Who Won Halloween 2K18: The Good, The Bad & Wackest Celebrity Costumes

Source: M_a_y_a / Getty Low key, Halloween is way more fun as an adult than as a kid. One of the best parts about Halloween as a grown up is the lit parties and unbelievably creative costumes. Seeing famous people dress up as other famous people is pretty dope too. For example, Beyonce rarely changes up her look — specifically when it comes to hair and makeup. But for Halloween, the Queen always shows up and shows out.   Bey stepped on necks this year as Toni Braxton . The Queen remade Toni’s “Another Sad Love Song” cover and renamed herself “Phoni Braxton”.   Bey always gets it right, and proves she’s not as far removed from the culture as folks think. Toni Braxton isn’t the only legend Bey paid homage to in her post. One fan tweeted , “Do y’all know why Beyoncé’s Halloween costume is near & dear to my heart? ‘LHHATL’ Star Spice Just Pulled Off The Best Marketing Ploy To Get People To Listen To Her Mixtape

Source: SPEX PHOTOGRAPHY, INC / SPEX PHOTOGRAPHY, INC Colorism is an issue not only prevalent in American culture but in Caribbean culture as well and this Love & Hip Hop Atlanta artist Spice (real name Grace Hamilton) is using her platform to speak out about it. Spice scammed all of us when she posted a questionable photo on Instagram that left fans speculating she bleached her skin. It turns out, the image was a super effective marketing ploy to grab our attention. Spice released her mixtape Captured , which debuted at #1 on the reggae charts. Spice’s controversial promotion raised eyebrows, but for good reason. Her first single is about the affects of colorism and how it could push someone to bleach their skin. “I get hate from my own race yes that’s a fact,” she raps. “Cause the same black people dem say I’m too black and if you bleach out you skin dem same one come a chat.” Celebrities and artists like Michael Jackson, Vybez Kartel and Sammy Sosa infamously bleached their skin to appear lighter. Spice’s stance, banish colorism, was met with polarizing comments. While some fans understood her message, others couldn’t understand her tactics. I want to congratulate Spice’s PR stunt and people because they successfully nailed these goals. Her single #BlackHypocrisy topping the charts, statement is proved, and her followers grew from 1.4M to 1.6M in a matter of 36 hours. Impeccable . — T E E R E I G N (@TeeReign_) October 23, 2018 I have a new level of respect for @spiceofficial . I love and respect how you embrace and stood firm when all was against u. Ur song #Blackhypocrisy speaks loud, volume and to me even tho I'm a man. Keep it up. — Marlando-Anthony (@Marlaan_Anthony) October 23, 2018 Spice really was speaking facts in her song, but if she really bleached her skin I’ll be sick af… #BlackHypocrisy — ChRiStLe (@Chrizz_Till) October 23, 2018 In 2017, website SoulReflectionz.com spoke with six Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaican natives, who shared their thoughts on the idea that lighter skin is more desirable. “There’s no question that in Trinidad and Tobago, a lot of people see light-skinned individuals as superior to those with darker skin. Here, light-skinned means ‘exotic’ to many, and exotic, in turn, is considered to be more interesting,” Michael from Trinidad and Tobago said. “Light-skinned people tend to have the advantage/upper hand when it comes to the way they are treated by the general public. I’m not just saying that. I’ve seen it with my own eyes, and, being dark-skinned, have been on the receiving end of negativity because of my shade of black. Slavery definitely has a part to play in this mindset.” Spice is using her platform to promote change in the culture. We’re here for it. Stream her mixtape, here . Megyn Kelly Walks Back Idiotic Defense of Blackface

Megyn Kelly would like a mulligan. On Tuesday morning, the former Fox News host reminded NBC viewers where she used to work by sitting around with a few panelists and making a passionate defense for… … the use of blackface on Halloween? Yes. According to our records, this really was the random and racist hill on which Kelly decided to die for some reason. During the controversial segment on Tuesday, Kelly said it was perfectly alright when she was growing up for white people to dress up as black characters on October 31, speaking out against the Politically Correct Police these days who frown on such a thing. She used a really specific example to drive home her point, too. Back in April, an episode of The Real Housewives of New York featured cast member Luann de Lesseps going out for Halloween as Diana Ross . She received backlash for the outfit and then she apologized. Simple and understandable enough, right? Not to Megyn Kelly! “But what is racist?” Kelly asked, digging herself a deep grave by expounding as follows: “Because you do get in trouble if you are a white person who puts on blackface on Halloween, or a black person who puts on whiteface for Halloween. “Back when I was a kid that was OK, as long as you were dressing up as, like, a character.” We’re pretty sure that last sentence is demonstrably false; there just wasn’t social media back in the day over which folks could voice their concerns about these types of costumes. After earning immediate flak from basically everyone with a pulse, Kelly issued an apology on Tuesday evening. Written as an internal note, a copy of which was provided by a spokesperson for NBC via Twitter, Kelly said the following: One of the wonderful things about my job is that I get the chance to express and hear a lot of opinions. T oday is one of those days where listening carefully to other points of view, including from friends and colleagues, is leading me to rethink my own views. Continued Kelly: When we had the roundtable discussion earlier today about the controversy of making your face look like a different race as part of a Halloween costume, I suggested that this seemed okay if done as part of this holiday where people have the chance to make themselves look like others. The iconic Diana Ross came up as an example. To me, I thought, why would it be controversial for someone dressing up as Diana Ross to make herself look like this amazing woman as a way of honoring and respecting her? I realize now that such behavior is indeed wrong, and I am sorry. The history of blackface in our culture is abhorrent; the wounds too deep. Yes, exactly. Kelly prides herself as a journalist and yet somehow didn’t realize previously that blackface — which was used in the late 19th century and early 20th century by white theater performers to mock and stereotype African-Americans – has an offensive history?!? Come on, Megs. As Melania Trump might say, try to be be better, okay? Try not to make it so clear that you want back on Fox News and are happy to show executives there while you still belong. Go ahead and search social media for the best responses to this scandal, but we’ll go with Top Chef Padma Lakshmi and her Tweet. This is what she wrote: “I cannot believe the ignorance on this in 2018. You are on national television. “You have a responsibility to educate yourself on social issues @megynkelly. This is so damaging.” Once aganin: Yes, exactly.

Black Girl Magic: Simone Biles Calls Out The New Head of USA Gymnastics After Her Anti-Nike Tweet

Ouzounova/Splash News Simone Biles Goes In On USA Gymnastics’ Interim President Simone Biles ain’t playing no games! The Olympic gold medalist let it all out on Twitter this week, criticizing USA Gymnastics’ decision to appoint Mary Bono as interim president and chief executive officer on Saturday. Biles shared her disapproval with USA Gymnastics’ decision via her Twitter page, resurfacing an anti-Nike tweet that Bono proudly posted last month. In the now-deleted Tweet, Bono posted a photo of her blacking out a Nike logo in the wake of the company’s advertising endorsement of Colin Kaepernick–she was given Nike shoes at a golfing event but decided to cover over the white swoosh with a black sharpie. Innovative. Biles retweeted the statement along with her explicit disapproval of new Bono’s appointment, writing, “*mouth drop* don’t worry, it’s not like we needed a smarter usa gymnastics president or any sponsors or anything.” Unsurprisingly, Bono also tweeted out #BoycottNike during the company’s campaign. In case you’re unfamiliar, Nike is a huge  sponsor  of the U.S. Olympic Committee. Bono is a former US Congresswoman and spent 15 years in the legislature until 2013. She won her first term during a special election to fill the vacant seat of her deceased husband, pop star and legislator Sonny Bono. Following that, she was most recently working at a consulting firm in Washington D.C. The Olympic organization is going to keep Bono as their acting president until they find a permanent replacement for Kerry Perry. After deleting the initial anti-Nike Tweet, Bono released an apology saying the following: “I deeply regret posting the tweet because I respect everyone’s views and their fundamental right to express them,” she said in a statement released by U.S.A. Gymnastics. “This in no way reflects how I will approach my position at U.S.A. Gymnastics. I will do everything I can to help change the culture and to work with the entire community to build an open, safe and positive environment.” I regret the post and respect everyone’s views & fundamental right to express them. This doesn’t reflect how I will approach my position @USAGym I will do everything I can to help build, w/ the community, an open, safe & positive environment. — Mary Bono (@MaryBonoUSA) October 14, 2018

Vic Mensa…Apologizes? For Dissing The Late XXXtentacion Right In Front Of His Mother At The BET Hip Hop Awards [Video]

Splash News/Getty Vic Mensa Adresses BET Cypher Freestyle About XXXtentacion Vic Mensa apparently had some choice words for recently deceased rapper XXXtentacion during his BET Hip Hop cypher over the weekend. While his exact words remain unclear until the segment airs on BET on October 16, whatever he said about the slain rapper definitely offended some of his friends and associates…not to mention the fact that X’s own mother was seated in the audience to hear his critique of her son’s actions in life. Granted, Vic holds some deep convictions about violence against women and the intense domestic abuse charges that were brought against X by a former girlfriend while he was alive. As such, Vic chose to speak his mind during his alotted bars. To explain himself, he basically gave all of X’s rabid teen fans a “sorry, not sorry” response on what he had to say…but offered sincere condolences to the rapper’s mother for her loss, and emphasized that he was not aware that she would be in attendance. Protect women. Domestic & sexual abuse are not excusable because you have talent or you are troubled. With that said I was not aware his mother would be in attendance & I offer her my deepest condolences. However, to further prove his original point, he included a few of the…colorful retaliatory comments X’s die hard fans have been leaving for one of his associates ever since news broke that he “dared” speak ill of the rapper. this is the culture that promoting violence against women in music creates. these are messages to the director of my CHARITY IN CHICAGO. these kids are taught that this mentality is ok by their abusive heroes and normalize this shit. I CALL BS! People, particularly the young, have a tendency to idolize and blindly defend their faves regardless of WHAT information comes out about them or their actions. It’s not surprising that Vic is getting these sorts of responses to his comments, despite the fact that 98% of those clapping back have no clue what he actually said. It will be interesting to hear exactly what specifically he had to say when the show airs next week. Do you think Vic is in the right here? Splash/Getty
