The Wall Street Journal reports that while Internet dating sites are attracting fewer visitors these days, services like “The Professional Wingman” are gaining traction. For a starting fee of $130, “The Professional Wingman” will link you up with someone to act as your wingman when you’re out on the town mingling. Not that it’s better to kill people that HAVE homes, but damn, aren’t these folks suffering enough??? Homeless men in southern California are being warned by police to stick together and remain on high alert for a suspected serial killer who may be preying on them. The murders of three homeless, middle-aged men since Dec. 20 have police scrambling to caution the “significant” homeless population in Orange County, according to Anaheim police spokesman Sgt. Bob Dunn. All three men were stabbed to death by their attacker, who police believe is a man captured on surveillance video during one of the crimes. The deaths occurred in Anaheim, Yorba Linda, and Placentia, from Dec. 20 to Dec. 30. Anaheim police, together with neighboring police departments, the county sheriff, and the FBI, are warning homeless people throughout the area to take precautions, including traveling and sleeping in well-lit, well-populated areas. They have launched a campaign to get the information to the vulnerable population, handing out fliers, notifying homeless shelters and soup kitchens, and asking churches to notify those who seek services, Dunn said. They are also asking the homeless to report any suspicious behavior, which they are often reluctant to do, the police spokesman said. The victims were alone when the attacks happened, said Dunn. But two of the murders occurred in public spaces, one at a strip mall around 8 p.m., and one outside of a library just before closing time, around 5 p.m. Passersby reported the crimes to the police, he said. We’re not sure how many homeless folks are actually reading this, but if you’re in the southern Cali area, pay attention if the guy that usually panhandles on that same corner you drive past everyday on your way to work isn’t there. Oklahoma media have the compelling story of a shotgun-toting 18-year-old mother who killed an intruder on New Year’s Eve after a 911 operator told her, “Do what you have to do to protect your baby.” NBC affiliate KFOR-TV has video of its interview with Sarah McKinley, who was alone with her 3-month-old son in their Blanchard home, MSNBC says. McKinley says two men — one of whom she had met previously — appeared at her door Saturday night and then tried to break in. Two days earlier, she had buried her husband, who died of cancer on Christmas Day. One man — identified as 24-year-old Justin Martin — had come by Thursday to express condolences. But Saturday, armed with a foot-long hunting knife, he and his partner attempted to break down McKinley’s door. She blocked it with her couch, grabbed her baby and fetched a 12-gauge shotgun and a handgun before calling 911. Martin, who charged McKinley with his knife, was hit in the “upper torso,” police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His cohort, Dustin Louis Stewart, 29, fled but later surrendered to authorities. Blanchard police say McKinley acted in self-defense. “Oklahoma laws are clear on home defense. I think they’re clear to most individuals that you can defend yourself in your home,” said Detective Supervisor Dan Huff. Source Peep the interview and re-enactment on the next page!

Via HipHopWired.com : A bizarre New Year’s Eve argument in a Cleveland suburb over the union of R&B diva Beyoncé and rapper-business mogul Jay-Z resulted in the stabbing of a 48-year old Garland Heights man just before the clock struck midnight. Police officials for the city of Parma, just southwest of Cleveland, told a local Fox News affiliate that on December 31, an argument ensued between 31-year old Ronald Deaver and the stabbing victim. While watching a music video, Deaver became enraged that the victim was unaware that Beyoncé was the wife of Jay-Z, leading to the verbal clash and subsequent stabbing. The Fox News station obtained the police report which states the attack allegedly took place at around 11 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, just outside of Deaver’s apartment. Authorities were alerted and headed to the scene, rushing the victim to nearby Metrohealth Medical Center where he was said to be in good condition. Really ninjas??? Like, for real? SMDH! Another day, another Catholic Church scandal. An assistant bishop of the Roman Catholic archdiocese of Los Angeles has resigned because he has a secret family, including two teenage children. The Vatican said on Wednesday that Pope Benedict had accepted the resignation of Gabino Zavala, an auxiliary bishop of the diocese which has been plagued by sexual scandals. A brief Vatican announcement did not give the reason for Zavala’s resignation, saying only that the pope had accepted it under the norm in canon (Church law) that says a bishop who is ill or otherwise unfit to carry out his duties should resign. But Zavala’s direct superior, Los Angeles Archbishop Jose Gomez, has prepared a letter for the faithful in the archdiocese explaining the circumstances of the departure of Zavala, who was assistant bishop for the San Gabriel region of California. In the letter, a draft of which was obtained from a Catholic Church source in Rome, Gomez said Zavala, 60, had informed him in early December that he was the father of two teenage children who live with their mother in another state. The Catholic Church demands celibacy from its priests. “Bishop Zavala also told me that he submitted his resignation to the Holy Father in Rome, which was accepted. Since that time, he has not been in ministry and will be living privately,” Gomez says in the letter. “The Archdiocese has reached out to the mother and children to provide spiritual care as well as funding to assist the children with college costs. The family’s identity is not known to the public, and I wish to respect their right to privacy,” the letter says. Gomez asked for prayers “for all those impacted by this situation and for each other as we reflect on this letter.” Zavala’s resignation is the latest headache for the diocese, which paid a $660 million settlement in 2007 for cases of sexual abuse going as far back at the 1940. Zavala was also the latest Catholic Church official who was found to have had a secret family. The late leader of the Legionaries of Christ religious order, Father Marcial Maciel, who died in 2008 at the age of 87, lived a double life for decades that was not discovered until after his death. Maciel, a Mexican, was found to have abused seminarians. He was also discovered to have had a mistress with whom he had fathered several children.
