Scientists Track Sea Turtles’ Mysterious Travels for Better Conservation

Photo via Live Science Threatened and endangered sea turtles are getting some extra attention as they migrate around Florida. Green, hawksbill and loggerhead turtles are being equipped with cameras to record their movements so that biologists know what they need to do to help protect these species. Dry Tortugas National Park, 70 miles west of Key West, Florida, is a protected area, but it’s just a small fraction of the area the turtles use during their lifetimes. Judge Strikes Down Obama’s Offshore Drilling Ban

Photo via the Telegraph A federal judge in New Orleans blocked the Obama administration’s 6 month moratorium on deep water offshore drilling. According to the New York Times , the judge Martin L. C. Feldman wrote in a 22-page opinion that “The blanket moratorium … seems to assume that because one rig failed and although no one yet fully knows why, all companies and rigs drilling new wells over 500 feet also universally present an imminent danger.” He said the offshore ban would cause “punitive” economic harm and was unwarranted. Good-bye, Polar Bears, Hello, Oil-drenched Pelicans: How the Gulf Spill is Changing the Environmental Movement

Does the "Utility Only" Cap and Trade Pass Muster?

Photo via the Blind Eye The chances of comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation passing the Senate continue to slip away as the election cycle draws nearer. ‘Moderate’ Dems fear throwing their support behind a climate bill like Kerry and Lieberman’s, since Republicans have had some success falsely labeling the bill a ‘job-killing energy tax” (never mind that the vast majority of Americans support clean energy legislation). So, a number of alternative options are being considered, such as an ‘energy only’ bill, and a ‘utility only’ cap and trade bill — a bi… Read the full story on TreeHugger

Weekday Vegetarian: White Bean and Arugula Salad with Lemon Dill Vinaigrette

Photo: Kelly Rossiter I guess like most home vegetable gardeners , I am having my share of hits and misses this season. Some enterprising little critter ate all of my carrot tops as soon as they started to come out, so that was the end of that. My beets were doing fabulously, but something has started to eat them as well, which I find much more upsetting. My
