The name Anthony Armstrong-Jones may no longer be widely recognized on this side of the pond, but there was a time when the Earl of Snowdon was a tabloid fixture with as firm a grip on the public’s imagination as the most scandalous stars of today. The husband of Queen Elizabeth II’s sister, Princess Margaret, Snowdon lived out loud in a fashion that scandalized the royals and helped define the hedonistic zeitgeist of the Swinging Sixties. A photographer, filmmaker and unabashed bohemian, Snowdon captivated Britons when he married Margaret in 1960, and his status as a relatable commoner amongst royals has earned him comparisons to Princess Diana. At first, Snowdon’s freewheeling lifestyle made him a perfect fit for the rebellious Margaret, and the British press fell in love with the young couple that was so unlike the more sedate Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Eventually, however, Snowdon’s appetite for promiscuous sex (with women and men alike), hard-partying, and hob-nobbing with his era’s biggest celebrities put a strain on his marriage, and he and Margaret divorced in 1978. In the years that followed, Snowdon was lauded for his discretion, turning down lucrative offers to pen a tell-all about his time as a royal in-law. Eventually, however, the more lurid details of his wild life and times came to light: Snowdon lived a life of extremes, at once both highly ambitious and accomplished (In addition to his artistic achievements, he received a patent for an electric wheelchair that he invented in 1971.), and given over to debauched behavior that’s shocking by today’s standards, let alone the stuffy mores of England in the early ’60s. One of the more recent gossip items about his personal life came to light in 2008, when Snowdon admitted to fathering a daughter out of wedlock just months before marrying Princess Margaret. The child – conceived during an alcohol and amyl-nitrate-fueled threesome – was born while Armstrong-Jones was on his honeymoon with Princess Margaret. It was only when she was in her late forties that the woman learned Snowdon was her father via a DNA test. Just months after his marriage to Margaret ended, Snowdon married Lucy Lindsay Hogg, who gave birth to his daughter, Frances, in 1979. Margaret never remarried, and died of a stroke in 2002. Though he’ll likely be best remembered for his involvement with the royals and his decadent lifestyle, those who followed Snowdon’s career say that he had a tremendous impact on the arts scene in London throughout his multi-decade career. The many famous subjects who sat for photo sessions with Snowdon say his charisma, warmth, and sense of humor made for a relaxed environment that resulted in uniquely intimate images. Sources say he passed away peacefully at home. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Passed Away in 2016: Gone, But Not Forgotten
Finally. The Browns can celebrate some exciting news. As has been well documented over the past several weeks, all is not exactly calm and cool between loved ones on Sister Wives. There has been talk that Kody Brown is either splitting from wife Robyn or wife Meri or even that all four Sister Wives are ready to just up and leave the father of their children. Ugly rumors have been running rampant, but Maddie Brown and Caleb Brush are here with a bit of exciting news for those who follow this TLC series: They’re having a baby! Sorry, you probably knew that already. Let’s try this again: they’re having a baby BOY! The couple learned the sex of their impending child during a gender reveal party on Monday and then shared the answer with Us Weekly. “We are both super excited for our little boy,” Maddie and Caleb have told the tabloid. “Although we had a good hunch that it was a boy, it’s nice to finally know, so we can start preparing!” According to Us Weekly, the reality stars hosted about 30 close friends and loved ones at Christine Brown’s residence in Las Vegas this week. The attendees then played a game in which they cut out mustaches or hair bows from paper and actually donned the accessories themselves. They were also given blue and pink balloons, but only the blue ones could inflate. Maddie – the daughter of Kody and his second wife, Janelle – is 21 years old. She made her pregnancy announcement on November 21, sharing an Instagram photo at the time of her husband kissing her baby bump, writing as a caption; “So happy to announce our little addition!” The two were married in a beautiful, intimate outdoor ceremony back in June in Montana. Last month, Maddie posted an image of the expecting parents at Yellowstone National Park. “Six months being married to you has been more than a fairy tale come true. You truly are my best friend and soul mate! I look forward to the years to come!” she wrote as a caption. AWWW, right? It’s been a turbulent time for the Browns of late. As those who watch Sister Wives online know very well, Maddie’s half-sister, Mariah, stunned her family by coming out of the closet a couple episodes ago. She stood in front of her dad and other relatives and announced she is gay. And while Kody was surprised at the news initially, expressing a few reservations and asking a few questions, he did eventually come around. “A surprise to me. Required some deep thought,” Kody Tweeted of the reveal on Sunday night, adding over the course of a couple more messages: “After checking to see if she was sure, I just needed her to know she was safe… “God has prepared my heart and mind for 15 years. Now @mariahlian can feel safe being openly gay with our family.” That’s pretty impressive for a Mormon to write. We’re not judging the religion, we’re just noting that many people who practice is are not accepting of the gay lifestyle, based on how they were raised. But that’s another story. For now, let us just say…. congratulations to Maddie and Caleb!
The best thing about Sister Wives is when the family rallies round one of their own. That’s exactly what happened on Sister Wives Season 7 Episode 7 , when Mariah stunned her family with a shocking announcement. The whole family seemed to think she was going to reveal she was in a relationship with someone, but they did not expect her to tell them she was gay. The family were quickly to give her the support she sought and it was pretty amazing. Mariah was quick to point out that it was far from an easy decision to come clean to her family. Robyn understood that it must have taken a lot of courage to tell the family the truth because of them being a plural family. She and Janelle were quick to accept Mariah for who she was, but Meri and Kody had been completely blindsided. You could tell they were trying to process the revelation their daughter had just revealed to them. Surprisingly, the thing that helped Kody make sense of it was that he had entertained the possibility of one of his own being gay before. Kody let his daughter know that he would never like the thought of one of his children not being loved. It was then that he let Mariah know that he would love her no matter what. Meri claimed that she was mostly upset because she did not even suspect it. She assumed her daughter was straight and would marry a man one day. With Meri’s relationship with Mariah on thin ice, Robyn and Kody went to speak to Meri about her feelings because they did not want Meri to send mixed emotions Mariah’s way. Meri decided it was best to choose the family vacation as the best time to talk to her daughter about everything. Meri was cautious about what she was going to say. She feared that she made their relationship even more strained, but there was a slim chance of that. Their relationship was pretty much in tatters. When Meri questioned how Mariah came to the conclusion she was gay, Mariah was quick to shut it down. Her reason? It was personal. Meri tried to relay that she was confused about her feelings to Mariah, but things got tense when she said the word “weird.” Mariah took this personally and thought her mother was calling her weird, but she really was not. There was something that seemed odd about the scene because Meri kept randomly laughing. This irked Mariah even more, who felt her mother was making fun of her. When Meri tried to bring up being in Mariah’s life more, Mariah shut it down. She was not ready to let her mother back in. Mariah did let her mother know that her time away from the family helped her come to terms with her feelings, so that’s why she enjoyed the independence. Later, Meri continued to try and get all the attention on her when the family went out for dinner. After a multitude of questions about Mariah’s sexuality, she revealed that she initially came out to her brother Logan. Meri sobbed that she wanted it to be her. Is this woman trying to cry the family a river, or something? If she really wanted to make amends with Mariah, she should just accept it and move on. She was cremated… and her ashes were placed in a gigantic Prozac-pill urn. For real! “It was a porcelain antique Prozac pill from the ’50s that was one of Carrie’s prized possessions,” Todd, Fisher’s brother, explained The Hollywood Reporter. Leave it to Fisher to keep us cracking up, even in death. The actress, of course, was very open throughout her adult life regarding her mental illness. She suffered from anxiety and Bipolar Disorder and was never seen without her therapy dog, Gary, by her side. Todd Fisher spoke to reporters moments after the funeral in Los Angeles yesterday, which took place one day after his sister’s private memorial . He went into further depth at the time regarding the unusual urn selection. “We couldn’t find anything appropriate. Carrie would like that,” he said of the choice, adding again of the antique pill box: “It was her favorite thing, and so that’s how you do it. And so they’re together, and they will be together here and in heaven, and we’re OK with that.” Fisher died at age 60 and Reynolds at age 84. Todd also said that Carrie’s daughter, Billie Lourd, as on board with the urn. As for everyone else in the family? “Everybody’s as settled as we can be, and we’re not going to go any further,” he shared. “We’ll have a bigger service down the road for the public and all the family friends, but this was a private family service and we’re – it was fitting and it was beautiful.” View Slideshow: Debbie Reynolds: Mourned, Honored by Hollywood Continued Todd Fisher: “We have so much of them that was left behind. All of my sister’s words and all the movies, and all the things that they created. That’s what we need to remember.” And just like Fisher’s fans, who can sit back and at least watch her work at any time, Todd has ways he can remember his loved ones. “They were both Molly Browns of sorts,” he said fondly, expounding: “Molly Brown’s a movie my mom made years ago and it’s about a very strong woman. They were very, very strong women right to the end.” That’s for sure. We miss them. But we know they are together and happy in heaven. There is a time and place for everything, and not everything is a joking matter. These are lessons that apparently D.L. Hughley has yet to learn as he proved just how insensitive, tacky and tactless he can be when he decided that the death of Hollywood icon Debbie Reynolds, merely one day after her daughter […]
When Carrie Fisher died this week at the age of 60, she left behind an enormous Star Wars family and untold millions of fans worldwide. While the iconic actress Fisher belonged to all of us in a sense, the single closest person to her was her only child, daughter Billie Lourd. Billie is 24 years old. Like her mom, Lourd was born in Los Angeles, California, and as the daughter of an actress and talent agent, had showbiz in her blood. Billie's father is agent Bryan Lourd, a partner and managing director of the Creative Arts Agency, and who later came out as bisexual. Through Carrie Fisher, Lourd is the granddaughter of Debbie Reynolds and Eddie Fisher, and the niece of Todd, Joely and Tricia Leigh Fisher. Lourd studied religion and psychology at New York University, graduating in 2014. In February 2015, Lourd was cast in Scream Queens. Her character on the horror-comedy, rich and disillusioned sorority girl Chanel #3, wears earmuffs as an homage to Fisher's Star Wars hairstyle. Here are some pictures of a young actress who is starting to come into her own, and we expect to see plenty more of in the years to come … 1.
