Jesus Take The Wheel: Dallas Cowboys’ Player Killed In Car Crash, Teammate Responsible For Death And Charged With Intoxication Manslaugter

Seriously, something has got to give with these athletes. According to NBC Sports: Dallas Cowboys practice-squad linebacker Jerry Brown was killed in a one-car accident Saturday and teammate Josh Brent was charged with intoxication manslaughter. Irving police spokesman John Argumaniz said the accident happened about 2:20 a.m. Saturday in the Dallas suburb. Brent was speeding when the vehicle hit a curb and flipped at least once, Argumaniz said. Argumaniz said the 25-year-old Brown – also Brent’s teammate at the University of Illinois for three seasons – was found unresponsive at the scene and pronounced dead at a hospital. The police spokesman said officers conducted a field sobriety test on Brent and arrested him. The charge was upgraded after Brown was pronounced dead. “We are deeply saddened by the news of this accident and the passing of Jerry Brown,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said in a statement. “At this time, our hearts and prayers and deepest sympathies are with the members of Jerry’s family and all of those who knew him and loved him.” The team said in a statement that Brent was not on the team flight to Cincinnati, where the Cowboys play the Bengals on Sunday. Argumaniz said Brent was being held without bond. Brent is named as Joshua Price-Brent in the police news release. Argumaniz also said Brent missed a 10 a.m. Saturday booking session with a judge because he was intoxicated. He did not know if Brent had an attorney. The Cowboys signed Brown to their practice squad Oct. 24, but he hasn’t been on the active roster. He was released from the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad Oct. 20. “On behalf of the entire Colts family, our sincerest condolences go out to Jerry’s family and friends, Colts general manager Ryan Grigson said in a statement. “He was a good teammate that was well liked by all. Today’s tragic news is just another reminder of how fragile life is and how everyday given is a gift.” Brown played for San Antonio in the Arena Football League this year. In 2011, he played for Jacksonville in the AFL and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Canadian Football League. Wow. Extremely sad. R.I.P.

Lawbreakers, Unite: After NYFCC Awards, Is Matthew McConaughey An Oscar Contender?

All right, all right, all right. Awards season has officially gotten down in the dirt with a little bit of glorious stank. The New York Film Critics Circle , an august body despite three years of madness under Armond White’s leadership, has named Matthew McConaughey the year’s best supporting actor for his work in both Magic Mike and Bernie . With this double-gun recognition, my guess is that the group felt this was a salute to McConaughey’s leading performance in Killer Joe , and all the forced fried chicken-sucking it included, too. It’s quite a comeback. For years McConaughey served merely two purposes: appearing in dreadful rom coms like Failure to Launch and having a last name that drove copyeditors crazy. But we knew – we knew that beneath the skin of that shirtless Texan beat the heart of a courageous and unpredictable performer who could, when given a chance, deliver. I don’t know a single person who hasn’t been itching for an excuse to love this guy again. McConaughey’s turn as Dallas , the “Den Father,” I guess you could call him, of the strippers in Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike , is now a genuine contender for the Golden Globes and the Oscars . (No diss to Bernie , but Magic Mike was a bonafide box office hit, has Warner Bros. behind it and, you know, ass chaps.) Plus he’s already gotten a nomination for it and Killer Joe at the Spirit Awards in the bag. Our suggestion to M-McC: just keep livin’. The rest of the world is now hip to how awesome you can be. Of course, not everyone can recognize greatness when they see it. A sampling on Twitter shows jubilant critics (someone pass CinemaBlend’s Katey Rich some smelling salts) but more than one wiesenheimer suggests that a McConaughey win for his acting prowess is actually part of the Mayan’s countdown to extinction. What do you make of the McConaughey NYFCC win? Will he gyrate his way into the Oscar race now? Follow Jordan Hoffman on Twitter . Follow Movieline on Twitter .

Zig Ziglar Dies; Motivational Speaker Was 86

Zig Ziglar, a motivational speaker who wrote more than 30 books on living a balanced life, and who built a huge following over his long life, has died in Texas. He was 86. Ziglar, who had been suffering from pneumonia, passed away Wednesday at a hospital in the Dallas suburb of Plano, said his assistant, Jay Hellwig. With an aim at helping people achieve success in both their careers and personal lives, in addition to a focus on Christianity, Ziglar was a prolific speaker. He appeared at events alongside world leaders over the years, including several U.S. presidents and former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. “Mr. Ziglar was the same guy behind the closed doors as he was preparing for his presentations to thousands of people that he was when sitting at the kitchen table,” Hellwig said. Ziglar started his fulltime career in motivational speaking when he was in his 40s. His first book, “See You at the Top,” was published in 1975, when he was 49. “He got saved at the age of 42, which means that he accepted Jesus Christ as his savior,” Hellwig said. “Ever since that day is what he said was the turning point of his life.” “The last 41 years of his life he lived fully with that as his mission. He also had the uncanny ability to make everyone he ran into feel like they were his friend.” A World War II veteran from Yazoo City, Miss., he went to work in sales for a series of companies, where his interest in motivational speaking grew. Ziglar’s company, which features more than a dozen speakers advocating the “Ziglar Way” in his vein, offers motivation and performance training. One of his many well-known books, “Confessions of a Grieving Christian,” was written after the 1995 death of his oldest daughter, Suzan, at the age of 46. Another daughter, Julie Ziglar Norman, co-wrote “Embrace the Struggle,” a book that described how his life changed after he suffered a brain injury 2007. In addition to his daughter, Ziglar is survived by his wife Jean, with whom he celebrated 66 years of marriage Monday; his son, Tom Ziglar; and daughter Cindy Oates.

Kristen Stewart to Wreck Another Marriage?!?

Consider yourself warned, Jennifer Garner. With Kristen Stewart rumored to appear in an upcoming movie ( Focus ) alongside Ben Affleck, the latest issue of In Touch Weekly wonders if the actress will wreck yet another marriage. After all, she nearly did so with Rupert Sanders and Liberty Ross. “This has all the makings of a disaster,” an insider says tells the tabloid of Stewart’s possible casting. “Kristen’s a vixen and has been warned by her team not to screw up again. But things happen.” It’s true, people. Things do happen. Fortunately, Garner can take solace: Stewart and Robert Pattinson are back together. So even when Kristen clearly hooks up with Affleck, it doesn’t mean that union has to end!

Larry Hagman Dies; Dallas Star was 81

Larry Hagman, a veteran actor best known for his role as J.R. Ewing on Dallas , has passed away. He was 81. The star created the role on the original series and reprised it last year when TNT rebooted the popular drama. He announced in the summer of 2011 that he was being treated for cancer, and then followed that up a few months ago by telling the world he was in “remission.” But he lost his battle yesterday at Medical City Dallas. Said Warner Bros. TV and Dallas executive producers Cynthia Cidre and Michael M. Robin in a joint statement: Hagman was “a giant, a larger-than-life personality whose iconic performance as J.R. Ewing will endure as one of the most indelible in entertainment history. He truly loved portraying this globally recognized character, and he leaves a legacy of entertainment, generosity and grace.” He is survived by his wife of 58 years; two kids; and five grandchildren. Our thoughts go out to Hagman’s loved ones.

My name is Cameron, I’m 13, I live in Texas, and I met Justin…

My name is Cameron, I’m 13, I live in Texas, and I met Justin Drew Bieber on October 29, 2012 at 4:30 PM. I never imagined I would be writing my very own Bieber experience. I always read stories of beliebers meeting Justin – just praying it would be me one day. I had been saving up money for meet & greet tickets since the day Justin announced his Believe tour. I thought I had finally gotten enough money, then I realized just how expensive they were. My heart dropped, when I realized that I wouldn’t get to meet my idol. In mid-September, I was on the BieberFever website, (which I’m a fan club member of) and saw the post titled “Rules and deadlines for meet and greet contest.” I scrolled down the page to find out that there was a contest for Dallas which is where I live! I was freaking out. It said that all I had to do was email them a picture of my Bieber collection, so I did just that. It took me about an hour and a half to set up everything I had of Justin. After sending them my picture, I anxiously waited for a week, for the email announcement of who had won. They was going to be 10 winners per city. Around 9:30 the night before the concert, I checked my email one last time before I went to bed, and to my surprise there was an email from BieberFever that said I won! I was soooooooooo excited I started crying and freaking out so much. The next day, my mom picked me up from school at 11:30 AM and she took me to go get my hair done. We then went home and got ready for the meet & greet. The time finally came for the meet & greet, I was so nervous that I was shaking, I had butterflies, and the palms of my hands were so sweaty. I remember seeing Justin zoom by on his segway right before I met him. I saw him go into the black box made up of curtains, which is where the meetings took place. My older brother walked in before me. Justin reached out his hand to my brother and said, “Hi nice to meet you, I’m Justin Bieber.” My brother, being a secret belieber, couldn’t think of anything better to say than, “I know…” I walked in next and told myself to keep calm, but I knew that was impossible. The minute I saw Justin standing there looking at me, I completely froze. I was speechless. Justin then said, “Hey! Come stand on the other side of me so we can take the picture!” I nodded my head yes and walked over by his side. I remember thinking he was the skinniest guy I had ever met. I was shocking. He was SO sweet and gave me a huge hug. As we took the picture, I couldn’t even bring myself to believe that I was putting my arm around JB. As you can see in the picture, my arm is around his back. He also smelt AMAZING. I was very fortunate because Justin happened to be wearing a white tank top. Very very very cute on him. I then asked him to sign his book that I brought, and he said of course. I can’t even believe that this even happened. I’m still in shock even a week later. I’m so thankful for everyone who has helped me get to do this, including all the amazing beliebers who have supported me. I thank God every night for that experience. Justin truly is an amazing guy in person and in everything he does. I’m so proud to call him my idol. Once a Belieber, always a belieber. Beliebing 2007-forever. -@thtbeliebergirl  View original post here: My name is Cameron, I’m 13, I live in Texas, and I met Justin…

Let me start off  by saying I never thought I’d be writing a My…

Let me start off  by saying I never thought I’d be writing a My Bieber Experience, and let me also say I am so thankful that I am now able to! My friend and I bought tickets in May 2012 for the Believe Tour in Louisville, on Nov 2, 2012.  We bought a VIP package (without M&G) so we had great seats. I was so happy and thankful for that opportunity, I was SURE they’d sell out! Then we found out about the contest on bieberfever.com, so we decided to enter.  We never imagined we’d win, but the day before the show we got an email saying we won meet and greet passes! I was shaking and screaming running around my house, calling everyone I knew! The rest of the night I kept saying, “Is this real life?” and randomly screaming because I still couldn’t register the fact that I was meeting Justin Bieber.  My mom was so annoyed. So the day of the concert we got to the arena, got our wristbands, and made our way inside for the M&G. My friend spotted Kenny so I yelled, “Hey Kenny! You follow me on Twitter!” and waved like a fool.  He nodded and smiled back.  We then waited in the line for the M&G, which went fairly fast and Dan Kanter came out during it but I didn’t get a picture, but I did say hi and he asked if we were excited for the show.  Finally it was OUR turn! We were in groups of 6, and my friend and I ended up being stuck on the end but that’s okay. When Kenny opened the curtain he remembered me and asked for a high five and asked me my name. Then I handed Fredo two letters from my friends (@AmaniforSPCA and @BlessKidrauhl). He later tweeted them after reading the letters…yay! We took the picture, and while walking out I was the last one.  I kind of just stared at Justin because I was in shock, like, he’s real, he’s two feet from me. He looked so sad which made me sad. I smiled like an idiot and waved and he smiled and waved back and said “I hope you enjoy the show!” and I replied, “OH I will!” and he said, “Oh I KNOW you will!” and I felt like he was flirting with me haha maybe not but a girl can dream, right? I couldn’t believe Justin Bieber just spoke to me to me! I screamed when we walked outside and was so sad it was over so fast.   While we were waiting in out seats for the show tos start, I DMed Kenny on Twitter. He responded to me the next night, Saturday . I was in shock at that, too but so happy! Then the concert came. We were 11 th row from the stage. I saw Grandpa Bruce and took pics of him, and I saw Grandma Diane and took her pic. Fredo and Allison walked by a few times to find the OLLG.  Eventually Kenny came out and stood with Bruce to watch Justin.  I waved at Kenny and he smiled and waved back, he remembered me! Later on, Fredo was standing over there too, and I smiled and waved at him and he smiled and nodded. Nick Demoura walked by me and I smiled and waved, once again, and he nodded and smiled.  I felt kind of like a crazy person waving and smiling to the team any chance I got but I knew it was my only opportunity to do it, so I may as well look crazy than regret NOT saying hi to them. It was one of the best days/nights of my entire life. I will never forget how I felt, all thanks to Justin and his music, and Justin’s amazing team.  It is so cliché but TRULY, Never Say Never, because it could happen to you.  I had to wait a couple years but my opportunity arose, and it was nothing short of amazing! @lyssxx0 Follow this link: Let me start off  by saying I never thought I’d be writing a My…

Lauryn Hill Goes In On Wyclef For Putting Their Business Out In The Streets -”It’s Called The High Road, Try Taking it Sometimes”

Lauryn Hill Addresses Wyclef Rumors During Concert In Dallas Hip-hop industry veteran turned speedo sporting savage Wyclef must have struck a nerve when he put his former fellow Fugees bandmate Lauryn Hill on blast alleging a past relationship and claiming that she lied to him about her son Zion being his baby. Lauryn recently took the stage at a concert in Dallas, TX and addressed all of the “chatter” going around about her. “Be careful how you judge. There’s a lotta deception out there…a lot of misunderstanding out there….a lot of miscommunication out there. A lot of false information out there. And know this, after all the people who just talk, talk, talk..who’s the silent one? (points to herself). And Let me tell you why I don’t chat back. Because I know that my brothers and my sisters are often times pawns in a bigger scheme so when they, under pressure, attack me, I love them still. It’s called the high road. Try taking it sometimes.” Peep Lauryn’s entire rant in the video below and she which side of the story you believe. YouTube
