Three Teens Charged In Amy Joyner-Francis’ Death The tragic passing of 16 year old Amy Joyner-Francis after getting ambushed by three classmates first thing in the morning in a school bathroom struck a chord with millions. Now, the girls who jumped Amy are being charged with causing her death. Though investigators originally thought that Amy’s head struck the bathroom sink at some point during the attack, it turns out that she was simply put under too much stress during the fight and it triggered a heart condition that she was already battling. Via DelawareOnline : Amy Inita Joyner-Francis, the 16-year-old fatally assaulted in the girls bathroom at Howard High School of Technology, did not die of injuries sustained in the beating, but from a pre-existing heart condition exacerbated by the attack. An autopsy showed she did not die of blunt force trauma. “In layman’s terms, the Medical Examiner determined that Amy died from a cardiac incident that she was vulnerable to because of a pre-existing heart condition, but the cardiac incident would not have occurred if she had not been assaulted,” the statement reads. However, the girls who planned the attack on Amy are still held criminally liable for her death: The state Attorney General’s Office is pushing to have one of three girls involved tried as an adult. Trinity Carr, 16, seen in video punching Joyner-Francis in the head and chest, is charged with criminally negligent homicide, punishable by up to eight years in prison. The two other girls, Zion Snow and Chakeira Wright, will be charged with third-degree criminal conspiracy, punishable by up to one year in prison. Because neither of the other two girls hit Amy nor had prior arrests, they will be tried as juveniles in Family Court. Investigators determined the April 21 fight was a planned confrontation in the girl’s bathroom, but only one girl – Carr – actually hit Amy, according to a statement by the Attorney General’s Office. The fight was filmed, according to court documents, and shows Carr hitting Amy repeatedly in the head and torso area with “what appears to be a closed fist.” The video shows Carr leave and Amy try to stand up; then Amy appears disoriented and collapses back onto the floor, the court documents show. When paramedics found her, she was unresponsive and shortly after went into cardiac arrest. SMH! One life lost and three others ruined…all over something that they surely could have talked out or just forgotten about altogether… Facebook
Prince fans can now relive the magic of Purple Rain on the big screen. The semi-autobiographical rock drama starring Prince can be seen for a limited time at select AMC Theaters starting today. Purple Rain tells the story of a young musician, “The Kid” (Prince), and his rise to stardom through the clubs in Minneapolis. The Kid is a misunderstood albeit genius artist who grapples with abusive parents, a budding relationship with a new singer and rival band Morris Day and the Time. The film, first released in 1984, is a must-see (or a must-see again) for any Prince fan, as it gives keen insights into who the man was as an individual. It brought us one of the greatest soundtracks of all time, featuring indelible tracks such as “When Doves Cry,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” “I Would Die 4 U,” and, of course, “Purple Rain.” With Purple Rain , Prince was the first artist to ever have the top movie, album and single at the same time. The film earned $80 million at the box office and is expected to rake in many more during its temporary run in the coming week. An autopsy was conducted yesterday, but an official cause of death may not be known for weeks pending toxicology results. The Carver County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that no foul play was suspected and does not believe Prince’s death was a suicide. TMZ reported that Prince had been treated for an overdose of Percoset just six days before his death when his plane made an emergency landing to administer a “save shot,” which is said to counter the effects of opiates. It is unknown whether drugs played a role in the music legend’s untimely death. Purple Rain can be seen throughout the country at select AMC theaters from Saturday, April 23 through Thursday, April 28. The Hollywood Reporter provides a complete listing of theaters . If Tyga had a theme song of the week, it might be NWA's “F**k the Police.” The rapper is fired up at the LAPD for searching the SUV he was traveling in Thursday night. The “Rack City” lyricist posted a pic and a video to Snapchat of the incident, calling the cops “the real crooks.” In the video (below), officers are seen searching the SUV as Tyga snaps. Police told TMZ that Tyga's team contains some known gang members, so they sent officers to investigate when they heard the rapper had a show in Hollywood. Unfortunately for the po-po, the only thing they found was a gun that belonged to a bodyguard, which was licensed in a different state. The weapon was not loaded and no other violations were discovered, so the crew was off the hook. Police had told Tyga he was not under investigation and could leave, but he opted to stick around to document the incident. The Instagram account @tygasnaps, which reposts Tyga's Snapchats, posted the video he recorded of the search and included a caption attributed to the rapper: “TMZ got the [police emoji] believing everything they read to looking for [gun emoji] S M H ” -@kinggoldchains” This isn't the first time this month Tyga has lashed out at TMZ. Earlier this month, the site broke the news that Tyga's Lamboghini was about to get repossessed for failure to make payments, but he called the story bunk. “I sold my lambo aventador & Bentley mulsanne over a year ago. I got a hurracan Rolls Royce and Ferrari nice try @tmz,” he tweeted . Some say where there's smoke there's fire, but so far Tyga's been adept at extinguishing any flames.
While fans eagerly await to hear an official cause of death ruling on the legendary Prince, Dr. Drew Pinsky is weighing in with his theory. The Celebrity Rehab host believes the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer may have been the victim of an “accidental overdose,” according to The Hollywood Reporter . After news of the singer’s death broke, TMZ reported that Prince had been treated for an overdose to Percoset just six days prior. His plane made an emergency landing and the star was administered a “save shot,” typically given to counteract effects of opiates such as the aforementioned prescription painkiller. Prince had a history of hip problems and was believed to be taking Percoset to relieve symptoms. After the plane incident occurred, reps for the artist told press that Prince had been battling the flu, and his worsening symptoms are what necessitated the landing. Dr. Drew, for one, doesn’t buy it. “They don’t land planes for the flu,” he said. He speculates that Prince had taken a “combination of oral opiates and Benzodiazepines,” which he says is “extraordinarily dangerous.” View Slideshow: Prince: Stars React to the Death of Iconic Singer While perilous, Drew affirms that physicians prescribe the cocktail “all the time.” He goes on to explain that the potentially lethal combo “stops you from breathing and you die.” “It’s easy for that to happen with that combination even as prescribed,” he confirmed. However, Drew postulates that Prince didn’t have a problem with addiction, but that the overdose was likely an accident. “Although opiates figure into this story, it doesn’t really sound like an addiction story,” he said. “Even if it ends up being drugs that caused him to stop breathing, I would put it more in the accident category than the addiction category,” he continued. “But still, an otherwise healthy middle-aged man with hip pain should not be on opiates chronically. Period.” Drew’s statements bring to mind the accidental overdose and death of another music legend, Michael Jackson. in 2011, Dr. Conrad Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter after administering a fatal dose of Propofol to the late pop star. Could history be repeating itself? We hope not. The idea that another beloved icon who touched so many was taken too early due to a negligent physician saddens and angers us beyond belief.
