Buckingham Palace ain’t got nothing on Posh Spice’s crib! They’ve become a firm fixture on the Hollywood scene, now David and Victoria Beckham have listed their UK estate for sale. The asking price for the sprawling 22-acre English residence, famously known as Beckingham Palace, is a stunning $29 million! Having bought the home in Hertfordshire, England, and then spending millions renovating it just after their lavish nuptials nearly 13 years ago, the estate holds lots of happy memories. However since moving to California in 2007 – when David signed for LA Galaxy – the Beckham brood has settled into life in the Golden State. When David signed a new two-year deal with his soccer team earlier this year he spoke of his love for Los Angeles. “We love living in LA, we love living in America. CNN Contributer, Roland Martin found out the hard way that a tweet can be costly. During last Sunday’s Super Bowl, Martin tweeted (what some believed to be) a “homophobic” message to his 95,000+ followers. Amid pressure from GLAAD and other Gay Activists Groups, CNN announced its decision to suspend Roland Martin from their network. “Roland Martin’s tweets were regrettable and offensive,” the CNN said in a statement this afternoon. “Language that demeans is inconsistent with the values and culture of our organization, and is not tolerated. We have been giving careful consideration to this matter, and Roland will not be appearing on our air for the time being.” There was no return date referenced. The 43-year-old columnist, commentator and author has been a regular contributor to CNN since 2007. During the Super Bowl, Martin Tweeted: “If a dude at your Super Bowl party is hyped about David Beckham’s H&M underwear ad,” he wrote, “smack the ish out of him!” Gay watchdog groups, including GLAAD (Gay Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), seized upon this as an anti-gay slur and demanded his removal from the network. Roland Martin may have been joking about Super Bowl-related topics with some off-color Tweets Sunday night, but his bosses at CNN definitely didn’t find it funny. The political contributor has been suspended by the network after his remarks – most notably about David Beckham’s H&M underwear ad – were called homophobic. Gay-rights powerhouse GLAAD pushed hard for CNN to fire Martin. That did not happen, but disciplinary sanctions were taken, and his return date is not clear. In a statement, CNN said: “[Martin’s] tweets were regrettable and offensive. Language that demeans is inconsistent with the values and culture of our organization, and is not tolerated.” “We have been giving careful consideration to this matter, and Roland Martin will not be appearing on our air for the time being.” Martin fired off the controversial tweet (above) during the Super Bowl. In another, he wrote, “Who the hell was that New England Patriot they just showed in a head to toe pink suit? Oh, he needs a visit from #teamwhipdatass.” Martin tried to backpedal by issuing an apology Monday. “Based on several tweets I made on my Twitter feed on Super Bowl Sunday yesterday, I have been accused by members of the LGBT community of being supportive of violence against gays and lesbians and bullying,” he wrote. “That is furthest from the truth, and I sincerely regret any offense my words caused.” GLAAD, for one, seems satisfied, saying in a statement: “CNN today took a strong stand against anti-LGBT violence and language that demeans any community.” “Yesterday, Martin also spoke out against anti-LGBT violence.” “We at GLAAD look forward to hearing from CNN and Roland Martin to discuss how we can work together as allies and achieve our common goal of reducing anti-LGBT violence as well as the language that contributes to it.” What do you think? Zuckerberg currently owns almost 414 million shares of Facebook, but he also holds options to buy another 120 million shares at the bargain price of 6 cents a piece. Facebook said in its IPO paperwork that Zuckerberg plans to exercise those options and will sell some of his shares during Facebook’s initial offering to cover the tax bill. DAYUM! Happy GLAAD? CNN Suspends Roland Martin For Homophobic Tweet
GLADD wants Roland Martin to be fired for his comments related to the David Beckham H&M commercial that aired during last night’s Super Bowl. Conversely, Karl Rove and a few other Republicans are afraid that a different Super Bowl ad was created with the aim of getting President Barack Obama rehired. The spot in question is narrated by Clint Eastwood and touts both Chrysler and the turnaround of the auto industry in Detroit, with the actor saying via voiceover: It’s “halftime in America and our second half’s about to begin.” Chrysler Super Bowl Commercial Might this be a veiled reference to a second term for Obama? Rove believes so, pointing to Eastwood’s claim that Detroit “almost lost everything, but we all pulled together” and “now Motor City is fighting again” as support for the administration’s bailout of various companies in the area. “I was, frankly, offended by it,” Karl Rove told Fox News this morning. “I’m a huge fan of Clint Eastwood, I thought it was an extremely well-done ad, but it is a sign of what happens when you have Chicago-style politics, and the president of the United States and his political minions are, in essence, using our tax dollars to buy corporate advertising.” Michelle Malkin also took issue with what she referred to as an “auto bailout ad,” which is interesting only because Eastwood has typically been known as a strong conservative. He even told the Los Angeles Times last year: “We shouldn’t be bailing out the banks and car companies. If a CEO can’t figure out how to make his company profitable, then he shouldn’t be the CEO.” Watch the commercial above and decide: Great ad? Or great ad… with an agenda?
