Taylor Momsen: It’s Okay Mom and Dad!

It wasn’t long ago that Taylor Momsen blamed her “damaged” and abrasive attitude on her parents , who forced her into modeling and acting so early. Now she appears to be backing off that sentiment. The Gossip Girl star tells Kerrang! magazine (UK) that her comments were taken out of context when she said her folks made her “miserable” and “upset.” “No two year old wants to be working, but I had no choice,” Taylor said. “My whole life, I was in and out of school. I didn’t have friends. I didn’t have a real life.” In a rare moment of softness, Taylor now lets her parents off the hook, revealing she didn’t really mean to slam mom and dad, who felt “horrible” about all this. “I love my mom and dad. Maybe I didn’t have the childhood people think you should have, but I still went through the ages, I was still a child,” she says now . “Maybe it wasn’t a conventional one, but you know, I like where I am now so it’s OK.” We like where she is too. Now if she would just smile once in awhile … The Pretty Reckless – Make Me Wanna Die

Joan Rivers Labels "Stupid" Sarah Palin a "Threat"

In President Obama’s Tucson speech last week, he said the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords should not be blamed on rhetoric by any person or group, while at the same time calling for a more civil, positive national discourse. Amen. Joan Rivers apparently missed this memo. Asked about Palin at the Critic’s Choice Awards party in Hollywood, Rivers said people blaming Palin for the Tucson tragedy are right, adding that “this woman is just stupid and a threat.” To what? The English language maybe. Beyond that? Listen to Rivers’ absurd comments below: Joan Rivers Calls Out Sarah Palin We’re with Palin on this one. The mindless finger pointing has to stop. Taking her to task for her actual actions is one thing. Baseless nonsense like this quite another.

Grave of the Fireflies: A Japanese Anime Masterpiece

“Grave of the Fireflies” is a Japanese anime masterpiece, an animated drama film written and directed by Isao Takahata, with animation production work provided by Studio Ghibli. “Grave of the Fireflies” tells the story of two children from Japan’s port city of Kobe, who have been made homeless by the WWII American firebombing of the city. The film is based on a semi-autobiographical novel by Nosaka Akiyuki, who was a boy at the time of the firebombs, whose sister did die of hunger and whose life has been shadowed by guilt. Roger Ebert considers “Grave of the Fireflies” to be one of the most powerful anti-war movies ever made and has described the film as “an emotional experience so powerful that it forces a rethinking of animation….“Grave of the Fireflies” is a powerful dramatic film that happens to be animated, and I know what the critic Ernest Rister means when he compares it to “Schindler’s List” and says, “It is the most profoundly human animated film I’ve ever seen.” The film tells a simple story of survival. The boy and his sister must find a place to stay and food to eat. But in wartime their relatives are neither kind nor generous, and and the boy soon is left to fend for both himself and his young sister. He has some money and can buy food, but soon there is no food to buy. His sister grows weaker and weaker. Their story is told not as melodrama, but rather in the simple and direct manner of the neo-realist tradition. And there is time for silence in it. One of the film’s greatest gifts is its patience; shots are held so that we can think about them; characters are glimpsed in their private moments; atmosphere and nature are given time to establish themselves. This piece includes a number of high-resolution colorful illustrations, as well as an HD full-version of the acclaimed animated film. http://disembedded.wordpress.com/2010/11/29/grave-of-the-fireflies-a-japanese-an… added by: disembedded

SNL Hater Kanye West Heads to SNL

This could be awkward. Professional Twitterer Kanye West will appear on the Bryan Cranston-hosted episode Saturday Night Live as musical guest, which wouldn’t be a problem if his single “Power,” didn’t put the entire program on full blast . “F*** SNL and the whole cast,” Kanye raps on the song. “Tell ’em Yeezy said they can kiss my whole ass.” Well, then. Meanwhile, I’m just crestfallen that yet another “surprise” about the new season of Saturday Night Live has been spoiled . [ Futon Critic ]

Lady Gaga on Glee Episode: AHHH!

Glee paid tribute to Lady Gaga Tuesday. Perhaps you heard. Critics and fans loved the Fox show’s episode, which drew praise from the often-imitated, never duplicated (sorry, Christina Aguilera ) star as well. “I love Glee ,” the singer told EW . “I went to a musical theatre school, and used to dream that someday the students would be singing my songs.” Gaga also posted on Twitter about the Glee episode, called “Theatricality,” summing her feelings up simply: “GLEE WAS SO AMAZING! AHHH!!!!” Pretty much the exact reaction of our critic’s Glee review . Lady Gaga: Glee’s #1 fan. [Photo: PacificCoastNewsOnline.com] This week’s episode saw New Directions do just that, when the club’s female vocalists, and Kurt, donned some of Gaga’s most memorable looks. They proceeded to rock the house with “Bad Romance.” But it was Rachel’s duet with Shelby of “Poker Face” what stole the show a little later on. “I don’t channel Lady Gaga,” cast member and Broadway veteran Idina Menzel said of tackling the showstopper. “I’m just in awe of Lady Gaga.” That’s high praise, but well-earned. Here’s hoping that Gaga’s health problems improve and she returns to the stage in short, awesome order.
