Courtney Love Tries To Ignore Billy Corgan’s ‘Spazzing’

‘I don’t feel like having the rock-star fight,’ she tells MTV News of Smashing Pumpkins frontman Twitter attack. By James Montgomery Courtney Love Photo: MTV News During her appearance earlier this week on the “Late Show With David Letterman,” Courtney Love made it abundantly clear that she’s a changed woman. Speaking frankly, Love opened up about her battles with drugs, her (very public) outbursts and her stints in rehab. It would appear that, along with a brand-new Hole album — the snarling-yet-strangely sensitive Nobody’s Daughter hit stores earlier this week — she also has a new outlook on life. As if to prove it, the singer is brushing aside online barbs lobbed at her by Billy Corgan. See, on the same day she appeared on Letterman’s show, Corgan — Love’s onetime flame and frequent collaborator — launched an all-out Twitter attack on her. Corgan accused her of stealing songs he wrote, advised her to “go … live off your husband’s money” and, to top it all, brought into the fray Love’s relationship with her daughter, Frances Bean Cobain , of whom she lost guardianship earlier this year. Had this happened just a year ago, Love probably would have raged mightily. Instead, she offered only a few, relatively demure Twitter replies and then moved on with her life. This is, after all, the new Courtney Love. “I don’t know what he’s spazzing about. It’s just so strange,” Love told MTV News on Thursday (April 29). “I’m trying to just be Teflon about it. … He did it last time [Love released an album, 2004’s solo America’s Sweetheart ]. and it’s nothing new, and it’s not an accident, I think, that he did it on the day of release [of Nobody’s Daughter ]. And then he went after the kid, and it was like, ‘Dude, man, that’s creepy.’ I just find that creepy. “He’s always been really obsessed with his place in the drama with Kurt [Cobain] and me, and yet, he doesn’t really have a place,” Love continued. “Even though I respect Billy sonically, and as a talent, Kurt didn’t. So when he titled a record Pisces Iscariot in the ’90s, it really cheesed me off. Because he was referring to his star sign and Kurt’s star sign and that he had somehow had something to do with something in our marriage, when our marriage, for what it was — very short and brief — [it was] pretty flawless.” Although she appeared to be finished, Love paused for a second and then went on about Corgan. This time, she got a few jabs in. She is, after all, still Courtney Love. “I’ve never seen anyone so talented, so f—ing talented, blow their mojo [the way Corgan has]. Maybe it’s because he has all the money. He got all the money. He is so rich. He’s, like, Oprah-rich. … He invested really well,” she laughed. “I can’t really theorize on it, other than to say I don’t understand. … I don’t know what his problem is, but when you bring in my kid, that just pisses me off. But I don’t feel like having the rock-star fight. People are like, ‘Watch Courtney and Billy fight!’ No, I’m not fighting.” Not anymore, at least. ‘Hills’ Season Premiere: Heidi Montag Reveals Cosmetic Makeover To Her Parents

Plus, Kristin Cavallari, Audrina Patridge and crew party in Miami. By Amy Wilkinson Heidi Montag on “The Hills” Tuesday Photo: MTV From the cover of People magazine to a much-publicized sit-down on “Good Morning America,” Heidi Montag has made the rounds flaunting her brand-new body, a result of a staggering 10 plastic surgery procedures. But on Tuesday’s final season premiere episode of “The Hills,” the 23-year-old may have faced her harshest critics: her parents. The episode opened with Heidi’s sister-in-law, Stephanie Pratt, and Lo Bosworth discussing Stephanie’s recent DUI and Super Bowl weekend plans in Miami, but the conversation quickly turned toward rumors of Heidi’s makeover. “There’s been some talk about Heidi and a new face,” Lo divulged. “This is all hearsay: eyebrow lift, ears pinned back, nose job, chin job, boob job, butt job.” Having not seen Heidi or brother Spencer in months, Stephanie could only sit, mouth gaping in awe and confusion over the prospect of a butt job. At home, Heidi was busy packing her bags for a trip to Crested Butte, Colorado, to see her parents. Though husband Spencer warned her that the trip was a mistake, Heidi insisted on going because she hadn’t seen her family since their wedding — before she went under the knife. With sister Holly in tow, Heidi arrived in Colorado to a lukewarm and slightly bewildered reception. “It’s very weird and awkward,” began mom Darlene, investigating her daughter’s new face. “You risked your life to do the things that you did. You had an elective surgery that was completely unnecessary. I feel like when you left home, you had more confidence and self-esteem than anyone I had ever met.” When Heidi pointedly asked her mom if she liked her new look, Darlene couldn’t give her the answer she’d hoped for. “How do I say that I thought you were more beautiful before?” Darlene asked. “But, yes. I thought you were much more beautiful before. I’m hoping some of this will fade and go away.” This elicited a contorted sob from Heidi — the best she could do with her sore, fragile face. The rest of Heidi’s trip was seemingly spent defending her plastic surgery to her worried family. Meanwhile in Miami, Stephanie and Lo frolicked on the beach and partied in the clubs with Audrina Patridge, Kristin Cavallari, Brody Jenner, Sleazy T and Frankie. Brody paid extra attention to Audrina, eliciting a twinge of jealousy from the now-single Kristin, who ended things with Justin Bobby. “For once the guy she wants back doesn’t want her. He wants me,” Audrina mused. A couple of hard-partying, late nights later, the girls began to worry about Kristin’s erratic lifestyle. Having been awakened in the middle of the afternoon to catch a flight home, Kristin overheard the girls gossiping about her and confronted them. “People are saying things about you,” Lo replied. “Everyone is saying that you’re doing drugs.” Kristin flatly denied the rumors, turning the attack back on Stephanie and her alcohol issues, before leaving the hotel room in a huff. But not to worry, Kristin did make it onto a plane headed back to the Hills. The Hills Season Premiere Recap: Plastic Surgery, Drug Use and a Whole Lot of Arguing

If you love The Hills, last night’s premiere (Season 6, Episode 1) was a doozy. If you’re so over The Hills by now, this episode is probably a classic example of why. “Put on a Happy Face” featured Heidi Montag’s family trying to do just that … staring at her face and the rest of her body after 139 unnecessary plastic surgeries. The Hills final season debut should have come with a “Warning: Disturbing Images” disclaimer. Below, THG breaks down the action using our patented +/- scale: They should show a close-up shot of Heidi Montag’s fake boobs in their hilarious glory as The Hills title card. Although those things are more like a mountain range. Is it just us or are all of these chicks skinnier, meaner and more annoying than ever? Did MTV unveil new protocol for these mean girl anorexic fembots? Minus 9 . Lo is a full-time cast member at last! Plus 4 ! Kristin Cavallari can’t believe she’s accused of drug use … despite staying out until 8 a.m. and looking like a stick figure. Minus 5 . Where would they get that idea? A face only a mother could love… and even she has a hard time . Let’s run down Heidi Montag’s plastic surgery in her own words: “I got a slight eyebrow lift and that’s why I got these staples in my head. I had my nose redone, I had my own fat injected into my cheeks. I had my ears pinned back. I had injections into my lips. I had my chin shaved down. I had my breast redone, and my back shaped… and I had a little bit of inner and outer lipo.” No points , we just had to. Heidi’s mother Darlene reacts honestly to her daughter’s absurd plastic surgeries, asking “why [she] would want to look like Barbie?” Our thoughts exactly. Plus 18 . After Heidi Montag prods further, Darlene says looked “younger and fresher-looking” before. Minus 6 , ’cause Heidi would so cry if her face weren’t frozen in place. Kristin is, like, mad that Brody Jenner is flirting with Audrina Patridge. We love Brody, but why keep recycling the same three guys as fake love interests? Minus 7 . Hard partying Kristin denies she’s got a problem. Wearing sunglasses indoors doesn’t make you look cool, Kristin. Minus 4 . Nice of Stephanie to make it out of rehab in time for filming. Plus 3 . Heidi tells her fam they “live in the mountains and wouldn’t understand.” LOL, as if Crested Butte, Colo., were some backwards, classless, hillbilly dump. Plus 11 . This isn’t related, but Spencer Pratt is reportedly on the outs with the show after he refused to start a physical fight with Holly Montag. Yes, Spencer Pratt . Plus 5 . TOTAL: +10 . The “reality” of The Hills is always debated, but it more or less on display last night, and we know this because we cover the cast’s actual lives daily. We much prefer episodes like this, whatever the annoyances, to absurd, contrived plot lines such as Speidi’s baby argument or Kristin and Justin Bobby “dating.” Click to enlarge more pics from the episode …

Chimps’ emotional response to death caught on film

(Multiple videos, images, and captions seen at link) In the final hour, they huddled around, studied her face and shook her gently as if to revive her. And when the others had drifted away, one stayed behind to hold her hand. As death scenes go, it has all the poignancy of human loss, but this was no everyday tragedy. The last breath was drawn before scientists' cameras and represents one of the most extraordinary displays of chimpanzee behaviour ever recorded. Video footage of the death of Pansy, who at fifty-something was the oldest chimpanzee in the UK, was released by scientists today. The film captures for the first time the complex reactions of our nearest evolutionary cousins to the death of a group member. Studying the apes' behaviour could tell us as much about ourselves as the attachments and responses to death that chimpanzees exhibit within their groups and families, scientists believe. It could also challenge procedures for dealing with terminally ill animals in captivity. “Some of these behaviours have never been seen before in chimpanzees. It leads us to ask questions about the evolutionary origins of our own response to death and dying in a member of our own group or family,” said Jim Anderson, an expert in the social behaviour of non-human primates at Stirling University in Scotland, who recorded the footage. “Many of our greatest philosophical questions concern death and dying and how we perceive it and deal with it.” Pansy, a female who died of old age at Blair Drummond Safari Park at the end of 2008, was one of four chimpanzees being filmed by Anderson's group. When she became ill, vets paid regular visits to give treatment, while her companions – her daughter, a male and another female – looked on from a distance. When Pansy lay down in a nest that one of the other apes had made, the rest gathered around her and began grooming and caressing her. Shortly before she died, all three crouched down and inspected her face very closely. They then began to shake her gently. “It is difficult to avoid thinking that they were checking for signs of life,” said Anderson. “After a time, it seemed that the chimpanzees arrived at a collective decision that she had gone. Two left immediately, but one, the other adult female, stayed and held her hand,” said Anderson. “That evening, her daughter came back and stayed with her mother all night long. She was trying to sleep, but was clearly very disturbed. All three of them were.” Chimpanzees are rare, even among nonhuman primates, in displaying self-awarness and empathy to other individuals. An animal may only respond to death in an apparently emotional way once these abilities have evolved, Anderson said. The chimps' behaviour contrasts starkly with accounts of chimps being killed during encounters with other animals in the wild. Typically, groups react to violent deaths by going into a mass frenzy. Anderson, whose research is published in the journal Current Biology, described the behaviour of chimps at Blair Drummond after a death as “serene”. The footage has led him to call into question the wisdom of removing terminally ill animals from their enclosures shortly before they die. “At least in some cases, it might be better for all concerned to allow the animal to die in the comfort of familiar surroundings,” he said. Other extraordinary footage of chimps dealing with death is reported in a second paper in the same journal (see below – some readers may find the video upsetting). Dora Biro, a researcher at Oxford University, witnessed the deaths of five chimpanzees, including two infants, in a community living in the forests of Bossou in Guinea. The mothers of the two infants, which were killed by a respiratory disease, carried their dead offspring for weeks and months. During that time the two infant corpses became mummified, but the mothers continued to groom the bodies and carried them to their day and night nests as though there were alive. Over time, the mothers began to allow others in the group to handle the corpses and went longer periods without them. “Chimpanzees are humans' closest evolutionary relatives, and they have already been shown to resemble us in many of their cognitive functions. They empathise with others, have a sense of fairness, and can cooperate to achieve goals,” said Biro. “How they perceive death is a fascinating question and little data exist so far concerning chimpanzees' responses to the passing of familiar or related individuals either in captivity or in the wild.” She added: “Our observations confirm the existence of an extremely powerful bond between mothers and their offspring which can persist, remarkably, even after the death of the infant, and they further call for efforts to elucidate the extent to which chimpanzees understand and are affected by the death of a close relative or group-mate. “This would both have implications for our understanding of the evolutionary origins of human perceptions of death and provide insights into the way chimpanzees interpret the world around them.” added by: animalia_libero
