a crime in the necklace case. Criminal defense lawyer Jacob Glucksman told MTV News on Wednesday that the case will come down to the issue of intent, which could be hard for the prosecutor’s office to prove. One of the keys to the case will be prior acts, including similar incidents in the past in which Lohan has been accused of (but never criminally charged with) keeping or taking something that didn’t belong to her. “There’s an evidence code in California [section 1101 (b)] that relates to character evidence,” Glucksman said. “It says that character evidence cannot be used to prove a person’s propensity to commit a crime. That means they can’t say that ‘Lindsay Lohan is the type of person who would commit this crime because she’s done XYZ in the past.’ ” However, Glucksman, who is not involved in the Lohan case, added that you can use prior acts to show “motive, intent, opportunity, knowledge or modus operandi,” in which case prosecutors could use the character evidence to show that she had intent to steal this time. Judge Schwartz set a February 23 hearing in the case and TMZ reported that Lohan’s attorney could try to work out a plea deal before that date. The necklace-nicking incident is the latest case in Lohan’s extensive litany of legal run-ins. The starlet was recently released from rehab after failing a court-ordered drug test and spending 2010 in and out of courtrooms and in prison for continually failing to comply with the conditions of her probation stemming from a 2007 DUI bust.
