Damon Lindelof Writes the Sequel to Armageddon You’ll Wish Was Real

Radio silence be damned ! While his fellow co-executive producer Carlton Cuse travels around Europe like some post-college English major, Damon Lindelof has put pen to paper — or fingers to keyboard — on what could be the greatest piece of writing he’s ever done. And yes, I am including Crossing Jordan in that statement. The Lost showrunner took time out from his busy schedule of tweaking the Star Trek 2 screenplay — I’m assuming — to offer up advice on how to stop the disastrous BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Because, if it’s good enough for Kevin Costner and James Cameron, it’s good enough for Damon. What does he have in mind? Well, it all starts with Billy Bob Thornton.

The Lost DVD Epilogue Will Answer All Your Walt and Food-Drop Questions

Still scratching your head over Lost despite our attempt to tie up almost 100 of the show’s loose ends ? You’re in luck, as the previously announced DVD epilogue is going to have a lot more to it then just showing what happened on the island after Hurley and Ben were in charge. In fact, it sounds like this extra bit of bonus content is actually a subtle mea culpa for executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse and a way to provide some of the answers that the actual show never gave.

Matthew Weiner Finds New Ways to Reveal Nothing About Mad Men

If only Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse were a little bit more like Matthew Weiner, then maybe the reaction to the Lost series finale would have been different. To wit: Darlton spent so much time building up expectations, that when certain aspects weren’t given satisfactory resolutions (see: infertility on the island), fans became enraged. Meanwhile, Weiner is the exact opposite — he seems to delight in revealing as little about Mad Men as possible. So what does he have to say about the upcoming fourth season?

‘Lost’ DVD Set Will Feature Hurley/Ben Epilogue

Star Michael Emerson says bonus feature will show 12-14 minutes of the duo’s Island adventures. By Adam Rosenberg The cast of “Lost” Photo: ABC Hurley: “You know, you were a real good number two.” Ben: “And you were a great number one, Hugo.” This brief exchange between Hurley (Jorge Garcia) and Ben (Michael Emerson) in the final stretch of “Lost” series finale “The End” suggested that a lifetime of adventures unfolded for the Island duo before they eventually moved on and reunited with their friends in the pre-afterlife . And fans will actually get to glimpse those adventures when season six of “Lost” arrives on DVD and Blu-ray. “For those people that want to pony up and buy the complete ‘Lost’ series, there is a bonus feature — you could call it an epilogue, a lost scene,” Emerson said during an appearance on G4’s “Attack of the Show.” “It’s a lot, 12 or 14 minutes, that opens a window on that gap of unknown time between Hurley becoming number one and the end of the series.” The revelation was greeted with gasps of surprise from the studio audience. Additional answers had been promised for the “Lost” season six DVD release , but no details had been revealed before Emerson spoke. Asked if he regretted making the reveal, the actor replied with a smile, “I’m rolling over that in my mind.” The follow-up question, of course, is if this footage might hint at some kind of “Lost” spin-off, something that showrunners Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof have sworn time and again won’t happen — at least, not with them at the helm. “It’s self-contained,” Emerson replied. “Although it’s a rich period in the show’s mythology that has never been explored. So who knows what will come of it?” Do you think the adventures of Hurley and Ben would be enough for a whole new show? Sound off in the comments. Was 24’s Final Season Made Up As It Went Along?

Say what you will about Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, but at least they sorta had a plan. Oh sure, with a three-year jump on Lost going off the air, maybe they could have done a better job of explaining some of the series core mysteries — like, why the Smoke Monster was trapped in “Jacob’s Cabin” but also free to guard the temple and terrorize the 815 castaways, for instance — but on the whole, it seemed like they had at least thought things through. Not so for Howard Gordon though! The 24 executive producer spoke to EW following last night’s series finale, and his answers do little to retroactively inspire confidence in the 24 creative process. To put it another way: There’s a good chance this season was blocked out on a napkin.

‘Lost’ Fans Sound Off On Finale’s Unanswered Questions

‘Where did Walt go? Where’s Aaron?,’ one ‘Lost’ die-hard asks. By Josh Wigler The cast of “Lost” Photo: ABC NEW YORK — While the “Lost” finale Sunday night certainly provided closure on several of the show’s main characters, it didn’t necessarily answer some of the burning questions that kept fans on the edge of their seats for the better part of six seasons. But what questions were fans hoping to have resolved? To find out, MTV News hit the streets of New York and spoke with “Lost” viewers about their lingering questions. Although she was mostly satisfied with the way “Lost” ended, Megan Betts revealed one line of questioning that could have used some clarification: “Where did Walt go? Where’s Aaron? What the heck was with the children on the island? That was the one thing that bothered me that was never really answered.” Many fans weren’t clear on the resolution of the sideways universe, an apparent afterlife of sorts where the souls of the “Lost” cast congregate after death. “They were playing the parallel universe next to the ‘Lost’ universe, so I was trying to figure out if something was going to happen. Are these worlds going to converge?” asked Vincent Perissi. “It left me wanting more. I wanted to find out what was still happening.” Other watchers were left wondering exactly what the island is and what it represents. “I always thought the island was kind of a testing facility,” posited Derek Hagerty. “That’s what I’m going to stick with.” “As sad as I am to say it, what initially everyone who watched the show seven years ago thought a sort of purgatory,” Jenny Hank offered of her own theory. For certain fans, the ultimate significance of the island isn’t particularly important to how the series wrapped up. In fact, some “Lost” enthusiasts felt that the finale resolved all of the show’s most important questions. “There will always be questions and there will always be things they didn’t answer,” argued Mike Cayhurst. “But then again, there are things in everything that never get answered.” But for the fans who are still left wanting answers, don’t lose hope: executive producers and show runners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse have promised that an upcoming “Lost” DVD bonus feature would resolve many of the show’s dangling threads. Of course, that leads to yet another burning question: can you wait until August for the DVD’s release? ‘Lost’ Finale: Jessica Simpson, Sarah Silverman Admit Shedding Tears

Lauren Conrad, Dominic Monaghan, Conan O’Brien weigh in on show’s long-awaited finale. By MTV News Staff The cast of “Lost” Photo: ABC There were things going on in the world on Sunday night apart from the “Lost” series finale . Bret Michaels won on “Celebrity Apprentice,” “Shrek Forever After” topped the box office, and the Mets and Yankees faced off at Citi Field. But for many people, the only thing worth discussing is “Lost.” Celebs from Jessica Simpson and Lauren Conrad to Neil Patrick Harris and Sarah Silverman were tuned in for the “Lost” extravaganza and tweeting about it the whole time. “Powerful ending of ‘Lost,’ ” Jessica Simpson tweeted . “Wow. Incredibly beautiful! Cried so many times in the last 5hrs of ABC LOST TV!” Lauren Conrad tweeted , “Who’s watching the ‘Lost’ finale? It’s like X-mas. You can’t wait for it to finally be here, but u don’t want it to be over!” That’s exactly how “Lost” star Dominic Monaghan was feeling about the show. “Sad to say goodbye to ‘LOST,’ but hoping fans have enjoyed the adventure,” he wrote. Neil Patrick Harris certainly enjoyed the ride. “I haven’t read the reviews, don’t know the consensus. But I watched the @LOST finale last night, and I loved it! Bravo cast/crew/creators!” “Twilight” saga co-star Chaske Spencer agreed with the sentiment, and started to mourn a future without the mysterious island in his life. “I can’t believe LOST is over!” he wrote. Christopher Mintz-Plasse took in the Celtics-Magic basketball game earlier in the evening — “I am going to go get my Rondo on, so no one ruin the last Lost for me!!! I will watch it tomorrow. Holy b—s, it is almost done,” he wrote — but caught up with the action later. “Craziness. ‘Lost’ finale. Well done,” he wrote later, adding, “I feel a little incomplete knowing I won’t be watching anymore new ‘Lost’ episodes. Man, that finale was a little too touching.” How to battle those “Lost” blues? Series exec producer Damon Lindelof has some ideas. “Remember,” he said. “Let go. Move on. I will miss it more than I can ever say.” Sarah Silverman , meanwhile, had some kind word for Lindelof and his team. “I can’t tell if I’m crying because it was beautiful or because I’m sad it’s over,” wrote the comedian. “Thank you ‘LOST’ for 6 amazing years.” And then there were those celebs who hadn’t made the six-year “Lost” commitment. “Please don’t tell me how ‘Lost’ ended last night,” tweeted Conan O’Brien . “I’m up to the part where they discover a hatch.” What did you think of the finale? What Was Cut From the Lost Finale?

Though ABC aired the Lost series finale last night as a two-and-a-half-hour event, there were still scenes, lines, and moments from the first cut that may not have made it on the air. (All the more time to sell to Target!) Using promotional photos, paparazzi pictures, and some post-finale reflections from those in the know, we’ve found four items of interest that may have fallen on the editing room floor:

‘Lost’ In The Afterlife: Big Questions Answered In Series Finale

In typical ‘Lost’ fashion, some show mysteries remain open for debate. By Adam Rosenberg ‘Lost’ finale Photo: ABC After six seasons, one writers strike and countless unanswered questions, television sensation “Lost” has finally reached its conclusion. The story that began in 2004 with a plane crash and a tropical island received a fitting send-off from show-runners Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof in a two-and-a-half hour series finale. Mysteries remain, but major plot revelations in tonight’s episode offer a satisfying explanation as to exactly what happened to the passengers aboard Oceanic flight 815. Needless to say, spoilers ahead. Let’s get it out of the way right up front: The big twist is that everybody was dead. “Everybody” meaning the key players. Exactly who those players are remains open for debate, and will likely continue to be one of the show’s most enduring mysteries. An exchange between Jack and his father in the closing minutes of the finale reveals that a gathering of memory-restored Oceanic “survivors” have in fact been running through an elaborate fantasy, one designed to bring their group together before they step over to the afterlife. The major question that remains is when during the run of the show that break between life and death occurred. Life could have ended for the Oceanic passengers as far back as the pilot episode. The plane crashes, everybody dies, but this group is left behind because of unresolved issues within their individual lives. The trials they go through surviving on the island serve as a sort of purgatory. This would render certain key figures — Jacob, the Man in Black, Richard Alpert — as utter fabrications. That’s just one theory. Another read could put the time of death for Oceanic 815’s survivors as the hydrogen bomb blast at the end of the show’s fifth season, which raises a whole new set of questions as to the nature of certain supporting characters. The beauty of “Lost,” a trait that holds true even as it eases into its afterlife, is that the story demands discussion while remaining open to interpretation. Congratulations from MTV News to Carlton Cuse, Damon Lindelof, J.J. Abrams, and the talented cast and crew responsible for delivering six years of some of the most thought-provoking television on offer. “Lost” will be missed. What did you think of the “Lost” finale?
