Rihanna Cancels More Shows As Concert Industry Struggles

Jonas Brothers, American Idols Live! outings have also seen slow sales. By Gil Kaufman Rihanna Photo: Fotonoticias/ WireImage By now you’ve heard about the slump the concert industry is in this summer. Major tours are struggling and canceling dates, including Rihanna , who this week called off shows in two cities — Denver and Indianapolis — on her Last Girl on Earth Tour due to “scheduling conflicts” after earlier canceling the planned July 2 kickoff . According to a new report from Pollstar magazine, tickets sales for the biggest concert tours in North America during the first half of the year fell to their lowest point since 2005 due to a weak economy and high ticket prices. The top 100 tours grossed $965.5 million during the first six months, which is a 17 percent decline from the same period a year ago and the lowest total since the first half of 2005, when concerts grossed $731 million. The slide was blamed on poor sales on tours by the Eagles, the Jonas Brothers and the American Idols Live! outing, all of which have either been offering deep discounts on tickets or canceling shows outright due to low demand. Add that to cancellations of tours by Christina Aguilera , the Go-Go’s and Limp Bizkit and the axing of 10 dates by the revamped Lilith tour and you have a summer season that is sucking wind after the touring industry put up record numbers in 2009. According to the Live Nation website , in addition to the Denver and Indy dates, Rihanna has also pulled shows in Phoenix (July 22), Dallas (July 24) and Atlanta (July 28). On the upside, tours by Lady Gaga , Justin Bieber, Muse, Taylor Swift and James Taylor with Carole King have been doing very well at the box office. The top-grossing show this year so far was the Coachella festival, which drew 225,000 fans and grossed $21.7 million. Bon Jovi put up the best numbers of a North American tour with $52.8 million in grosses, followed by Taylor and King at $41 million and Swift at $34.2 million. Illegals rob elderly citizen, citizen fires gun, prosecutors charge the citizen–and not the illegals

This is a CLASSIC example of how, in cities like Denver where the politicians have promoted sanctuary city policies, illegal aliens are given more rights than citizens. There is a local news video on the page below: http://www.kdvr.com/news/kdvr-elderly-man-shoots-thieves-txt,0,1105363.story *** Elderly man facing serious charges for shooting at thieves Julie Hayden Investigative Reporter 7:22 PM MDT, July 7, 2010 WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. – Legal analyst Dan Recht said he believes the Jefferson County District Attorney is “seriously overcharging” a Wheat Ridge homeowner, accused of attempted first degree murder for shooting at two thieves. 82-year-old Robert Wallace said he fired two shots at two men when they tried to run him over while stealing his flatbed trailer. Wallace now faces twelve felony counts, including four counts of attempted first degree murder, for what he described as an act of defending his property and his life. If convicted, he could spend the rest of his life in prison. One of the thieves, Damacio Torres later admitted to the theft. He and his partner in crime, Alvara Cardano both have prior arrest records and are believed to be in the country illegally. But they are not facing any charges. Recht said, in his experience, prosecutors overcharge cases to force a person to plea bargain. He argued that it's just not right to put a person through that kind of mental and financial stress. Jefferson County DA, Scott Storey, indicated he'll take a closer look at his office's decision to throw the book at the homeowner and hinted the charges could be reduced. He said the investigation continues into the confessed thieves. *** There are additional details you need to know: 1) the two illegal aliens had many prior arrests for theft. At one point recently they stole a $60,000 piece of farm equipment on a trailer in a very similar theft. 2) investigators said they believe the two criminals are part of a car theft ring, and wanted the trailer for additional thefts. 3) the driver of the truck was hit by a bullet and is now paralized, and wants to sue the elderly man “for everything he has” 4) First Degree Murder is a capital punishment offense, so this 82 year old gentleman could go to jail for the rest of his life or even receive the death penalty for defending his life and property. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070817192825AAdnJoq 5) In interviews on Denver radio programs, local defense lawyers, former prosecutors and former Congressmen in colorado have stated that had the “victims” been anything other than illegal immigrants, Mr Wallace would not be charged at all. 6) the prosecuting attorneys have pressed NO CHARGES against the illegal immigrant theives. Cambodia Sings

Today Shannon, Heather and I get back on the road and begin what will most likely be the most hectic and exciting three months of our lives. The last couple of weeks has given me more time to reflect on the world, what’s at stake in this election, and how proud I am of my family. Of course, I’m proud of my parents. I’m also very proud of my brothers, who are serving our country in the Armed Forces, and my sister, who is entering her senior year of high school and has so much to look forward to as she gets ready to begin a new chapter of her life. With that in mind, here’s the latest video from Shannon that chronicles our trip to Southeast Asia with Mom and highlights her inspiring devotion to charities that seek to ease the pain of those suffering across the globe. I am truly blessed. And, I want the world to know how much we appreciate our fans’ support. See you out on the trail!

West Virginia and Ohio

We started off the day at the famed Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia where Dad spoke to the University’s Thundering Herd football players during practice and even called some plays for the team. The drive to the campus was breathtaking and I played John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” on the bus stereo system as we made our way to Huntington.  Our next stop was at a cabinet factory in Jackson, Ohio where we went on a tour and Dad held a press conference.  This afternoon, we stopped by a local fire station where Dad chatted with the firemen on duty and brought them some pizza.  We spent the entire day traveling by bus, rather than by plane; it’s my favorite way to experience the campaign trail because we’re able to see so many local sights and meet people along the way. On a much more serious note, we would like to give a “get well soon” shout out to our bus driver, Johnny, who recently underwent triple bypass surgery.  We want him to know that he’s in all of our thoughts and prayers and we hope he makes a speedy recovery! Song of the Day: “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver

Meth, Porn Used by Offshore Drilling Agency Staff

WASHINGTON – Staff members at an agency that oversees offshore drilling accepted tickets to sports events, lunches and other gifts from oil and gas companies and used government computers to view pornography, according to an Interior Department report alleging a culture of cronyism between regulators and the industry. In at least one case, an inspector for the Minerals Management Service admitted using crystal methamphetamine and said he might have been under the influence of the drug the next day at work, according to the report by the acting inspector general of the Interior Department. The report cites a variety of violations of federal regulations and ethics rules at the agency's Louisiana office. Previous inspector general investigations have focused on inappropriate behavior by the royalty-collection staff in the agency's Denver office. The report adds to the climate of frustration and criticism facing the Obama administration in the monthlong oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, although it covers actions before the spill. Millions of gallons of oil are gushing into the Gulf, endangering wildlife and the livelihoods of fishermen, as scrutiny intensifies on a lax regulatory climate. The report began as a routine investigation, the acting inspector general, Mary Kendall, said in a cover letter to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, whose department includes the agency. “Unfortunately, given the events of April 20 of this year, this report had become anything but routine, and I feel compelled to release it now,” she wrote. Her biggest concern is the ease with which minerals agency employees move between industry and government, Kendall said. While no specifics were included in the report, “we discovered that the individuals involved in the fraternizing and gift exchange — both government and industry — have often known one another since childhood,” Kendall said. Their relationships took precedence over their jobs, Kendall said. The report follows a 2007 investigation that revealed what then-Inspector General Earl Devaney called a “culture of ethical failure” and conflicts of interest at the minerals agency. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100525/ap_on_bi_ge/us_gulf_oil_spill_washington added by: JohnA
