‘Glee’-Cap: Will Pops The Question

And he isn’t the only one — check out our musical recap of the latest episode! By Jim Cantiello The cast of “Glee” on Tuesday’s episode Photo: FOX Tuesday night’s “Glee” was all about Will Schuester’s proposal to longtime germaphobe girlfriend Emma, and since he apparently lacks any adult friends, he enlisted his glee-club “family” to help out. They pitched potential songs, ranging from a kick-ass “Moves Like Jagger/ Jumping Jack Flash” mash-up to a sensitive Rachel Berry cover of David Guetta and Usher’s “Without You.” But it was the girls’ “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” that awakened Mercedes’ old feelings for Trouty Mouth. Meanwhile, Becky went after the man she loves — fellow handi-capable student Artie — and viewers sat and watched their brief relationship sour. Bummer. Bigger bummer? Finn’s mom revealed the real way his soldier dad died. Biggest bummer? No Klaine. It was an intense episode filled with belly laughs, several Kleenex-grabs, synchronized swimming, random guest stars and a shocking Finn/Rachel proposal cliffhanger. And it inspired this piano ballad musical “Glee”-cap. Hit play on the embedded video below to check it out, and sing along with the lyrics. I think I hit my head while watching “Glee” this week ‘Cause things got cray A “Grease” homage, but Sam is way more buff than Travolta And not as gay (happy) Enter Coach NeNe Leakes She’s funnier and draggier than anything Eddie Murphy’s done in years Then Helen Mirren speaks as Becky’s brain I guess Ryan Murphy’s “no guest stars” rule disappeared Will asks the kids to pick a song for his proposal ‘Cause he has no real friends and it’s starting to freak me out And in the last half-hour of the show, things got extra dark And they tried really hard to bum me out Surprise! Your dad died! He OD’d thanks to PTSD from the Army Not cool Artie leads Becky on She gets confused ’cause she has Downs Then Artie almost drowns in a pool I’m getting whiplash from the tone LMAO-ing then, hell no, now I’m crying! And then Finn proposed NOOOOOOOOOOO! If there’s a double wedding, to the door I am heading I think I hit my head while watching “Glee” this week ‘Cause things got cray It broke my mind so now I’ll just be here And dancing like Lana Del Rey [ Jim slowly turns in a circle, occasionally touching his hair, looking like a cat paralyzed in fear. ] What did you think of this week’s “Glee”? Leave your thoughts in the comments! Related Videos Musical ‘Glee’-Caps Of Season 3

Avicii Calls #6 EDM Artist Of The Year Nod ‘A Big Honor’

‘2011 was the best year of my life, with so many new experiences,’ dance-music superstar tells MTV News. By Adam Stewart Avicii Photo: Ben Hider/ Getty Images 2011 just keeps getting better for Avicii . The 22-year-old (born Tim Bergling) has had a marquee year, to say the least, and to add to his list of accolades, he’s landed at #6 on MTV’s Best EDM Artists of 2011 list. Earlier this week, Avicii took some time out of his insane tour schedule to talk to MTV News and thank his loyal following. “It was obviously a big honor for me,” Bergling told MTV News. “I feel very humbled by the support that my fans have shown me this year.” Avicii’s massive success has made him one of the most sought-after live acts on the planet, hitting quite literally every corner of the globe, wooing masses of fans along the way. And with his upcoming sold-out New Year’s Eve show in New York City, he’s capping the year with a bang. Playing a 135,000-square-foot room on the Hudson River flanked by rising stars Arty and Swanky Tunes, Avicii will have a fitting finale to the year when he became a household name. “2011 was the best year of my life, with so many new experiences,” he said. “Just looking back at it, I feel so fortunate to have been able to visit all of these places and meet all of these different people.” “Levels” was one of the most recognizable tunes of the year across all genres, and “Sunshine,” his Grammy-nominated co-production with EDM vet David Guetta, is a club smash. Add a massive collection of unreleased, “show only” tracks and bootlegs to an already-impressive catalog and it’s easy to see the impact he’s had on the scene. The future is indeed bright for the young Swede, and he’s already getting his ducks in line for a busy year ahead. “2012 is looking packed already with gigs and production time,” he said. “I’m looking forward to being able to keep doing what I’ve been doing this past year.” All this week, watch “AMTV” on MTV every day at 8 a.m. ET for our Best of 2011 lists. Then, come to MTVNews.com at 5 p.m. as we reveal our top picks of the year! Related Videos Best EDM Artist Of 2011 Debate Related Artists Avicii

Nicki Minaj, David Guetta To Open American Music Awards

Rapper and French DJ have collaborated on ‘Where Them Girls At?’ By Jocelyn Vena Nicki Minaj Photo: Johnny Nunez/ WireImage Nicki Minaj is up for two American Music Awards , and she will host the A-list bash with Pitbull . Now comes word that the colorful MC will also take the stage. She’s set to kick off the show with David Guetta . The Hollywood Reporter reports that the duo who recorded the track “Where Them Girls At?” for Guetta’s album Nothing but the Beat will start the party that will also include performances by Chris Brown, Katy Perry, LMFAO , Marc Anthony, Justin Bieber, Kelly Clarkson, Mary J. Blige, Christina Aguilera, Pitbull and Maroon 5. Guetta and Minaj began their love affair when they hit the studio to record the club track. When MTV News spoke to Guetta , the French DJ had only the nicest things to say about the fiery rapper. “It was an amazing start working together because I really wanted to work some more with her. I’m a really huge fan. To be honest, it’s very rare that I call artists — most of the time they call me. I’ve been chasing her for like a year because I really wanted to work with her,” Guetta confessed. Minaj has made it clear that the love goes both ways. “He really is a master — a master at his craft,” Minaj said earlier this year. “He’s got it down pat. For me to link up with him, I’m just honored that he was reaching out. When I met him, I liked him instantly. He’s sweet, he’s humble, he’s funny, and he’s just a person you want to be around.” To see what these two have up their sleeves at the show, check out the AMAs when they are broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live on November 20 at 8 p.m. on ABC. The show will be preceded by a one-hour red-carpet special at 7 p.m. Related Artists Nicki Minaj David Guetta

Eve, Diplomats Turn Out For Wolfgang Gartner’s Weekend in America

‘I could go on and on with what I feel for hip-hop,’ the dance music producer tells MTV News of roping in all-star rap features on new album. By Akshay Bhansali Eve Photo: Jason LaVeris/ FilmMagic After a stint in Texas, electronic dance music producer Wolfgang Gartner moved back to his native California, where resumed recording in a new studio. Now that he’s all settled in, Gartner’s got a treat for his fans too: a band-new album that boasts so much hip-hop star power he may become to rap what superstar EDM producer David Guetta is to pop. But longtime fans of Gartner that have been devoted to him for hits like “Undertaker” and “Animal Rights” need not worry: Even with the big collabos, the Wolfgang product sounds no less underground. Weekend in America, which dropped on Tuesday (September 20), features 11 tracks. Thematically, it’s an effort borne of “life on the tour,” according to Grammy-nominated Gartner . “There is definitely a sense of patriotism there,” Gartner (born Joey Youngman) told MTV News recently. ” ‘Illmerica,’ the track came far before I knew the album was going to be called Weekend in America. Once [‘Illmerica’] became a song, I started having these mental images of when you’re flying over the center of the U.S., you see the little houses and you see America. “And for some reason, that’s what this song made me see: the soul of America, which is the bad part and the good part and all of the messed up stuff and the good stuff combined,” the producer continued. “For some reason, that’s just how it made me feel. ” Weekend in America was more alluding to going out on the weekends playing these shows, [where] I’m playing these tracks that I’ve been making. I’m playing other people’s tracks, too, but it’s kind of a culmination of what I see and what I hear out there that influenced the making of this album.” Even before its official release, America tracks like “Space Junk,” “Menage a Trois,” and “818” have already taken off as singles on the EDM scene. But with Tuesday’s album release, Gartner emphasizes what his hard-core fans already knew: He’s got a serious love for hip-hop. Rap princess Eve is featured on the party-hard “Get Em.” Dipset’s Cam’ron and Jim Jones jump on “Circus Freaks.” Omarion belts on “Still My Baby” and as WG fans know, will.i.am gets busy on “Forever,” which was released earlier this year. “I definitely listen to hip-hop more than I listen to dance music,” Gartner confessed to us. “When I’m in my car, all I listen to is rap. Obviously, I’m really into the Dipset crew — that’s like half my playlist right now, the new Jim Jones album. I listen to a lot of old Snoop and West Coast. A lot of old Biggie and the classics. Kanye. I really like Drake, Lil Wayne, that whole [YMCMB] crew. I could go on and on with what I feel for hip-hop.” Of course, with that many hip-hop features on tap, many will draws comparisons to Guetta’s pop crossover success, which has helped to bridge the dance and mainstream music worlds. But while their styles may be different, it’s a comparison Gartner welcomes. “David Guetta has been instrumental in creating the climate that we have now, where I can work with Eve and I can work with will.i.am, and they are receptive, the public is receptive and radio is receptive,” Gartner explained. “He played a role in opening the door up for people like me to do the same thing and have success. I think the dance music community, including myself, owes something to him for sort of paving the way for that.” Weekend in America is available at Beatport.com Next up for Gartner is the video for “Get Em,” with Eve.
