Earlier in the year, there was talk that ‘Jersey Shore’ star, Pauly D, would be signing to G-Unit Records. 50 Cent and the reality star made it official recently. 50 signed Pauly D to his dance and pop music imprint, G-Note Records. Describing Pauly D smart and creative, 50 Cent said he’s a “great addition to G-Note and [the] G-Unit family.” Pauly D is the first ‘Jersey Shore’ cast member to land a record deal and is also the first cast member to get his own spinoff show. Pauly D’s solo reality show will follow the DJ as he spins at celebrity parties and industry events and is scheduled to air sometime in 2012. For now, Pauly is finishing up a residency at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. Some might remember he opened for Britney Spears on her Femme Fatale tour. It’s amazing what getting drunk and fighting on national television can get you these days. Check out AOL TV for more on the story. Gaga opens and closes the show, with an assist from country duo Sugarland. By James Montgomery Lady Gaga opens the “Grammy Nominations Concert Live!!” Photo: Lester Cohen/ WireImage Anyone who has ever seen Lady Gaga is aware that she knows how to work a look. And on Wednesday’s (November 30) “Grammy Nominations Concert Live!!,” she worked two of them, both about as different as could be. As she announced earlier, Gaga served as both the opening and closing act during the telecast, and, of course, those two roles required two totally different sides of the Mother Monster. She started things off with a steampunk -y version of “Marry the Night,” opening the song on a stage littered with smoking pipes and scattered bits of scrap metal. Her face done up like a skeleton (or perhaps Zombie Boy ?), wearing a black cloak, she solemnly sang the song’s opening lines, as a group of gothed-up dancers cavorted around her. Take a closer look at this year’s Grammy nominees through photos! As the beat kicked in, she shed her cloak (revealing a sport coat, matching underwear set and, of course, thigh-high boots) and hit the harmonies hard, while guitars wailed and those dancers posed and popped. Then the whole thing gave way to a particularly fierce dance segment, which brought the performance to a close and earned a standing ovation from the industry-heavy crowd (David Guetta seemed particularly pumped, it should be noted). And after the nominations were revealed, Gaga was back to wrap things up, and she did so in true Grammy style, joined onstage by country duo Sugarland for a husky, musky version of “Yo
Adele, Foo Fighters and Bruno Mars tie for six nods each, just falling short of West’s seven nominations. By Kelley L. Carter Kanye West (file) Photo: Getty Images For the second year in a row, a hip-hop artist is leading the pack in Grammy nominations. Although his name was only called for one category during Wednesday’s (November 30) “Grammy Nominations Concert Live!!,” Kanye West walked away with a leading seven nods, following the hip-hop trend set by last year’s leading nominee, Eminem . He’s nominated for his Watch the Throne joint album with Jay-Z and also picked up a few nominations — including Song of the Year — for his powerhouse collaborative track “All of the Lights,” which features Rihanna, Fergie and Kid Cudi. He’s even nominated against himself, with Watch the Throne and his own My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy nabbing Rap Album of the Year nods. West was followed by this year’s critical darling, Adele , who is tied with the Foo Fighters and Bruno Mars for six nods each. Lil Wayne and dance-music breakout Skrillex each garnered five nods. While the Grammys have a reputation for catering to an older demographic (Robert Plant and Alison Krauss for 2009 Album of the Year, anyone?), this year’s nominees are notably young, with 34-year-old West looking downright geriatric next to fellow nominees Adele (23), Rihanna (23), Lady Gaga (25) and Bruno Mars (26). …Especially afterwards, when he went home and pumped his shotgun. Anyway, you may have heard about Marine Corps Sgt. Scott Moore , a serviceman who, while on active duty in Afghanistan, asked Mila Kunis to be his date for the annual Marine Corps Ball in a much-hyped viral video . Mila accepted, and this past weekend proved herself to be a woman of her word by traveling to North Carolina to accompany Sgt. Moore to the dance. Mila has shunned publicity for the event, instead letting Sgt. Moore take the spotlight to talk about the date and the fallen service members that were honored at the ball. Here’s what he had to say about the star on Good Morning America and Today: “It was a blast, it was a great time. So yes, it exceeded my expectations,” he said. Sgt. Moore picked up Mila at 5:30 pm to take her to the ball, where they spent the evening dining, dancing, and hanging out with Moore’s friends from his unit. Moore said Mila was “down-to-earth” and very interested in the uniforms and ceremonies of the Marine Corps, and that he enjoyed “introducing her to the families [so] she could really see the sacrifice a lot of my guys made.” When asked why Mila and not some other starlet, Moore said: “We actually talked about this. I’ve seen a couple of her movies and she’s obviously a pretty girl so…I thought she’d be fun so I picked her.” Service your member with sexy pics of Mila Kunis after the jump!

J.R. Martinez and Ricki Lake have been swapping the first place spot all season on Dancing With the Stars. Last night, it was definitely the latter’s turn on top. While he’s never one to complain (look at all he’s been through in life), J.R. rolled his right ankle in rehearsal and then twisted it again during his routines. The famous smile that lights up the dance floor was barely there Monday, replaced by grimaces of pain and looks of disappointment. His posture was off. J.R. and Karina Smirnoff did manage to turn in a sexy Argentine tango to make up for a subpar Paso Doble, but it’ll be up to fans to carry him through. Can J.R. earn a spot in next week’s DWTS finals after an off week that saw him finish a distant third? Watch his performances and see what you think … J.R. ‘It’s shocking and it’s not,’ one music writer tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: WireImage After spending nearly her entire career working with Laurieann Gibson , Lady Gaga confirmed Monday (November 14) that she and her creative director had decided to part ways. It was a move that may have been surprising to Gaga’s Little Monsters, considering how closely the two have created some of the Mother Monster’s most memorable visuals, but did the split surprise music-industry observers? “On the one hand, I get why [they split], because it seems like Laurieann’s been doing a lot outside of the Gaga universe,” Entertainment Weekly ‘s Kyle Anderson told MTV News, referring to Gibson’s starring roles on the BET dance competition show “Born to Dance” and another dance reality series, E!’s “The Dance Scene.” “On the other hand, it’s a little bit strange, because Gaga’s circle of people is so small, and all those people have been with her since pretty much the duration. She’s really, really loyal, so it’s a little bit strange to me, because I think she has this circle of people she trusts with her work.” Who should be Gaga’s next choreographer? Let us know in the Newsroom! As a key member of the Haus of Gaga, Gibson was never afraid to share her honest opinion about Gaga’s work. Most notably, she spoke out publicly against Gaga’s Jo Calderone performance at the VMAs , as well as her Nick Knight-directed “Born This Way” clip . That unbridled honesty could be behind the Gaga/Gibson split, according to Us Weekly senior music editor Ian Drew. “It’s shocking and it’s not,” Drew told MTV News. “They were extremely close, and she let Laurieann have an unprecedented amount of control in her camp. Let’s face it: Laurieann is very headstrong, never holds back what she thinks, and that tends to rub people the wrong way. I’m not totally surprised; it was only a matter of time. “Look, I love Laurieann, and as a journalist, she’s an interviewer’s dream, because you’d catch her and she’d always just say what was going on,” he added. “Laurieann would just say it. She would give you that perfect sound bite. She tended to be a little bit loose-lipped. But on the other hand, I can see why that maybe ruffled Gaga’s feathers, because Gaga’s all about the performance piece and not giving away too much. Laurieann really liked to take credit — not that that was bad, [and] maybe it was due, but maybe Gaga didn’t want everyone knowing that. In the end, I do tend to think it was something to do with creative differences.” The big question is how the duo’s severed partnership will impact Gaga’s future endeavors. Will Little Monsters notice Gibson’s absence? “It always puts a really, really heavy focus on whatever the next project is,” Anderson explained. “With stars like these, people become curious to know: ‘Well how much do these individual cogs play into what we see in front of us?’ These two have been together [for years], so we don’t yet know what Gaga is like without her. So we don’t know exactly what part of that personality plays into her projects.” What do you think about Gaga and Laurieann’s split? Let us know on Facebook. New clip is a tribute to artist Raymond Pettibon, who helped shape the L.A. punk scene the band grew up in. By James Montgomery Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Anthony Kiedis Photo: Sean Gardner/ Getty Images When I first interviewed the Red Hot Chili Peppers back in June, frontman Anthony Kiedis made it a point to wear his now-ubiquitous OFF! cap (the same one he’d wear in their “Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie” video ), a tribute to the punk supergroup made up of members of Black Flag, Red Kross and Rocket From the Crypt, to name just a few. The reason I mention that now is because the Peppers just premiered the video for “Monarchy of Roses,” the second single from their I’m With You album, a stark, surging, (mostly) black-and-white thing very much indebted to the work of artist Raymond Pettibon, who made his mark designing album covers, logos and flyers for Black Flag, SST Records and just about anyone else associated with the L.A. punk scene of the late ’70s/early ’80s. So, in a way, months before “Roses,” Kiedis was already tipping his, uh, cap to Pettibon. Shoot, he even mentions the artist in the lyrics to the song, which makes the clip — directed by Marc Klasfeld — even more fitting. And when you consider the fact that the Peppers basically grew up in the scene Pettibon helped shape (they caught an early break thanks to impresario Brendan Mullen , who booked them at his infamous Club Lingerie), you realize that this video has actually been a in the works for a very long time indeed. While it might not be as flashy or instantly memorable as some of the band’s other clips, it fits both the grit of the song — and the Peppers’ entire legacy — perfectly. Pettibon’s bludgeoning black-and-white images, which he often matches with harrowing texts taken from popular culture, art criticism and commercials, are a true combination of the sacred and the profane, and you could reasonably argue by that logic alone that they’ve been inspiring Kiedis’ lyrics for years now. The argument could also be made that, by sheer will alone, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have finally earned the right to be considered right alongside bands like Black Flag (and artists like Pettibon) in the pantheons of Left Coast rock, punk or otherwise. Which adds a whole new wrinkle to the “Roses” video, really: It may be their coronation, though I am reasonably sure they did not intend it to be. They’re too humble. And always paying tribute, to Mullen (on the I’m With You track “Brendan’s Death Song”), to their punk forefathers (Kiedis’ OFF! cap) and, really, to the artist who managed to inject iconography into the whole thing. That he did it in such a stark, shocking way was a testament to the music and the ethos of the era, and as “Roses” proves, it’s a solid fit for the Peppers too. After all, like Petibon’s work, they know a thing or two about bleak times. And they’ve never been afraid to get a little bloody, either. What do you think of the video? Let us know in the comments!
