Tom Petty: Cause of Death Revealed

The very sad and unfortunate news is in: The official cause of death for music legend Tom Petty has been revealed. The veteran artist passed away in early October , with his manager making the announcement at the time that shook millions of fans. “We are devastated to announce the untimely death of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty,” said Tony Dimitriades, adding: “He died peacefully at 8:40 p.m. local time (0340 GMT Tuesday) surrounded by family, his bandmates and friends.” Petty was 66 years old. Now, nearly five months after Petty died, the results of his autopsy have been made public. In a statement posted on the late singer’s website Friday night, his family said the beloved musician had been using a number of medications, including opioid pain medication Fentanyl. He ultimately died of “multi-system organ failure” caused by “mixed drug toxicity,” according to the aforementioned autopsy report, released on Friday by the Los Angeles County Coroner. During an examination on October 3, the medical examiner found fentanyl, oxycodone, temazepam, alprazolam, citalopram, acetylfentanyl and despropionyl fentanyl. Petty was discovered to be suffering from coronary artery atherosclerosis and emphysema. “Our family sat together this morning with the Medical Examiner – Coroner’s office and we were informed of their final analysis that Tom Petty passed away due to an accidental drug overdose as a result of taking a variety of medications,” reads the family statement. It was signed by widow Dana and daughter Adria. Petty’s loved ones went on to explain that the linchpin to Petty’s demise was a fractured hip.  The singer insisted on touring for 53 concert dates with this difficult condition, which only grew over time and which caused him to take the medications listed on the examiner’s findings.  “On the day he died, [Petty] was informed his hip had graduated to a full-on break and it is our feeling that the pain was simply unbearable and was the cause for his overuse of medication,” the family continued in its statement. The Los Angeles County coroner’s office finished an autopsy on the rocker in October, but the official cause of death required further investigation at the time. Said his family on Friday: “We knew before the report was shared with us that he was prescribed various pain medications for a multitude of issues including Fentanyl patches and we feel confident that this was, as the coroner found, an unfortunate accident.” Fentanyl, it should be noted, is the same opiate that killed Prince in April . The Centers for Disease Control approximates that fentanyl is 80 times as potent as morphine and hundreds of times more potent than heroin. It is classified as a Schedule II drug by the federal government and its medical uses are normally pain management following surgery or for chronic pain. Petty’s relatives acknowledged these facts in its statement. As a family we recognize this report may spark a further discussion on the opioid crisis and we feel that it is a healthy and necessary discussion and we hope in some way this report can save lives. Many people who overdose begin with a legitimate injury or simply do not understand the potency and deadly nature of these medications. Concluded this lengthy note, which was shared on Facebook: On a positive note we now know for certain he went painlessly and beautifully exhausted after doing what he loved the most, for one last time, performing live with his unmatchable rock band for his loyal fans on the biggest tour of his 40 plus year career. He was extremely proud of that achievement in the days before he passed. We continue to mourn with you and marvel at Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ incredible positive impact on music and the world. And we thank you all for your love and support over the last months. May Tom Petty rest in peace. View Slideshow: 22 Celebrities Who Died from an Overdose

Dolores O’Riordan Dies; Cranberries Singer Was 46

Dolores O’Riordan, lead singer of the popular Irish rock band the Cranberries, has passed away at the age of 46. Reps for O’ Riordan confirmed the news of her death just moments ago. O’Riordan’s passing has been described as “sudden,” and the cause of death is currently unknown to the public. The singer was reportedly in London for a recording session and was rushed to a local hospital, where medical staff were unable to resuscitate her. Known for her distinctive mezzo-soprano voice, O’Riordan replaced the Cranberries original lead singer after a successful audition in 1990. During her time as frontwoman, the band enjoyed tremendous commercial success and rose to international fame. O’Riordan and her bandmates recorded 8 top-20 hits, including such perennially popular tunes as “Linger,” “Zombie,” and “Dreams.” The band split up in 2003 but reunited after a several-year hiatus, during which O’Riordan recorded two solo albums. O’Riordan’s frequently-changing style made her a ’90s style icon, and the Cranberries were often name-checked in the pop culture of the time, including a memorable mention in the comedy classic Clueless . In recent years, the singer made tabloid headlines several times as a result of her tumultuous personal life. In 2014, O’Riordan was arrested for assaulting a stewardess and a police officer aboard an Aer Lingus flight to New York. That same year, she split from her husband after 20 years of marriage. In 2017, the Cranberries released an acoustic album and embarked on an intercontinental tour that was cut short due to O’Riordan’s persistent back problems. While her band’s popularity peaked in the 1990s, O’Riordan remained an in-demand performer and a popular figure in Ireland until her death. She was invited to perform at the Vatican on several occasions, and in 2006, she was listed as one of the ten richest women in Ireland. Loving tributes from friends and fans made O’Riordan a top trending topic on Twitter within minutes of when news of her death went public. She is survived by two children. Our thoughts go out to O’Riordan’s family during this difficult time.

Floribama Shore Season 1 Episode 7 Recap: A Death Rocks the House

The boys and girls of the Floribama Shore cannot seem to play nice with one another, and it’s growing rather tiresome.  When Floribama Shore Season 1 Episode 7 got underway, it was time to deal with the aftermath of the possible fight between Gus and Jeremiah.  The lack of fight was somewhat disheartening when you consider the way MTV ramped up the excitement for the episode, but maybe it helped prove that some of the people in the house had a brain.  Who wants to get drunk and go on reality TV to fight with people? Yes, you make a name for yourself, but it’s for all the wrong reasons.  The housemates wanted to find out the cause of the argument, and if you watch Floribama Shore online , you will know it was Codi.  He, however, continued to try and throw the blame on someone else and acted like he had no idea what was going on. Codi reiterated several times that the word “bet” did not escape his mouth.  Katrina struggled to process the fact that two of the men were making bets about her, and decided it was time to call it a night.  Drunk Codi could be likened to Single Ronnie from Jersey Shore, and it’s not a bad thing. The sheer entertainment this dude brings to the show is excellent.  The housemates chatted about how much Codi likes to stir the pot, but they were shocked the next morning when a phone call changed everything.  Codi’s grandfather passed away through the night, and everyone who was mad at him changed their tune. This brought out the family aspect of the shore house, and it helped us connect with these wannabes.  Codi made his exit from the shore house, but not before the group said a prayer with him and gave him one of those awkward hugs a distant family member gives you.  Jeremiah, who has proven to be all muscle and little brain, did something that made us change our perception of him. He urged the others to invite their families over.  It’s incredible how such a selfless act can change things up. For Nilsa, this meant Jeremiah’s brother, Josh, was headed back to the house, and she was a little too excited about it.  For Nilsa, her potential relationship with Josh represents the most feels she’s had for a man ever since her divorce, and while that creeps some people out, it’s kind of cute.  “I really probably don’t want to go on this date,” Josh tells Nilsa citing the fact that she was talking about her ex, and that was enough for Nilsa to end the potential romance.  Nilsa declared that she was headed home, but Aimee was not prepared to let her pal go home over one man.  “You’ve know this dude for a week,” Aimee yelled. “Fuck him.” To help Nilsa get back to being the fun-loving gal we all know she is, Aimee called up her ex and demanded he delivered two pizzas to the house.  Before long, she even said: “I’m gonna shit on your porch, bitch!” Yes, we have no idea where these people get it, but they’re hilarious.  View Slideshow: 15 Reality TV Stars Who Have Been Exposed as Pumpkin-Eaters

Tupac Shakur: Murder Weapon Found! And Lost …

21 years later, the questions surrounding the murder of Tupac Shakur have yet to be conclusively answered. Sure, we’ve heard a lot of theories. Some even believe that the identity of Tupac’s killer has been revealed . But then, some people continue to believe that Tupac is secretly alive. But what we do know is that the murder weapon used to take Tupac’s life was reportedly found … and then lost. All while in police custody. And it gets weirder. … On September 7th, 1996, Tupac Shakur was gunned down in his car by an unknown assailant. Tupac had been shot before — in an attack that appeared to be staged to look like a robbery. This final shooting, however, was transparently an attempt on Tupac’s life. And though the rapper made it to the hospital and doctors did their best, the attempt to kill him was ultimately successful. Conspiracy theories abound. Tupac’s vehicle had been stopped earlier (pro-tip: if you don’t want to be stopped by police, keep your license plate or plates on your vehicle rather than in your trunk), though not detained for long or ticketed. Some believed that police had been somehow involved in this plot. And there’s also the theory that Suge Knight was involved in Tupac’s murder . See, Tupac was reportedly massively in debt to Knight, the CEO of Death Row Records who had pushed for Tupac’s early release from prison. Some saw Knight profiting from Tupac’s record sales after his dramatic death and wondered if that’s exactly how Suge Knight had planned it. Of course, Suge Knight is behind bars in relation to a different violent death. And there are even people who believe that Tupac’s own wife killed him (in a drive-by?). Conspiracy theorists are wild , folks. A much more grounded theory, espoused by former law enforcement who actually worked the case in Compton, was that Tupac wasn’t killed in some elaborate conspiracy worthy of a James Bond villain. Rather, they believe that it was one-on-one gang violence. See, Suge Knight financed his own alleged criminal organization, which made him an automatic enemy of the Crips. (Gangs don’t usually like other gangs sprouting up in their territory) And, by association, that made Tupac the enemy of the Crips. On top of that, what may have made Tupac Shakur a target was that he had, on the day of his death, instigated a beat-down on an alleged Crips member who had robbed a Death’s Row associate earlier that year. (The robbery took place in a Foot Locker, of all places) it seems pretty reasonable that a beaten up members of a powerful gang would result in retribution. Conspiracy theorists, however, point out that the incident may have just made for the perfect cover for an assassination. Theories are easy to create and difficult to prove. You know what’s not easy to come by? Actual, physical evidence. Like a murder weapon. TMZ reports that the finding of the murder weapon — and its unexplained disappearance — is covered in the A&E docuseries, “Who Killed Tupac?” So, according to the findings of the series: -In 1998, a man found a .40 caliber Glock in his backyard and reported it to police. According to Compton P.D. records, it was booked into evidence on May 30th. -In 2000, the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department transferred 3,800 firearms that had been booked into evidence — including that Glock — into its own custody after taking over the policing of Compton. -In 2006, Deputy T. Brennan had been working the Notorious B.I.G. murder and was examining records. He apparently saw the record of the Glock and recognized the address at which it was found — he knew it as the home of a girlfriend of a Crips member who harbored a special dislike for Tupac. Responsibly, he ordered ballistics testing, and the results showed that the Glock was the murder weapon. However … that weapon has now vanished. It’s easy to believe that it was deliberately stolen and destroyed as part of an elaborate conspiracy. But we think that it’s easier to believe that one of two things happened: One, everyday incompetence plagues every walk of life in our world. Vital evidence gets misplaced more often than any of us would care to imagine. Two, you never know if some horribly corrupt person might have had access at some point and figured that the Glock wouldn’t be missed for years and either took it as a memento or found a buyer who wanted to own the gun that killed Tupac. (Some people have too much money and collect things that no private citizen should own, just for funsies) But ultimately, we don’t know. Was there a Crip operative who managed to get the gun smuggled out? Was it really some elaborate conspiracy involving Suge Knight’s considerable financial resources? The world may never know.

A ctivists are getting paid from protests surrounding the death of Kenneka Jenkins in a suburban Chicago hotel earlier this month, according to the teenager’s mother. “I’m ending y’all’s agendas that’s not righteous toward my child,” Tereasa Martin accused the activists in a video posted to Facebook on Sunday night. READ MORE: Kenneka Jenkins’ Mother Announces Funeral Date Martin’s claim seemingly targeted one person in particular who has been organizing daily protests outside of the Crowne Plaza hotel in Rosemont, Illinois, where Jenkins’ body was found frozen in a walk-in storage freezer on September 9. “Who else could she have been talking about?” Jedidiah Brown asked the Chicago Sun Times during a recent interview. Brown told the Sun Times that he had raised more than $6,000 to supplement any relevant legal fees. Still, Brown went ahead and organized a protest for Tuesday despite Martin’s calls for the demonstrations to end. 5440 n river road @6pm Tomorrow! Many questions still exist im going back, this is bigger thn us. Only a direct no frm mom will stop me. — Jedidiah Brown (@livelifefreed) September 26, 2017 Martin’s appeal to have the protests end came as a social media chorus grew louder wondering about the status of the investigation into Jenkins’ death. The prospects of her death going unsolved like so many other black teens before her was a main concern of many on Twitter. Poor baby & her funeral finally this weekend. — KB (@a__mirah) September 26, 2017 Jenkins’ funeral has been scheduled to take place on the South Side of Chicago on Saturday, Martin also said in the Facebook video. Meanwhile, details of the Rosemont Police Department’s investigation into Jenkins’ death have been scarce while authorities await autopsy results. The cause of death has not yet been revealed and there is no surveillance footage of her entering the freezer. The absence of both have prompted a whirlwind of conspiracy theories , which authorities have said only slowed their investigation. Martin has pleaded for the FBI to intervene and launch its own independent probe, but Rosemont police declined the participation of the federal agency. See Martin’s full Facebook video below.
