Newly-minted contender and fan favorite Rob Kardashian channeled Superman last night for his movie-themed paso doble routine on Dancing With the Stars. Bold move, likening one’s self to the Man of Steel. But Rob delivered. With Cheryl Burke as his Lois Lane, the judges were quite pleased … words that had never before been spoken about a Kardashian on this show. Sorry Kim. Bruno said it’s time for Rob “to leave Smallville and take on the world.” With the CW hit now a thing of the last, perhaps Roberto is ready to carry the mantle. His performance earned a solid 24 points, putting him in a tie for third behind only Ricki Lake and J.R. Martinez. Next closest competitor is war hero J.R. Martinez, who went from tears last week to a humorous dance. By Kelley L. Carter Ricki Lake and Derek Hough Photo: ABC It was movie night on Monday night’s “Dancing With the Stars,” and the celebrities and their dance partners were hoping their stories would be the box-office draw with the judges. Once again, former talk-show host Ricki Lake ended up on top of the board, earning this season’s first perfect 10 scores from two of the three judges. Here’s how everyone fared: Chynna Phillips and Tony Dovolani The couple danced the tango to the “Mission Impossible” theme song, and the judges noted the mistakes Phillips made in her routine. But they were merciful in their comments, saying that what she did right was beautiful and that she didn’t lose her composure. “The challenge is for the professional,” said head judge Len Goodman. “They’ve got to maintain the character of the dance but still show us a little bit of the flavor of the film. I thought you got it just about right. You lost it, you went wrong, you didn’t know where you were and you panicked. I’m sure had you nailed it, it was going to be great. Unfortunately, there were a lot of mistakes.” 21/30 David Arquette and Kym Johnson Dancing the paso doble to the “Raiders of the Lost Ark” theme song, Arquette and Johnson were hoping his background in Hollywood might give them the leg up. It did the trick: The judges thought he was in control and loved his attitude. “I love the way you crack your whip!” Bruno Tonioli said of Arquette’s Indiana Jones accessory. “Like an action hero! Ready to take us into a wild ride! Watch your turns.” 23/30 Carson Kressley and Anna Trebunskaya Kressley earned a standing ovation last week and impressed the judges. This week, he took on the Viennese waltz to the “Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl” theme song, and Goodman said it was like childbirth: terrible and then a joy when it is over. That said, he added that it was great fun, and if he were an at-home voter, he’d phone in for him. “I’m still recovering,” judge Carrie Ann Inaba said. “It was kind of like being on the ride. But weirder. I have to say this is your most butch performance you’ve ever done. I am addicted to your performances because I know I’m going to have a great time, but then I watch the technique … ” 20/30 Nancy Grace and Tristan MacManus The TV host took on the paso doble this week to a song from “Flash Gordon,” and the judges thought her routine lacked expression. “I can’t get excited about it. It was OK, but I can’t get excited about it,” Goodman said. 21/30 Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy The two danced the foxtrot to a tune from “Toy Story,” and the judges found the Olympian’s dance to be lovely. They thought their performance lit up the room and talked up the chemistry between the dancing couple. Goodman said he thought they could last until the end and win the whole thing. “It made me smile the whole way though,” Inaba added. “This show is about beating our expectations, and that was exactly that. It was so refreshing to see you out there having fun. Well done.” 24/30 Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke The reality star and his partner danced the paso doble to the “Superman” theme song, and they were hoping to capitalize on last week’s high note, when Goodman told Rob he put the “dash” in Kardashian). “I like the way you move,” Inaba said. “There is something about the way you move that is steady and just the way a man should be in the ballroom. You’re fluid. It all works. I love it. Today, you took it up a notch. It was spicy and had some Superman flavor going.” 24/30 Ricki Lake and Derek Hough Last week’s top finisher tangoed to a song from “Psycho,” and the talk-show host earned a standing ovation from the audience, which included celebrity attendees like Dr. Phil and Cher, mother of Chaz Bono. Inaba said her performance was “brilliance in the ballroom.” Brilliance, indeed. They earned a pair of perfect 10’s (from Tonioli and Inaba), the first of the season. “You … always deliver,” Goodman said, despite giving Ricki her only 9. “You’ve got to get a little bit more neck going. But I tell you what, top of the leaderboard, I think so.” 29/30 Chaz Bono and Lacey Schwimmer Bono and Schwimmer landed in the bottom of the leaderboard last week but hoped to change all that with the paso doble to the theme from “Rocky.” His mother seemed thrilled with his performance. The judges? They loved it too. Inaba cried and said Bono was an underdog and wanted to root for him. “Chaz, in the true spirit of ‘Rocky,’ no matter how many knocks you take, you keep coming back, you keep fighting, and you keep getting stronger,” Tonioli said. 21/30 J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff The war hero did the foxtrot to the “Pink Panther” theme. It was a whimsical way to chase last week’s emotional dance that had the judges (and nearly everyone in the audience) in tears. This week, the judges were mixed. Goodman crowned him the best male dancer and liked his tweak of humor and Tonioli liked his technique, but Inaba wasn’t all that impressed. “I thought it was OK,” she said to loud boos from the audience. “I love your frame. The technique is all there. But for some reason, this fell a little flat for me. I think it’s the humor. You didn’t need the humor. I think the humor didn’t quite make it tonight for me.” 26/30 Did you expect Ricki Lake to get the season’s first 10’s? Let us know in the comments! ESPN fired Hank Williams Jr. for likening President Obama to Hitler. Speaking of ESPN, their magazine features Hope Solo nude . Johnny Depp likened photo shoots to rape . Rape, people. Ashton Kutcher and Sara Leal totally, probably boned. Casey Anthony Jail Video: Reaction to Caylee Death This never-before-seen Casey Anthony jail video was released. This little girl became an online sensation. Disturbing, but fun. Sarah Palin is not running for President. Nor is Chris Christie. Herman Cain is running … his mouth. And for U.S. President. Speaking of running one’s mouth … watch this Diddy rant . Rachel Uchitel and Matt Hahn apparently tied the knot. There is apparently a Tupac sex tape out there. Nancy Grace Farts on Dancing With the Stars Man, Nancy Grace really needs to pull it together. See clip above. She’s still on the show, though. Kristin Cavallari cannot say that. Jacqueline Laurita apparently does not like Teresa Giudice. Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed finally got married! Is Jennifer Aniston pregnant ? It looks like … no way. They haven’t publicly said if they’re re-engaged or not, but Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler are definitely a couple again. The often-maligned Bears quarterback cheered her on in person last night on Dancing with the Stars! Jay and Kristin called off their wedding this summer after over a year of dating, but have apparently reconciled. Here’s her routine, which earned her 24 points: Kristin Cavallari on Dancing With the Stars (Week 3) Class move by Jay to support his former, and possibly future, fiancee. He probably won’t be criticized for quitting on his Chicago teammates this time, either. The Bears are coming off a 34-29 win over Carolina, evening their record at 2-2, and have an extra day off before taking on the Lions next Monday night. We’re guessing he won’t be watching Kristin live then, but it’s nice to see the couple back together and cheering on each other on TV or in person.
Monday’s Dancing With the Stars performances captured a critical year in the life of each participant. For J.R. Martinez , that year was 2003, when he was wounded in Iraq. For Chaz Bono, the most defining year has been this one. Bono said ’11 has been his most meaningful because “I’m happier than I’ve ever been,” then danced a rumba to a song that his father wrote, “Laugh at Me.” Its message: “If you have a problem with me, then it’s your problem, not mine.” Chaz Bono on Dancing With the Stars (Week 3) Unfortunately for the 42-year-old activist, who’s drawn both ire and support as the first transgendered contestant on Dancing With the Stars , his positive attitude, courage and charisma simply don’t translate to dancing skills. His score of 18 landed him in last place for the second straight week, three full points behind the next lowest total. Barring an upset, he’ll be out the door tonight. If so, he’ll do so what his held high. What more can one ask for?
Nancy Grace doesn’t hold back. The news pundit and Dancing With the Stars competitor was not among the many people lauding the Amanda Knox verdict yesterday. Grace’s thoughts on Knox’s conviction (in the 2007 slaying of Meredith Kercher) being overturned? “I think that it was a miscarriage of justice,” she said. Nancy Grace does not hold back when it comes to her favorite cash cows . “I only hope Ms. Knox makes something of her life because she’s certainly been given a second chance. Very few people are given the chance she has been given.” Knox, a University of Washington student who had been studying in Perugia, Italy, faced a sentence of 26 years in prison after being convicted of murder in 2009. Yesterday, an appeals court overturned the 24-year-old’s conviction. Grace did not directly link the Amanda Knox trial to that of another infamous case in which a young woman, Casey Anthony, was controversially cleared of murder. She didn’t have to. Grace famously said “the devil is dancing tonight” upon the release of Anthony, who she ripped frequently and derisively referred to as “Tot Mom.” Amanda Knox Verdict There are some parallels between the women, but unlike the Casey Anthony case, wasn’t Knox cleared, at least in part, because of an independent review of DNA evidence? Which made the case against her less incriminating? What do you think? Is Nancy on point? Off base? Running her yap for ratings? Should she just stick to Dancing With the Stars nipple slips and call it a day? You tell us: Amanda Knox is …
He’s been accused of abuse , he’s lost millions of dollars and he has a strange relationship with his daughter. And now Hulk Hogan is fighting back. In an interview with Good Morning America , the former WWE and WCW star responds to allegations made against him in a new memoir by his ex-wife, saying of Linda: “If I beat her up for 23 years, why didn’t we talk about this at the divorce? And why, all of a sudden, is it coming out now, when her book’s come out?” Hulk Hogan Good Morning America Interview Hogan – who is now married to Jennifer McDaniel and promoted a new reality show that focuses on the world of midget wrestling – also says he’s learned a valuable lesson over the recently-troubling years: “Be a father first. Don’t put a priority of being a friend with your wife first, or a friend with your kids first… That’s the one place I dropped the ball.”
Dancing With the Stars delivered a bit of a surprise last week with the ousting of Elisabetta Canalis after she performed relatively well. It all goes to show: No one is safe. Every week, you dance for your life. So far, Chaz Bono has gotten through on confidence and personality, while Canalis and Metta World Peace are watching this season on the couch. Who will be the third celeb voted off DWTS this fall? So far, J.R. Martinez, Ricki Lake, Chynna Phillips and Kristin Cavallari have looked good. Even Rob Kardashian has stepped up his game in a big way. Carson Kressley and Hope Solo have been entertaining, but could be at risk if they falter. David Arquette? He narrowly avoided elimination last week. It’ll take more than another Nancy Grace nipple slip to carry the news pundit through. Bono’s gonna have to show some real improvement as well. It’s impossible to tell from week to week, but right now, Nancy, Chaz, Hope, Carson and David look to be at greater risk than the other five dancers. What do yo think? Who will win Dancing With the Stars?
