Jon Stewart Signs Massive Deal With HBO

Fans of Jon Stewart need not worry that they won’t see him as much since he left The Daily Show in August (having hosted since 1999). According to TVLine , Stewart inked a four-year production deal with HBO that includes a “short-form digital content” focused on current events through Stewart’s “unique prism,” which he will both produce and star in. The deal also includes “a first-look option for other film and TV” projects. “Jon Stewart led a revolution that changed the face of TV comedy on The Daily Show,” HBO president Michael Lombardo said in a statement. “He graced our network nearly 20 years ago, so we’re thrilled to welcome back his immense talents in this next chapter of his career.” Stewart also released a statement on the deal.  “I’m so excited to be working with Richard [Plepler], Michael and the entire HBO family,” he said. “Appearing on television 22 minutes a night clearly broke me. I’m pretty sure I can produce a few minutes of content every now and again.” This isn’t the first time Stewart has worked with HBO; he had a recurring role on the Larry Sanders Show , hosted George Carlin: 40 Years of Comedy , as well as his own stand-up show, Jon Stewart: Unleavened . Jon Stewart Signs Off: Watch His Daily Show Goodbye

Donald Trump didn’t steal every political and television headline last night. Even if he did once again slam Rosie O’Donnell during the first Republican debate of 2015. Jon Stewart Signs Off from The Daily Show Jon Stewart aired his final installment of The Daily Show, a special one-hour episode that brought back every former correspondent who has since struck it huge. Among others, Olivia Munn, Ed Helms and even Darth Vader showed up to send the comedian off to his farm in New Jersey, where he’ll be spending time with his family as opposed to all the time he’s spent slamming Fox News over the past 16 years. At one point, Stephen Colbert grew serious and told his mentor: “We owe you because we learned from you. We learned from you by example, how to do a show with intention, how to work with clarity, how to treat people with respect. “We are better people for having known you … I do not know what I would do if you hadn’t brought me on this show.” And then it was time for Stewart himself to say goodbye. Not that he wanted to use that actual word. “Rather than saying goodbye or goodnight, I’m just going to say that I’m going to get a drink,” he concluded at the end of the finale. “Nothing ever ends. … it’s been a privilege.” Indeed it has. Wyatt Cenac: Former Daily Show Correspondent Says Jon Stewart Cursed Him Out During Race Debate

On August 6, Jon Stewart’s tenure as host of The Daily Show will come to an end. Though a comic by trade, over the past 16 years, Stewart has become one of the most trusted names in news, and when he announced his retirement back in February, it came as a shock to many left-leaning comedy fans and political junkies. While Stewart’s time on The Daily Show may have earned him the undying respect of his peers and a place among the most beloved American humorists in recent history, his reputation took a major hit yesterday as a result of comments made by former costar Wyatt Cenac. Appearing on Marc Maron’s WTF Podcast, Cenac stated that he initially idolized Stewart and viewed him as something of a father figure.  That all changed once the two of them began working together. It seems that at one point, Cenac expressed his discomfort with the racial undertones in Stewart’s impersonation of then-presidential candidate Herman Cain. According to Cenac, Stewart was decidedly unhappy with the criticism: “[Stewart] got incredibly defensive,” Cenac said “I remember he was like, ‘What are you trying to say? There’s a tone in your voice.’ I was like, ‘There’s no tone. It bothered me.'” “And he stood up and he was just like, “Fuck off. I’m done with you.” And he just started screaming that to me. And he screamed it a few times. “Fuck off! I’m done with you.” And he stormed out. And I didn’t know if I had been fired.” It turns out Cenac was not fired, but his working relationship with Stewart was forever damaged: “I was shaking, and I just sat there by myself on the bleachers and f–king cried,” Cenac told Maron “And it’s a sad thing. That’s how I feel. That’s how I feel in this job. I feel alone.” Yet another indication that you should never meet – let alone work for – your idols. Trevor Noah will take over for Stewart on September 28.
