Kristin Cavallari Heats Up Dancing With the Stars

Former MTV bad girl Kristin Cavallari ( Laguna Beach, The Hills ) says the opportunity to go Dancing With the Stars came along at the perfect time in her life, allowing her to turn the corner after her broken engagement to Jay Cutler . It seems like she’s off to a good start. “You have the body to ballroom-dance, girlfriend! You looked great,” judge Carrie Ann Inaba said. “I want to watch you dance more and more. You shine. You sparkle.” Kristin Cavallari & Mark Ballas – Cha Cha (DWTS Week 1) “It was a very good cha-cha, and it’s hard to keep up with Mark,” Inaba added. “He gives you very challenging choreography, and you have to keep up with him.” Kristin scored a 19 last night, landing her in the middle of the pack, but she even won praise from hard-to-please Len. Hornball Bruno? That was a given. “You know I love a bad girl; a bad girl with hot hips. I know you’ve got the full package to give that action,” he said. Agree? How do you think Kristin did?

Dolores Hopes Passes Away at 102

Dolores Hope, the vibrant and talented wife of the late Bob Hope, has passed away. She was a staggering 102 and had been in good health until very recently. She died peacefully Monday morning at her home in Toluca Lake, Calif. Born in the Bronx, Dolores was singing in a Manhattan club under the professional name Dolores Reade when newcomer Bob Hope, fresh off a performance in a Broadway show, walked into the club with the dancer George Murphy. Hearing Reade sing “It’s Only a Paper Moon,” Hope said to Murphy, “I’m going to marry her.” He did just that, on February 19, 1934. They raised four adopted children and remained in love until his death in 2003 at age 100. Dolores continued to sing throughout her life, and had received many humanitarian awards and had seven Honorary Doctorates over the years. R.I.P.

Dancing With the Stars Premiere Countdown: Security on High Alert For Chaz Bono Haters

Dancing With the Stars is set to kick off its 13th season in a matter of hours, and ABC is on high alert for “crazies” who have a thing against Chaz Bono. Given the surprising backlash against the transgendered star’s casting, network execs and producers are taking no chances for Monday night’s premiere. There have not been any credible, specific threats against Chaz Bono , TMZ reports, but the unprecedented level of hatred and controversy he’s generated are no joke. Until further notice, Chaz will be given extra security while he’s on the CBS Television City lot, where the show is filmed, and off the premises as well. This isn’t the first time DWTS has had to deal with security issues – there were several incidents with Bristol Palin – but it may be the most serious. It’s good to hear ABC will do whatever it takes to keep Chaz safe. Shielding the public from his bad dance moves, however, is a whole ‘nother story. What are your thoughts on Chaz going Dancing With the Stars? [Photo: WENN.com]

‘Dancing With The Stars’: Kristin Cavallari And Chaz Bono Impress

Chynna Phillips and J.R. Martinez tie for top score on season 13 premiere. By Kelley L. Carter Kristin Cavallari Photo: ABC Networks In a brand-new ballroom, the 13th season of “Dancing With the Stars” kicked off Monday night (September 19). The newest stars walked down a new, elegant series of stars to the ballroom and waved at the crowd in the ornate — and significantly larger — ballroom and shimmied as live singers hummed the reality-show competition’s now-familiar theme song. The mix of reality stars, athletes, actors, TV journalists and talk-show hosts took to the dance floor to attempt to impress the judges and legions of TV fans who will be tuning in to vote to keep them dancing week-after-week. To the scores! Ron Artest and Peta Murgatroyd A newly blond Artest (though we may soon be calling him Metta World Peace, the name he legally adopted last week) failed to impress the judges. “It’s a new season, we’ve got a new set, but it’s the same old shimmying-about stuff,” head judge Len Goodman told the Lakers star. “Your footwork was atrocious. It was all sizzle, no sausage. It was … not my cup of tea.” His comments were booed by the audience (Artest’s teammate Lamar Odom was in the audience with wife Khlo

Letter from Toronto: Michael Winterbottom Takes Hardy to India with Trishna (and More)

Michael Winterbottom makes so many movies that some of them creep into festivals very quietly and, just as quietly, creep out, never to be seen again. That wasn’t the case with The Trip , which played here last year, a woolly exploration of middle-aged angst that featured Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon (as themselves) bickering and trading Sean Connery impersonations as they made their way through the English countryside. But two years before that, in 2008, Winterbottom brought a picture called Genova to the festival, a mildly engaging drama in which Colin Firth plays a father who moves his family to Italy after the death of their mother. The picture never got a U.S. release, fading like the worn face of a stone saint on a medieval church.

Finally, the Real Reason That Ryan O’Neal Left Dancing with the Stars

Some of us were too excited about Ryan O’N eal competing on Dancing With the Stars , reenacting Love Story scenes using elements of jive, and wowing Bruno Tonioli with those ageless baby blues (browns?). Unfortunately, Mr. O’N eal claimed injury and dropped out of the show, and now Nancy Grace only has to out-hoof 11 other couples instead of 12. Boo. But a new report details a much different reason for O’N eal’s departure, and it may force us to give the Tatum-flrting actor a bit of credit.

Ben Affleck: What’s His Best Look?

Ben Affleck has proven himself as an actor and as a director. But what about as a bearded man and as a man who is cleanly shaven? That’s the question on tap for readers today, as the star is currently filming the movie Argo , which chronicles a life-and-death covert operation to rescue six Americans during the Iran hostage crises. Affleck’s role didn’t require him to shave. Lucky dog. Wish Affleck well with his impending third baby and then vote on his looks below:

Ricki Lake Injured on Dancing With the Stars Set

The headline above is, admittedly, a bit misleading. Ricki Lake suffered a cut and a nasty bruise on her shin Thursday while rehearsing for the new season of Dancing with the Stars with partner Derek Hough. She’s not out of the competition by any means, but she did Tweet a photo of the wound, so … here we are. Check out the season’s first battle scar: Lake, who said upon being cast that she was terrified to participate in the ABC show, is considered one of the favorites going in … or at least was. Who knows if this will throw her off her game. An ambulance was called, but Lake downplayed the situation, Tweeting: “Not sure how my bruise turned into a medic showing up? I’m fine!! :)” Later, she Tweeted at former DWTS star Kirstie Alley, who was a hit last season: “I’ve got my work cut out for me. Channeling ya’ mama. xo”. Who will win Dancing With the Stars , which begins September 19? Lake? Chaz Bono ? Kristin Cavallari? Vote in our survey after the jump …
