Leonardo DiCaprio May Reteam With Ridley Scott On Wall Street Movie

Long in the works ‘Wolf of Wall Street’ adaptation would be produced by Martin Scorsese. By Eric Ditzian Leonardo DiCaprio Photo: Jim Spellman/ WireImage Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese had been trying to bring an adaptation of Jordan Belfort’s tell-all memoir, “The Wolf of Wall Street,” to the big screen since early in 2007. Scorsese was set to direct, and Leo would play Belfort, a New York stockbroker who landed in prison for refusing to cooperate in a 1990s securities fraud case. “Sopranos” scribe Terence Winter came onboard to pen the screenplay. But the project stalled, and DiCaprio and Scorsese went off to make “Shutter Island.” Now the film is getting another shot, Deadline New York reports, and director Ridley Scott is in early discussions to helm “Wolf.” DiCaprio, who worked with Scott on 2008’s “Body of Lies,” would remain in the starring role and Scorsese would shift into the role of a producer. The film would reportedly be similar to DiCaprio’s “Catch Me If You Can” in terms of storytelling, as “Wolf” would focus on Belfort’s relationship with an FBI agent who tries to convert him into an informant. According to Deadline, all involved still love Winter’s script. “It is funny, dramatic and fast paced, and manages to make something of a sympathetic character out of a stockbroker who supervises a cadre of brokers who squeezed clients to buy stocks that paid off — for the brokers, who used the funds to live extravagantly until they were brought down by the feds,” Deadline’s Mike Fleming wrote. The only thing standing in the way of production is scheduling. Scott is plowing ahead on his 3-D “Alien” prequel and DiCaprio’s next role is “Hoover,” the biopic directed by Clint Eastwood. Peter Jackson in Negotiations to Direct The Hobbit

It looks like the MGM and Warner Bros. strategy of contacting tonally inappropriate directors to helm The Hobbit franchise had paid off better than any strategy associated with MGM in the last year. According to Movieline sister site Deadline, Peter Jackson is fully immersed in negotiations that would place him behind the camera for the two Hobbit films. Feign your total surprise… now.

Octomom Shills For PETA, Pays Mortgage

American’s favorite baby factory, who gave birth to octuplets after having six kids already, is endorsing a PETA campaign to promote neutering of dogs and cats. Hey, they’re helping Nadya Suleman pay the mortgage. Facing foreclosure, she was fresh out of options, California home loan rates being what they are and all. The 34-year-old Octomom is being paid $5,000 to keep a sign promoting spay and neuter surgeries for critters in her garden in La Habra, Calif, until June 9. That’s the deadline when city officials say it must be removed. The sign reads : “Don’t Let Your Dog Or Cat Become An Octomom. Always Spay Or Neuter. PETA.” Since giving birth to her eight babies 16 months ago, Nadya Suleman has struggled to pay bills and was in danger of losing her home like so many Americans. Don’t let your daughters do it, either. Her lawyer negotiated an extension on a $450,000 California mortgage bill that had been due in March, and after PETA stepped in , she made this month’s bill! She declined a more lucrative offer in favor of PETA’s. “It’s really a win-win situation for everyone involved,” PETA campaign coordinator Amanda Fortino said of helping Octomom and animals at the same time. Ever generous, the group is also throwing in a month’s supply of vegan hot dogs and burgers for Nads and her 14 children. That’s a lot of gross hot dogs! Octomom couldn’t be happier: “I love animals and believe they should be spayed or neutered,” she said at her home “Humans of course are much different.” Sure, but maybe an exception can be made. Right? Please?

Rockford Files Reboot Abandoned: Have TV Remakes Ever Worked?

Ever since NBC announced the Rockford Files remake, you wanted to snap, “Stop trying to make The Rockford Files happen, NBC. It’s not going to happen.” And now it isn’t: Deadline reports that the Dermot Mulroney-toplined reboot is kaput . Even USA, a better fit for such a quirky procedural, passed on Rockford . Conventional wisdom suggests we live in a sad generation of entertainment awash with remakes, but you’d think at least one retread would’ve been good (or successful) enough to warrant this mimeographed mania. Truth is, the idea of a working remake may be the most contrived of all.

Kristen Stewart To Star In Film Adaptation Of ‘On The Road’

‘I am about to play Marylou in ‘On the Road,’ ‘Twilight’ star says during ‘Oprah’ taping. By Eric Ditzian Kristen Stewart Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images The big Kristen Stewart-related news of the week is that “Breaking Dawn” has, at long last, been gifted with a release date . But a smaller, though no less intriguing, nugget of KStew-y goodness dropped on Wednesday (May 5), when the 20-year-old actress paid a visit to “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” Stewart is attached to the long-gestating adaptation of “On the Road,” the seminal 1957 novel by Jack Kerouac that came to define the Beat Generation, according to USA Today . “I am very much attached to a movie that has been trying to get made forever,” she told the paper while in Chicago for the “Oprah” taping. “Not that this is going to help it, but maybe I can just brag a little bit. I am super excited about it, too. I am about to play Marylou in ‘On the Road.’ So that’s a big deal.” Marylou is the wife of Dean Moriarity, the disaffected drifter at the center of Kerouac’s book. “Tron Legacy” star Garrett Hedland is reportedly set to play Moriarity , while little-known British actor Sam Riley will play Sal Paradise, Kerouac’s narrator and Moriarity’s worshipful, cross-country driving buddy. Walter Salles (“The Motorcycle Diaries”) has been tapped as director. USA Today reports that the film is gearing up to start filming this summer, after filmmakers like Gus Van Sant and Francis Ford Coppola have tried for years to adapt Kerouac’s film for the big screen. The summer shoot should end well in advance of the start of filming on “Breaking Dawn” this fall. The final film in the “Twilight” franchise will hit theaters on November 18, 2011. What do you think of Kristen’s new role? Let us know in the comments below! For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .

Joaquin Phoenix Mockumentary Is Really Happening

Casey Affleck-directed film is being shopped to buyers, including Harvey Weinstein. By Eric Ditzian Joaquin Phoenix Photo: Gustavo Caballero/ Getty Images Who could forget Joaquin Phoenix’s epic unraveling on the “Late Show With David Letterman,” when the heavily bearded actor mumbled his way through one of the most awkward appearances in late-night history? Had the guy lost his marbles ? Or was this whole muttering Grizzly Adams thing an elaborate hoax? A hoax it was, and the mockumentary about Phoenix’s transition from Oscar-nominated actor to aspiring rapper is complete and being shopped around to buyers, reports Deadline.com . Directed by Casey Affleck , the film’s details are being keep under lock and key, but it will surely follow Phoenix’s many public, perplexing episodes since word of the project — publicized as a straight documentary — first cropped up in January of 2009. Those episodes included a video of the actor spitting verses at a nightclub, reportedly inking a deal with Diddy, performing at a club in Las Vegas (and falling off the stage), and supposedly posting demo tracks on MySpace. And, of course, there was the “Letterman” interview, which took such a bizarre turn that at the end of the segment, the host memorably said to Phoenix, “I’m sorry you couldn’t be here tonight.” According to the Deadline report, the mockumentary was debuted to buyers last week during a private lunchtime screening at the William Morris Endeavor talent agency. Attendees included Harvey Weinstein. A deal for the film is expected to be completed within a matter of days. There’s still no word about when the public will get a chance to see the film, but the apparent goal is to keep the mockumentary’s details a secret for as long as possible before it debuts.
