Angliena Jolie Would ‘Love To’ Work With Tim Burton, Darren Aronofsky

The ‘Salt’ star tells MTV News she would ‘love to’ play evil Maleficent, be directed by Tim Burton, Darren Aronofsky. By Todd Gilchrist, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Angelina Jolie Photo: MTV News Angelina Jolie doesn’t make the press rounds often, so when the rare opportunity to speak to her does arise, you make the most of it. We grilled her for details about some of her upcoming projects. One of the rumored parts that seems exceptionally well-suited for the sultry star is the title role in “Maleficent” , a take on the “Sleeping Beauty” story told from the point of view of the slumbering princess’ nemesis. Asked whether she might be involved in the film — whose director’s chair may eventually be filled by “Alice in Wonderland” auteur Tim Burton — Jolie said she would definitely be interested. “I would love to,” Jolie told MTV News. “It’s all new and being discussed, but I loved her when I was a little girl. She was my favorite. Tim Burton, the chance to work with him would be extraordinary.” While we were on the topic of casting, Jolie opened up about Cleopatra , whom she’s been confirmed to play in a historical biopic. Jolie said a portrayal of the iconic Egyptian queen is long overdue, and she’s onboard as long as the circumstances are right. “I think if we can get the story right, and do the real story,” she said of a possible script. “I think there’s a lot about her that’s never been covered yet. So if we can do something original, we will.” Jolie’s name has also been attached to two other films: “Serena,” an adaptation of the Ron Rash novel to be directed by “The Wrestler” helmer Darren Aronofsky, and a cinematic portrayal of Kay Scarpetta, the protagonist in Patricia Cornwell’s best-selling book series. The actress didn’t seem to have much information about either feature, but prospects for “Serena” seemed to be a little more concrete. “We’ve talked about it, and I would love to work with Darren one day,” Jolie said, adding that the project itself was perhaps less important than her potential collaborator. “So if it’s not that, it will be something else. But I think he’s one of my favorites.” Scarpetta, on the other hand, seems further down the road. “I think they’re writing a script,” Jolie said. “It’s in development,” she laughed, acknowledging she was short on news. “It’s all very in development.” What role would you like to see Angelina Jolie tackle next?
