Good Riddance: Indiana Man That Gave A 7 Year-Old Herpes Is Sentenced To 90 Years In the Bing!

We promise you won’t be missed!! A Muncie man who repeatedly sexually abused a 4-year-old girl, in the process infecting her with genital herpes, was sentenced Tuesday to 90 years in prison. Jarrad Lee Mastin, 23, received maximum sentences from Delaware Circuit Court 2 Judge Richard Dailey for each of three child molesting convictions. The judge also ruled that the sentences would be served consecutively. Jurors — who deliberated for about 20 minutes July 19 before convicting Mastin — viewed a videotape of a confession Mastin gave to police. The victim’s grandmother testified that after the girl was found to be suffering from the venereal disease, the child recounted secret “night-time games” that she had played with the defendant. Mastin — who did not testify at his trial — on Tuesday said he regretted his actions, but he maintained he did not have genital herpes, test results showing otherwise aside. The victim’s grandfather testified Tuesday that the now-7-year-old victim prays each night that other children be protected from what Mastin did to her. Aware of her infection, the grandfather said, the girl sometimes asks, “Will I ever be pretty?” Is 90 years really enough time for this piece of sh!t?? Should he have gotten life or the death penalty??? Source

Dr. Conrad Murray Seeking Jury Sequestration, Protection From "Character Assassination"

Dr. Conrad Murray’s legal team believes sequestering the jury is the only way to ensure his fair trial in the Michael Jackson manslaughter case. Charged with involuntarily causing the King of Pop’s death, Murray wants the court protect him and the system from “character assassinations.” The name Nancy Grace has come up more than once from Murray’s lawyers, citing the case of Casey Anthony , who ended up walking in July. Dr. Conrad Murray ‘s lawyers say the only reason the Anthony jurors were unswayed by the media skewering of Anthony was because they were sequestered. According to documents, Grace and others engaged in “nonstop on-air abuse of not only the defendant, but the jurors and defense attorneys involved.” The legal docs claim , “There is reasonable expectation that Dr. Murray’s trial will be the most publicized in history,” and that of the several hundred jurors polled during jury selection, only one claimed not to have heard of the case. Judge Michael Pastor said last month he would consider sequestering the jury, although he felt it was unnecessary and expensive. Stay tuned … [Photo: WENN.com]

Vinny Guadagnino: Back in the Jersey Shore House!

Vinny Guadagnino has returned to Jersey Shore. His self-imposed hiatus at home on Staten Island lasted roughly 10 days, but he’s reportedly back in the mix. The reality star enjoyed dinner and drinks over the weekend in Seaside Heights with his roommates, who banded together in an attempt to woo him back . After Vinny peaced out July 4th weekend, he said he was done with Jersey Shore . Apparently he had a change of heart after dining with Snooki & Co. The cast, who just returned from filming Season 4 in Italy, was put right to work on Season 5 back in the Garden State. Tension arose early and often. Vinny left following an altercation with a cast member, the details of which have not been made public. But it sounds like that was the tip of the iceberg. Guadagnino was reportedly not happy being bossed around by MTV execs, and threatened to leave, saying he was “homesick” and feeling “burned out.” The Situation stirred up similar reports when he ripped off his mic and walked off the set last week after an altercation with his co-stars and producers. In any case, Guadagnino returned . Sitch is still MIA. Stay tuned. [Photo: Pacific Coast News]

Casey Anthony Video Deemed "Too Inflammatory" For Trial May Soon Be Released

A judge is considering whether to unseal a video of Casey Anthony considered so inflammatory that it would have infringed upon her right to a fair trial. The jailhouse video shows Anthony reacting to news reports that a child’s body had been found in a swampy area near the family’s Florida property. The tape reportedly shows Casey doubled over and hyperventilating when Orange County jail officials reveal that a body was found near the home. Too inflammatory to be played for a jury? What the heck is on that tape? It’s not like the videos that were played (such as below) were flattering … Casey Anthony Jail Video At the time of the December 11, 2008 video, the body was not yet identified as the remains of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee Marie Anthony. The court took what is called an “unusual step” and sealed the video on June 17, 2009 claiming the public seeing it would violate Casey’s rights. The court “could not absolutely protect the defendant’s right to a fair trial” if the “inflammatory” tape got out, according to the order to seal it . Casey Anthony was found not guilty last week of charges of killing Caylee and is now scheduled to be released from jail this Sunday night. Regarding the video and whether it will be released now, Orlando television station WKMG-TV Local 6 filed the request to unseal the tape. WKMG-TV made the request July 6, arguing “that with the jury is sequestered, no prejudice to the defendant’s right to a fair trial could incur.” While other pieces of evidence could be seen as damaging, the court said “no other item … would carry a similar inflammatory impact.” If released, the tape could spark more outrage surrounding the verdict. Casey Anthony death threats have been common in recent days. In the past week, the jury , Anthony family and Judge Belvin Perry have received threats regarding the case in addition to Casey herself. Anthony’s highly-anticipated release from jail on Sunday has already prompted concerns for her safety and calls for extra protection.

Kim Kardashian "Truly Sick" Over Casey Anthony Verdict

In a verdict many feel is on par with the stunning decision to acquit O.J. Simpson, Casey Anthony was found not guilty of murdering her two-year old daughter today. The result has left one avid viewer of the proceedings in shock: Kim Kardashian. The daughter of one of Simpson’s lawyer Tweeted this afternoon: “WHAT!!!!???!!!! CASEY ANTHONY FOUND NOT GUILTY!!!! I am speechless!!!” In between X-Raying her ass, Kim Kardashian found time to weigh in on the Casey Anthony trial. Kim later added: ”I am truly sick over the Casey Anthony verdict! So if the courts don’t believe she is guilty then who do they think killed this little baby?” “Is this now an open case? Do they attempt to arrest someone else? I am so confused! How do these jurors not believe she’s guilty????” We’re as stunned as anyone, but just to answer Kim’s hard-hitting questions: 1. That’s not how a court case works. The jury deals with the defendant on trial, not the hypothetical questions of who else could be responsible; 2. Yes, of course it’s an open case now. By the way, O.J. totally killed his ex-wife and her boyfriend.

Caylee Anthony Was Murdered, Coroner Says in Court

Caylee Anthony was murdered. So stated Dr. Jan Garavaglia, a semi-famous coroner, who testified in court today during the Casey Anthony trial. The defense has been arguing that the two-year old daughter of their defendant died of an accidental drowning, but there’s “no other logical conclusion” aside from homicide, said Garavaglia, the Orange County chief medical examiner. How can Garavaglia state this as a fact? She reached the conclusion based on the condition of Caylee’s remains and other factors, including the discovery of duct tape around her skull. Casey’s attorney, Cheney Mason, tried to move Garavaglia away from her findings, but the doctor shot back: “Accidental deaths are reported unless there is a reason for it not to be… 100 percent of the time… that’s systematic observational studies.” With her voice rising, and with her testimony cutting into the defense’s key argument, Garavaglia added: “No child should have duct tape on its mouth when it dies.”

Baby Mama Drama: Mel Gibson Files For Restraining Order Against Oksana Grigorieva

Mel Gibson has filed for a restraining order against Oksana Grigorieva, his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his eighth child (but not the first seven, whose mother he was married to when he knocked Oksana up, like all upstanding folks do). The actor lodged the paperwork under seal at the Los Angeles Superior Court in Downtown Los Angeles Thursday. The plaintiff is listed as Mel Gibson and the defendant is Oksana Grigorieva, the mother of his seven-month-old girl. Grigorieva was served the documents at her home. The case is sealed, meaning the documents cannot be released to the public, but reports say the complaint centers around three issues and Gibson’s access to daughter Lucia. Mel and Oksana in happier, home-wrecking times . Mel Gibson filed for a temporary restraining order, a notice about a forthcoming court hearing as well as a notice of visitation rights and child custody. He and Oksana Grigorieva , a Russian musician-singer, split in April after over a year of dating. Their split was described as amicable … at that time. However, Grigorieva hinted the break-up was complicated: “We have split up, suddenly and recently… Unfortunately, I cannot give you the reason.” “But you will find out everything quite soon.” Last year, Gibson’s wife Robyn filed for divorce after 30 years of marriage, right around when Mel and Grigorieva conceived their child together.

Unattractive defendants receive longer sentences – the American Jury System

Well, here's one more argument for an overhaul of the jury system in America. According to a Cornell University study, a physically unattractive defendant is likely to receive a harsher sentence than a more attractive defendant – a prison sentence up to 22 months longer, on average, for a similar crime. The study looks at two kinds of jurors – those who process information rationally and without regard for the appearance of the defendant, and jurors who process information emotionally, giving harsher verdicts and sentencing based upon their perception of the physical attributes of the defendant. Author Justin Gunnell '05, J.D. '08, who began working on the study as a policy analysis and management major with co-author Stephen Ceci, and Cornell's Helen L. Carr Professor of Developmental Psychology were determined to find out why there have been reports of such disparities for decades. Using 169 Cornell undergraduates, the scientists determined those individuals who processed information rationally, using facts, analysis and reason, and those who based their decisions on emotion which factored in irrelevant factors such as race, gender and class, and who reported that a “less attractive” person would be “more likely” the kind of person who would commit a crime. The study concluded with the participants looking at an actual case file and photograph, jury instructions and closing arguments and rendering his or her verdict and sentencing accordingly. (In fairness, this inconsistency was reported in those cases with ambiguous evidence or lesser charged offenses; in other words, not in cases where there was harder evidence more determinative of guilt). Since in the American justice system, attorneys have an opportunity to screen jurors for specific reasons, and for a limited number of non-specific reasons, this study might be useful, in designing questions or challenges that get to the heart of a prospective juror's mindset, but can we ever ensure a jury system without predisposition, whether for race, gender, class or attractiveness? Should we even be surprised by this study, with what we, as laymen, know of human nature? This tosses another ball into the court of proponents for professional jurors – with its own set of drawbacks, but arguably a more plausible solution to justice in the courtroom. http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/6015099-unattractive-defendants-receiv… added by: Stoneyroad
