So there’s a new Pacific Rim trailer out. It’s not a whole lot different from the last one that was released, and, like the last one, it leaves me with one big suspension-of-disbelief problem. I can’t say I’m a student of the whole Gundam/Jaeger/Voltron school of big bad-ass mechanical suits, but every time I see the scene — that’s been in both trailers — in which two side-by-side soldiers operate the legs of the fighting machine by running in place, I have to ask, why would any defense contractor build a weapon that would requite more than one independent-thinking individual to operate it? I know that there’s some kind of neural piloting system called “pons” that keeps everyone in the Jaeger operating as one, but, I mean, those soldiers look pretty strapped in place. What if one of them gets a cramp? It looks like Guillermo Del Toro is going for a Real Steel meets Fritz Lang’s Metropolis by way of Michael Bay’s Transformers -type vibe, but I keep thinking that, on a logical level, operating one of these Jaegers would be a coordination nightmare, particularly in the heat of battle. And if I had Idris Elba yelling in my earpiece all day, I’d have an even bigger problem staying in sync. Also, if you look at this Defense Advanced Projects Research Agency (DARPA) video, the future of robotic warfare looks like the only humans required will be those operating the remote controls. (That AlphaDog just won’t go down.) Why make it more complicated than that? A transgender woman is in court over claims her boyfriend delivered a violent beatdown after discovering she was carrying an STD and working as an escort. The relationship had actually started as a love match made in heaven, both sides agree. She started life as a troubled Spanish Catholic boy in Queens, the prosecutor told jurors, leaving home to start turning tricks on the street at age 14. Murphy was the son of a retired FDNY deputy chief, the defense lawyer told jurors — abandoned by mom, never close to dad, often “taking solace in alcohol,” and harboring a staggering secret. “The secret is that Taylor is bi and is specifically attracted to and dates people who are transsexual,” the lawyer told jurors. The secret, in other words, is “being a gay man in the very heterosexual, very macho world of the FDNY.” Murphy, has served stints at Engine 59 and the elite Ladder Co. 1, considered Miss Charriez “his soul mate,” and “the love of his life,” the lawyer told jurors. “He told her he had seen her on TV, and had already dated transgender girls before,” the prosecutor told jurors of the fateful Summer 2008 chance meeting between the tranny-loving, smoke-eater and the heavily-breast-implanted blonde. “The relationship unfortunately went south when Taylor discovered she was sick with a venereal disease” the defense lawyer explained to jurors, “and was working as a prostitute. Because he loved her he begged her to stop working as an escort. But his pleas fell on deaf ears.” He started seeing other trannies. Charriez then embarked on a campaign of threats and allegations, months prior to the ones at hand, the defense lawyer said. But the prosecution counters that the breakup — and the final blow-out at the West 56th Street hotel — was spurred by the firefighter’s drunken jealousy. On the night of their violent clashing, the pair had wandered into Flashdancers in Times Square, where indiscretion piled on indiscretion. Somehow, Murphy wound up with a dancer on his lap. Somehow, his surgically-enhanced date wound up chatting up sundry patrons, who mistook her, understandably enough, for an employee. They stormed outside. “She called him a f—-t –” fighting words given his firehouse insecurities, the prosecutor told jurors. “She started screaming “Rape! Rape!” the defense lawyer told jurors. They would angrily dash back to their room — in separate cabs — but not before Murphy allegedly slammed his date into a phone booth and dragged her down the sidewalk by the hair, either briefly or the length of four full city blocks, depending on which of the tranny’s accounts is relied on. Then, eventually, they would kiss, and cry, and make up, right there on the bed, right after their violent fight, prosecutors concede. “She realized she could not stop him,” the prosecutor said. “She began to cry and she pulled him closer to her, then he started crying and they sat up in the room for several minutes,” he said. But the two made immediate plans to see each other the very next afternoon, the defense lawyer says. They saw each other again, a few days after that, prosecutors concede. Murphy is charged with felony strangulation and felony violation of an order of protection barring him from contacting his alleged victim — which prosecutors say Murphy in fact did 1,400 times, in the form of texts and phone calls, between Dec. 2011 and February 2012. The trial is before Manhattan Supreme Court Justice A Kirke Bartley. This sounds like a hot mess. Tell us more! Just kidding… Who do you think is at fault? George Zimmerman’s autograph is being sold to fund his defense in the high-profile Trayvon Martin murder case … just in case you thought you’d heard everything. Yes, the man who shot and killed Trayvon Martin is sending personally signed thank-you cards to anyone who donates money to his legal defense fund. Each card will be individually signed by George, the identity of all donors will be kept confidential, and the envelope of the cards will not bear his name. Just in case you don’t want the mailman finding out. Why go this route? He’s burdened with hefty “living expenses and legal costs,” according to GZDefenseFund (dot) com, though this claim is debatable. Donors who support George Zimmerman ‘s self-defense claim have reportedly already raised hundreds of thousands for his defense and protection. In any case, Zimmerman will plead not guilty to second-degree murder, citing Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law, at a hearing that could happen as soon as April.
Close to 19 months after the Osama Bin Laden death photo that rocked the world, new details have emerged regarding this terrorist’s burial at sea. Under the Freedom of Information Act, The Associated Press obtained numerous emails yesterday that – though heavily blacked out – indicated no sailors watched the water-based ceremony from the USS Carl Vinson and Islamic procedures were followed throughout. Bin Laden, of course, was gunned down on May 1, 2011, by a Navy SEAL team at his compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. According to one message from the aforementioned ship’s public affairs officer, only a few crew members were informed of the burial. “Traditional procedures for Islamic burial was followed,” the May 2nd email from Rear Adm. Charles Gaouette said. “The deceased’s body was washed (ablution) then placed in a white sheet. The body was placed in a weighted bag. A military officer read prepared religious remarks, which were translated into Arabic by a native speaker. After the words were complete, the body was placed on a prepared flat board, tipped up, whereupon the deceased’s body slid into the sea.” It’s also interesting to note how those in the know referred to bin Laden’s corpse as the “package” over emails. For security purposes, of course. The Associated Press also asked for photographs of videos taken during the raid that killed this evil leader, but the Defense Department has said nothing of that sort can be located.

Very interesting question… Journalist Allison Samuels Asks “What If George Zimmerman Was Black Making his first television network appearance last night on Fox News, a perfectly coifed George Zimmerman apologized for killing 17-year-old Trayvon Martin—while in the same breath admitted he’d do nothing different if he had the chance. As Zimmerman, who appeared dazed during parts of the interview, discussed the events that led to the death of an unarmed high-school student simply walking home from the 7-Eleven, it was difficult to imagine a similar chain of events occurring if the tables were turned. Just prior to yesterday’s interview, Zimmerman’s lawyer Mark O’Mara released a statement boldly admitting that part of the reason for the appearance on Fox was to raise money for his client’s defense. Zimmerman has already received a pretty staggering amount of donations since his arrest this past April. So much so that in June, his bail was revoked due to the fact he failed to report at least $150,000 in an online account donated from his many supporters. What if every criminal was allowed a prime time interview in order to raise money for his or her defense? Let’s take it further. Imagine for just a moment if Zimmerman were a black man (Zimmerman is the product of a white father and Hispanic mother). He shoots and kills an unarmed white teenager because said teenager “appeared” to be acting suspicious in his neighborhood community one night. Though the now dead teenager has only a cell phone, Skittles, and iced tea on him, the black man who pulled the trigger not only gets to go home that very night, but he remains free for another 44 days, reportedly because of a self-defense law called “stand your ground.” Only marches and public outcry by white leaders lead to his arrest, but he isn’t in jail long. Even after it’s revealed that he wasn’t truthful with the court about his finances and ability to flee the country, he’s freed once again and then given an extended Hollywood-style interview on a top-rated news program to tell his ever changing story. …Would anyone honestly give a 28-year-old black man the benefit of the doubt telling the same story when a Sanford police officer filed a report that night stating clearly that this tragedy was avoidable had Zimmerman just followed instructions and stayed in his car? Would Fox or any other major news channel dare give him 40 minutes to explain away the senseless death of someone’s child who’d done nothing but walk home from the store with a hoodie on while being black? What network would offer a black man a chance to “humanize” himself in an effort to raise more money for his defense for murdering someone whom he deemed “unfit” for his neighborhood but had committed no crime? And would thousands of strangers send money to support a black man who instead of showing real remorse to the parents of the teenager killed by saying he’d do anything to avoid their child dying at his hands, actually had the gall to say on TV that it was God’s will that the events of that night happened? As Trayvon Martin’s father Tracy said in a statement late last night, “We must worship a different God.’’ Imagine anyone being truly sympathetic to a black man who admitted he never once identified himself to the teenager as a member of the neighborhood watch, which may have given the teenager a very real reason to be afraid for his own life. It’s difficult to believe anyone would be so sympathetic if the tables were indeed turned, and the faces of the accused and the deceased were reversed. But sadly, George Zimmerman is and will continue to be a hero to far too many willing and ready to believe that an unarmed young black teenager minding his own business got exactly what he deserved when he was shot to death that February night.
