Pat Robertson on David Petraeus Affair: He’s a Man, She’s Hot!

Conservative televangelist Pat Robertson is weighing in on Gen. David Petraeus’ affair with Paula Broadwell … and says he can’t really blame the guy. After all, he’s a man, and she’s really attractive. “The man’s off in a foreign land and he’s lonely and here’s a good looking lady throwing herself at him. I mean, he’s a man,” Robertson said in an interview. He continued describing Paula Broadwell : “She is an extremely good looking woman. She is a marathon runner. She runs Iron Man triathlons. So she’s out running with him and writing a biography.” “I think the term is ‘propinquity.'” Propinquity roughly translates to “proximity” … so essentially the devout Christian Robertson is excusing an extramarital affair based on a hot chick being nearby. At least if she runs Iron Man triathlons. Endurance, baby. Broadwell’s affair with Petraeus came to light after threatening emails she wrote to Jill Kelley – another hot chick – were brought to the attention of the FBI. Kelley denies she and Petraeus were involved, but they were friends, and Broadwell evidently thought there was something going on and told her to step off. Married for 37 years to Holly Petraeus , David resigned as CIA director Friday in a surprising scandal that continues to take new, strange turns by the day.

Michael Arndt Confirmed as Star Wars Episode VII Screenwriter

Michael Arndt has been selected for one of the most sought after jobs in Hollywood at the moment: he will pen the screenplay for Star Wars Episode VII . The decision has been confirmed by StarsWars.com, which posted a statement last night announcing the hiring of Arndt . He won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for writing Little Miss Sunshine in 2006 and was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for writing Toy Story 3 four years later. The movie world remains in an uproar, of course, after George Lucas sold his company to Disney (for a cool $4 billion) and Disney then announced plans to continue the Stars Wars franchise. Since then, we know Harrison Ford has expressed interest in returning as Han Solo, while Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher met with Lucas in August to discuss Episodes VII, VIII, and IX.

Paula Broadwell Reported as Mistress of David Petraeus

Following the shocking news that David Petraeus resigned yesterday as director of the CIA due to an extramarital affair, news outlets have now confirmed the woman at the heart of that scandal: Paula Broadwell, the former chief of U.S. Central Command’s biographer. A Harvard graduate, Broadwell spent a great deal of time with Petraeus while doing research for “All In: The Education of General David Petraeus.” She wrote and talked about the unlimited access she was granted for the book, which included running in the mountains of Afghanistan with the General. Broadwell is a native of North Dakota and was valedictorian of her high school. She currently resides in Charlotte with her husband and has two children. An FBI investigation reportedly uncovered evidence that Broadwell and Petraeus were involved romantically. The former has yet to make a statement, while the latter handed his letter of resignation to President Obama yesterday. Petraeus has been married for 37 years and also has two kids with his wife, Holly. He entered civilian life as the head of the CIA in 2011, following nearly four decades as a decorated military officer.

Osama Bin Laden Hit List: President Obama & Gen. Petraeus Targeted, New Report Indicates

Slain Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden had a hit list, according to reports, with taking down U.S. President on September 11 of this year his #1 target. Bin Laden’s list called for a “celebration” of the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks by shooting down Air Force One with President Obama on board. The terrorist mastermind, who was killed by U.S. forces May 1, also wanted Gen. David Petraeus dead and to crash a plane into a major sports event. A “treasure trove” of documents discovered in Bin Laden’s hideout revealed the plans the Al Qaeda chief was crafting to assassinate Barack Obama. To accomplish that horrific goal, Bin Laden discussed attacking the president’s plane or helicopter with a missile or grenade, officials told ABC News. These machinations were part of U.S. intelligence discoveries that included the murderer’s huge porn stash at his Abbottabad, Pakistan, compound. Sources say that despite Bin Laden’s reputation was the world’s most notorious terrorist and fugitive, success would have been extremely unlikely. “It’s difficult, but not impossible, to shoot down either Gen. Petraeus or the president’s plane,” said Brad Garrett, a former FBI special agent. “The reality is because of all the countermeasures in place, and other planes and helicopters in the air, it’s not a likely scenario,” he added. The plane into a sporting event scenario, however? “We have so many small airports, you could fly below radar,” he said. “That’s possibly doable.” Sweet. Fortunately, the NFL and NBA are currently experiencing lockouts, and no one goes to NHL games (kidding, mostly), leaving only baseball.

Petraeus Aide: If Troops Can’t Deal With DADT Repeal, They Should Leave The Service

WASHINGTON — A senior aide to David Petraeus, commander of NATO forces in Afghanistan, is out with a strong statement in support of repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell (DADT), saying that servicemembers who can't adjust to the change should think about leaving the military. “If there are people who cannot deal with the change, then they're going to have to do what's best for their troops and best for the organization and best for the military service and exit the military service, so that we can move forward — if that's the way that we have to go,” said Command Sergeant Major Marvin Hill in an interview with Roland Martin on Washington Watch, set to air on Sunday. Indeed, one of the arguments put forth by many critics of repeal is that integrating the forces will result in a loss of large number of servicemembers opposed to the change. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen addressed this concern during his recent testimony before the Senate Armed Services Committee, stating, “Should repeal occur, some soldiers and Marines may want separate shower facilities. Some may ask for different berthing. Some may even quit the service. We'll deal with that.” Also in the interview with Washington Watch, Hill said that he believes “the troops are ready for something like this.” “We know that if there is a change, that that change will have to be led, and it's going to have to be led by senior leaders such as myself and — and others across the battlefield. Senior leaders are the ones [that are] going to set the tone in the unit and enable the unit to move forward.” In March, Petraeus told Congress that he believed the time had come to repeal the military's ban on DADT. He has also said that in his personal experience of serving with openly gay and lesbian CIA officers, “after the 10 seconds of awareness wore off, the focus was on the professional attributes of these individuals.” added by: TimALoftis

In Rare Flash of Insight, Ed Schultz Asks if Obama Admin Deliberately Inflamed Koran Burning Controversy

Just as quickly as Ed Schultz revealed he is capable of cognition, the liberal radio host and aspiring MSNBC arsonist regressed to himself. Here’s Schultz on his radio show yesterday talking about criticism from General David Petraeus, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Obama of an obscure pastor’s vow to burn copies of the Koran, thereby elevating it to international news ( link here for audio) — So now, it was General Petraeus who first went on record and talked about this. I mean, that took it to a whole new level, didn’t it? And then it’s Hillary Clinton and now it’s the president of the United States on ‘Good Morning America.’ I mean, you know who ought to put the mission accomplished sign up is this nutjob down in Florida. He’s got a congregation of 50 people. He’s been discredited by a lot of people who have worked with him. But he is getting an insurmountable amount of attention and, yes, I’m talking about it because the president talked about it! I don’t think this has been managed properly.  I don’t think they’ve handled this right. I want to know if General Petraeus made all these comments about this nutjob pastor down in Florida before the White House knew about it. Because all that did was inflame the situation! It’s almost as if they want the radical world to start going nuts and helding (sic) all these demonstrations across the world. Does this make sense to you ’cause that’s where I’m at. More along the same lines from Schultz that hour ( audio here ) — This is at the highest level now! Now either they manufactured it to get to the highest level and they wanted it to be at the highest level to show the American people that this is what the nutjobs are doing over on the right and expose their strategy for dividing the country. Maybe that’s it! I don’t know. But I just can’t help but think. Not for long, given how this to Schultz is an unfamiliar realm. By the second hour of his radio show Thursday, he had dutifully returned to the Obama fold ( audio here ) — This is example 1A that (Rahm) Emanuel should leave. And this is a horrible situation that the president has got himself in. Unless it was all manufactured to do this to prove that the righties are just a bunch of nutjobs and this is what it ends up when they start dividing people. But I really, I think that’s a real stab in the dark, I really do. I don’t think that. So close, so close, to performing a public service.

Tea Party president jokes about murdering GLBTQ people

A Facebook exchange: Dennis Scranton: “I think fruits are decorative. Hang up where they can be seen and appreciated. Call Wyoming for display instructions.” Tim Ravndal: “@Kieth, OOPS I forgot this aint(sic) America no more! @ Dennis, Where can I get that Wyoming printed instruction manual?” (A reference to the torture and murder of Matthew Shepard in Wyoming in 1998). Randval has apologized. But the organization has not yet met demands to remove himl from office. What's it going to be, Tea Party and sympathizers? Are you going to have the guy who thinks murdering gays is hilarious as your president? Any official denunciation of violence coming our way anytime soon? I was in college and had just come out when Matthew Shepard was murdered. His death was such a horrifying and unexpected tragedy that it left its mark on everyone I knew, even though none of us had ever met him. To read the exchange between Scranton and Ravndal makes me wince as if from a physical blow. Matthew was my age – he'd be almost 34 now. Is the world now, no better than the world that he left? Is this truly where Tea Party and other anti-gay types want us to be? Because this is where the road of homophobia and discrimination against GLBTQ people ends. This is where the fractured discourse, alarmist propaganda, and fearmongering ends. In violence and death. It's not funny to me. Is it funny to you, Tea Party? added by: putdownmypants

Petraeus "Planned Burning of Qur’ans Could Endanger Troops"

KABUL—The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan said the planned burning of Qurans on Sept. 11 by a small Florida church could put the lives of American troops in danger and damage the war effort. Gen. David Petraeus said the Taliban would exploit the demonstration for propaganda purposes, drumming up anger toward the U.S. and making it harder for allied troops to carry out their mission of protecting Afghan civilians. “It could endanger troops and it could endanger the overall effort,” Gen. Petraeus said in an interview. “It is precisely the kind of action the Taliban uses and could cause significant problems. Not just here, but everywhere in the world we are engaged with the Islamic community.” Hundreds of Afghans attended a demonstration in Kabul on Monday to protest the plans of Florida pastor Terry Jones, who has said he will burn copies of Islam's holy book to mark the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Afghan protesters chanted “death to America,” and speakers called on the U.S. to withdraw its troops. Some protesters threw rocks at a passing military convoy. Military officials fear the protests will likely spread to other Afghan cities, especially if the event is broadcast or ends up on Internet video. Mr. Jones, head of the 50-member Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, Fla., said in a statement that “We understand the General's concerns. We are sure that his concerns are legitimate.” Nonetheless, he added, “We must send a clear message to the radical element of Islam. We will no longer be controlled and dominated by their fears and threats.” Mr. Jones has been denied a permit for the demonstration, but has said he plans to go forward with the protest. Rev. Stephanie Sapp, spokeswoman for the center, said no one from the Pentagon or other federal agencies had expressed concern or asked that the event be canceled. She did say that the Federal Bureau of Investigation had discussed security measures. Pentagon officials said they were not aware that any Defense officials have reached out directly to Mr. Jones. But military officers said they hoped that Gen. Petraeus's statement—an unusual move since military commanders rarely get involved in politics—would convince Mr. Jones to change his plans. Gen. Petraeus declined to elaborate on the nature of the threats or violence that could occur, but westerners in Afghanistan have been warned away from restaurants and other public places amid the rising tensions. Other senior military leaders echoed Gen. Petraeus commentsMonday. Lt. Gen. William Caldwell, who oversees the effort to train Afghan security forces said he was informed of the planned Florida protests several days ago by a senior minister in the Afghan government.
