Trio of Eclipse Photos Released, Enticing

Remember that little movie franchise, The Twilight Saga? While stars Robert Pattinson , Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner have been starring in other films or signing on for future roles, production has finished on the third flick in the vampire-themed epic. As loyal viewers know, Eclipse hits theaters on June 30 and focuses on Bella’s impending high school graduation. She’s faced with the decision that’s been plaguing fans for years: Jacob or Edward? Personally, THG isn’t sure what all the fuss over Edward is about. Jacob can fix cars, has far more of a personality and looks like this with his shirt off. Hubba, hubba. Case. Closed. Below, we’ve posted a trio of new pictures from Eclipse . The first one places Bella directly between Jacob and Edward, the same difficult position she’s been in for multiple movies now…

Champagne In Corn Cups: Thank You From Vanguard

Correspondent Mariana Van Zeller and producers Darren Foster and Cerissa Tanner were honored today with a Peabody Award—electronic journalism's most distinguished prize—for their work on the Vanguard documentary “The OxyContin Express.” This morning we learned that “The OxyContin Express” will be the recipient of a Peabody Award. It’s one of the highest acheivements in our field and we’re deeply honored for being recognized and in such esteemed company. But we don’t want to let this moment pass without acknowledging the tremendous debt we owe to the people who helped us make the film. Journalism is a strange business. We sometimes ask people to share deeply personal parts of their lives in exchange for a very idealistic notion: that somehow their personal story will help to serve a greater good. Maureen and her son Tod took that brave leap of faith. And their cooperation and incredible honesty provided the emotional heart of this piece. In addition, there are many people who shared their valuable time and expertise to help us understand prescription drug abuse and what was going on in Florida and Kentucky. Several of them appeared in the documentary, many did not, but their contribution was no less valuable. In Florida, we’d like to thank Sgt. Lisa McElhaney, Sgt. Richard Pisanti and the Broward County Sheriff’s Department; Representative Kelly Skidmore; Dr. Sanford Silverman and the Task Force for Prescription Drug Abuse; Joel Kaufman and the United Way of Broward County; Pastor John Ramseur and Calvary House. In Kentucky, Greenup County Sheriff Keith Cooper was all southern charm and hospitallity. He opened the doors to everything, including the prison where Dawna, Jessica, Holly, Tiffany, Tim and Terry graciously shared their stories. Thanks also to Lt. Govenor Dan Mangiardo, Dr. John Morgan and Valerie Campbell at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead. And next door in West By God Virginia, Dr. Carl Rolly Sullivan at the home of the Mountaineers provided incredible insight into addiction and recovery. This story would have never make it off the ground without the support and care of the people who are living it everyday. We owe this incredible honor to them. And hope that in some way the piece made a difference. Thank you! —Mariana, Darren and Cerissa Watch “The OxyContin Express” here

Google Changes Name to Topeka

Go to the Google homepage, and see if you can spot something out of common. Yes, the Google logo has changed. That’s because Google has announced on its Official Google Blog that the company has officially changed its name and it’s now called Topeka. It’s all true. As a matter of fact, the company asks to use the term Google to refer to the Kansas city that changed its name from Topeka to Google last month in order to earn the right to be one of the cities where Google Topeka will experiment its 1Gbps fiber optic service. Google, Kansas served as inspiration for the rebranding of the company. Google/Topeka explains on its blog post that both the company and the city have many things in common, therefore it’s an honor to have switched names. The Mountain View based company is completely serious [wink] about the rebranding that it has even changed all sings on the Googleplex, which we’re guessing is called the Topekaplex now, from Google to Topeka. Google Topeka says that the decision was not an easy one. For instance, there are certain things that will change from now on. The company states that there might even be some consequences and even disruptions. added by: UrbanGypsy

Paige Miles Says She Got ‘Mixed Messages’ On ‘American Idol’

‘The best thing to do, really, is just do yourself,’ she says. By Katie Byrne Paige Miles Photo: FOX Most “American Idol” fans would agree that Paige Miles made it farther in the competition than anyone could have predicted. Not only was she virtually nonexistent on the show once before being named to the top 24, she also got week after week of criticism from the judges for not living up to her potential. On top of that, she struggled with laryngitis over the past two weeks. But, against all odds (sorry!), she soldiered through to the top 11, unfortunately just missing the cut for this summer’s Idols Live! Tour. Her version of the oft-covered “Against All Odds” by Phil Collins was lambasted by the judges, and voters agreed, sending her packing during Wednesday’s results show. We caught up with the bubbly schoolteacher on Thursday (March 25) to talk about the judges’ save being yanked from her before she even sang and what’s next in her career. Q : Were you upset that the judges took away the save before you sang during the results show? Did that hurt? A : Yes, it did. I initially thought the save was something that even if they’re not going to use it, you’d get the opportunity to at least sing for it, and then they make their decision. But for the statement to be made before I opened my mouth, I was pretty bummed. Q : How much power do you think the judges have over voters? A : The judges obviously have a certain amount of power over the voting public, but it also comes down to the performer delivering a good, solid performance. Tuesday night definitely wasn’t my best, and they ripped me for it. So it can go both ways, ’cause sometimes, [voters will] back up the person that the judges ripped apart if they feel that that person really delivered, but you never really know how America’s gonna vote. Q : Did you and your fellow contestants discuss how to please the judges? A : Yeah, the best thing to do, really, is just do yourself and do what makes you most comfortable, because the judges can give mixed messages. Q : A lot of critics said Miley Cyrus was too young to be a mentor on “American Idol.” How do you think she did coaching the contestants? A : I think Miley did a great job. I mean, I’m 24, so I’m older than her, but talking with her, her age didn’t come across at all. I mean, I was just speaking to her as someone else with experience doing exactly what I would like to do, so she was great. Q : Are you able to still sing with laryngitis? Because you sounded great last night, but your voice sounds really rough this morning. A : Yeah, it was bad last night [too]. It wasn’t as bad as it is now. I’ve been struggling with laryngitis for over three weeks now. I have swollen vocal cords and there’s a lot of inflammation, and with the singing and rehearsing as much as we do, I have very little time for it to heal, so it would basically get a little bit better, [and] then I would have to sing again and it would get worse again. So it’s tough when you’re in a singing competition and you have no voice. That was a bummer, and that affected my song choice at times, because I would kind of stay away from what I would typically do, like big, belty tunes like [Free’s] “All Right Now,” which I love and I’m super comfortable at, and I would kind of shy away and try to do something smaller in efforts to not … do something where I could possibly damage them. Q : Did you realize how many times “Against All Odds” had been sung on “Idol,” and did that affect your decision to sing it? A : Actually I hadn’t realized how many times it had been done. I was in rehearsals last week and was just trying to find a slower song that I wouldn’t have to stress vocally too much over, because my vocal cords were pretty much trashed, and I didn’t want to do anything too uptempo and crazy, just really trying to take care of my vocal cords if I were to keep going, but I probably should have just picked something I was super comfortable with, which is something like “All Right Now,” and just gone for it, but you live and you learn, and I was trying to make a decision for me and my health. Q : Do you feel that the lack of screen time before the semifinals hurt you? A : Well, early on, a lot of the kids were able to build a fanbase, whereas I wasn’t able to. But still, what you come out there and do on the stage really sets the tone, and if I would have delivered the way I know I could have, maybe I would still be around. So, yes and no. Q : What did you think about Simon’s comment right off the bat that you had the best voice in the competition? A : I thought it was a pretty awesome comment, so I was happy he said it. I mean, a lot of people didn’t know anything about me, they hadn’t heard me at all … so it was nice to hear him say that. Q : Are there any artists who inspire you or you’d like to model your career after? A : I wouldn’t say necessarily model my career after, ’cause I think what makes an artist great and individual is how their career has kind of … formed its own shape, which makes them stand out. But I really admire Christina Aguilera. She’s a beautiful woman, and she has an amazing voice. She’s kind of followed her own drum, which I also really like. She doesn’t put out an album every year. She takes her time, and she makes artwork out of her albums. I really admire that about her. Q : In an interview package, you revealed that coloring relaxes you before a performance. Does that come from being around kids so much? A : Yeah. We would do it in class, and it was a way to kind of calm down the room. “Idol” is very high-stress and a lot of tension and anxiety, so people usually can’t find a way to get their nerves down. If you just open up a coloring book and start coloring, you end up being kind of focused on what you’re doing, and it’s just a way to relax. Some people do yoga, some meditate, and I like to just whip out a box of crayons and color. [ Laughs. ] So it’s a little cheesy, I know, but it works. Q : It sounds relaxing! A : It really is. I can’t draw to save my life, but I can color. I can stay in the lines. Were you sad to see Paige go home? Did you think it was unfair of the judges to take the save away from her before she had the chance to sing? Let us know in the comments! Miley Cyrus Says The Internet ‘Wastes Your Life’

‘I was kind of tired of telling everyone what I’m doing,’ Cyrus says about her decision to leave Twitter last year. By Jocelyn Vena Miley Cyrus Photo: Bryan Bedder/Getty Images When Miley Cyrus left Twitter last fall — possibly at her beau and “The Last Song” co-star Liam Hemsworth ‘s request — fans were upset at not being able to keep track of the pop star’s every thought. And while they still may be mourning the loss of Cyrus’ tweets nearly six months after she said goodbye, she doesn’t regret the decision to leave one bit. “I was kind of tired of telling everyone what I’m doing,” Cyrus said in an interview with Movieline . “I hate when I read things and celebrities are complaining like, ‘I have no personal life.’ I’m like, well, that’s because you write everything that you’re doing.” Cyrus said that she realized the only person she was hurting by tweeting every moment of her life was herself. “So I was that person who was like, ‘I’m so sad. I have no real, normal life. Everyone knows what I’m doing.’ And I’m like, well that’s my own fault because I’m telling everyone,” the singer explained. “And then I’d tweet, ‘I’m here,’ and I’d wonder why a thousand fans are outside the restaurant. Well, hel lo, I just told them. So I’m just, like, kind of thinking it doesn’t really make a lot of sense. Everything I’m saying is not really going with what I’m putting on the Internet.” Cyrus explained the benefits of not constantly being on the Internet: “I’m a lot less on my phone, I’m a little bit more social. I have a lot more real friends as opposed to friends who are on the Internet who I’m talking to — which is like not cool, not safe, not fun and most likely not real. I think everything is just better when you’re not so wrapped up in [the Internet]. “I just think it’s kind of lame,” Cyrus added. “I feel like I hang out with my friends and they’re so busy taking pictures of what they’re doing and putting them on Facebook that they’re not really enjoying what they’re doing. You’re going to look back and have a million pictures, but you’re not going to be in any of them. Because you’re not having fun, you’re too busy clicking away. So I think, just enjoy the moment you’re in, and stop telling people about it. Just enjoy it.” And what advice does she have for other teens wrapped up in their online life? Well, simply to get offline and get outside. “I’m telling kids, don’t go on the Internet, it’s dangerous, it’s not fun, it wastes your life,” she said. “And you should be outside playing sports or something.” The singer/actress also revealed that when “Hannah Montana” wraps up after season four , she has no plans to ever play the pop star again. “It’s interesting to leave my security blanket behind. It was such a huge deal in so many kids’ lives,” she said. “[Hannah’s] wig is out. One will be in a museum, and one will be … burned, or something.” Related Artists Miley Cyrus

Changes to my Blogroll with a short explanation.

It is with a heavy heart that I remove Bree Palin from my blogroll. As many of you know Bree has closed down her site and is working on a big project that requires her full attention. She did NOT get chased off or threatened (as was the case with Audrey) so do not worry about her. Bree became one of my confidants and we e-mailed each other and shared information often. (I shared the picture of the ruffled ear baby with her at least two months before I posted it. THAT is how much I trusted her!) I will very much miss seeing her blog on the left side of my page when I log onto my computer every morning. And I am confident most of you will too. As for the second change to my blogroll the reasons are entirely different. For many months now I have been receiving complaints about one of the contributors to this site. From accusations that they were passing themselves off as an Alaskan blogger, to charges that they were harassing people, to their habit of leaving comments on other blogger’s sites in an attempt to hijack the thread, the complaints have numbered at least one or two a week for months now. Yet I have resisted taking them off my blogroll because they have done some fine work and I like having as many people working on revealing Palin’s lies as possible. But yesterday was the final straw. I learned yesterday that threats were made to one of my very best friends. The threat was not physical but it was a hurtful attempt to get undeserved credit for their hard work. For me that was it! The reason that I have received so many complaints is because there has been an assumption that I support this site and that we are working together. We are not! Developing trust on the blogosphere is very tricky indeed. There are a lot of people who say they are your friend and then stab you in the back. I have been blessed with some of the best friends that you can imagine (and yes Bree is one of them), but this person betrayed my trust a very long time ago and, though they were on my blogroll, they were never in my confidence. Now I am certainly not telling anybody WHO they should visit on the internet and I hope that you continue to give them your support if you like their work, but I will no longer be allowing any comments which link to them or talk about stories on their site to be posted in my comments section. And before this person decides on retaliation for my decision, I would remind them that I did NOT mention them by name, and that I left out a ton of details that I am sure they do not want revealed. I know this will upset and confuse a number of you and I apologize, I hope that you trust I did not make this decision lightly and that it is one which is long overdue. I will not be adding any more clarification to this post so please do not ask for it. Now that this unsavory business is behind us I need to focus on interviews for next week’s stories. Happy surfing my friends! The quest continues.
