‘Dancing With The Stars’ Recap: Nicole Scherzinger, Evan Lysacek Keep Shining

Pussycat Doll and the Olympian are still miles ahead of other two stars in the semifinal round. By Kelley L. Carter Derek Hough and Nicole Scherzinger on “Dancing with the Stars” Photo: ABC For Monday night’s semifinals of “Dancing With the Stars,” the remaining couples had to compete in two rounds — ballroom and Latin — to impress judges. The performances resulted in a dead heat for first place between Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger and Olympian Evan Lysacek, who were both just one point shy of a total perfect score. The first couple to hit the floors was ESPN reporter Erin Andrews and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Judge Len Goodman was impressed with their Viennese waltz. He told the duo that the fight for the finals is in effect. Bruno Tonioli commented on Andrews’ improvement. Tonioli caused a bit of confusion when he accidentally held up a 10 paddle — he meant to give them a 9 — and Chmerkovskiy mock fainted. For their second round, they danced the paso doble, and the judges weren’t too keen on Andrews’ solo at the beginning. Score: 56/60 Favorite Scherzinger and partner Derek Hough took the stage next, performing a rather flawless Argentine tango. Tonioli said the Pussycat Doll was like “a divine enchantress,” and Carrie Ann Inaba told the pop singer “what you are doing is incredible.” The duo scored a perfect 30/30 for their tango, and when they came back for their cha cha to Prince’s hit “Kiss,” they barely missed a beat. Goodman said without question, Scherzinger deserved to be in the finals. Score: 59/60 Cincinnati Bengals player Chad Ochocinco and partner Cheryl Burke chose the waltz for the ballroom round. Inaba told Ochocinco that he nailed the dance. Goodman seemed equally impressed, noting that the football star is the only celeb in the semifinals without any dance experience. They took on the samba for dance number two, a dance that judges said was the toughest of the night. Tonioli joked that after seeing Ochocinco dance with his shirt open, he “will never take my clothes off again!” Score: 52/60 Lysacek and his partner Anna Trebunskaya picked the foxtrot, trying to add the emotion the skater hadn’t yet expressed in dance. Tonioli was impressed, saying that he wasn’t aware that Lysacek had that kind of vitality in him. Inaba said that he was engaged the entire time, something that had been missing from his pristine dance moves. For their second time out, the couple did a paso doble that Tonioli called strong, yet artistic. Dance number two earned a perfect score, for a 59/60 total. Cheryl Cole Being Courted By Disney

Singer Cheryl Cole is reportedly being eyed up by Disney bosses and could join Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez as their next ‘tweenie’ star. Cole, 26, recently took a trip to the Disney studios while filming her new music video in LA with dancer Derek Hough executives at The House of Mouse were impressed according to a source speaking with UK newspaper Daily Mirror . “Cheryl is the full package. She’s got it all – brains, beauty and a hint of bolshieness. It’s unbelievable the level of interest she stirred up in the Disney Studios following her trips to LA, where she was making her recent music video. That “Parachute” video with Derek Hough, who is massive in the States because of Dancing with the Stars , really showed just how graceful and dynamic she can be.” We love us some Cheryl Cole, but isn’t she a little out of Disney’s age range?

Dancing with the Stars Recap: Evan Lysacek Sets the Gold Standard

Evan Lysacek is not interested in silver medals. Having already conquered the Winter Olympics in figure skating, the 24-year-old is looking to pair his gold medal with a silver Dancing with the Stars disco ball. If last night is any indication, he’s the man to beat. He and Anna Trebunskaya bested the field by a considerable margin and got a standing O for the quickstep. Also cementing their status as contenders this season were Nicole Scherzinger, the first two weeks’ top scorer , and Erin Andrews, who showed grace and poise. Despite threats from a crazy stalker , Erin is no quitter, and she and Maksim Chmerkovskiy tied Nicole and Derek Hough for Monday’s second-highest scores. At the bottom of the heap were Buzz Aldrin, predictably, and Kate Gosselin, who didn’t exactly make Tony Dovolani look like Babe Ruth with his predictions . Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya stood (and sat) alone.

Happy Birthday, Perez Hilton!

Mario Armando Lavandeira, Jr., was born 32 years ago today. Who would have guessed this Miami native would one day become the biggest name in celebrity gossip . The Hollywood Gossip has clashed with Perez on numerous occasions about a wife variety of issues, namely everything printed on his website, but today is his day. When he gets his a$$ whomped the next time, we won’t be shedding any tears, and we’ll keep calling him out for hurting his own causes, but give the man his due. Not only has he become the face of an entire genre, he keeps things really entertaining. Particularly when he gets assaulted or sued. Those stories are the best. Dancing with the Stars Recap: Nicole, Evan & Erin Shine

Dancing with the Stars kicked off its 10th iteration last night with its best cast in several seasons. The season premiere offered some standouts and some bombs. Eliminations aren’t until next week, which is fortunate for Aiden Turner, who would likely be sent home as Kate Gosselin and Buzz Aldrin will get sympathy votes. As expected (by THG, anyway), Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough led the pack. She’s kind of a dancer for a living, so this was not exactly a stunner. Same goes for Evan Lysacek, who may not be a dancer, but makes a career out of being agile. Erin Andrews and Pam Anderson? Pleasant surprises! Here’s a tiered breakdown of last night’s Dancing with the Star s scores … Early favorites Nicole Scherzinger & Derek Hough – Viennese Waltz. Score: 25 (9,7,9). Evan Lysacek & Anna Trebunskaya – Viennese Waltz. Score: 23 (8,7,8). Erin Andrews & Maksim Chmerkovskiy – Cha Cha. Score: 21 (7,7,7). Pamela Anderson & Damien Whitewood – Cha Cha. Score: 21 (7,6,8). The judges were kind to Nicole, Evan and Erin last night . Showing potential Jake Pavelka & Chelsie Hightower. Score: 20 (7,6,7). Chad Ochocinco & Cheryl Burke – Cha Cha. Score: 18 (6,6,6). Shannen Doherty & Mark Ballas – Viennese Waltz. Score: 18 (6,6,6). Niecy Nash & Louis Van Amstel – Cha Cha. Score: 18 (7,5,6). Eh … Kate Gosselin & Tony Dovolani – Viennese Waltz. Score: 16 (6,5,5).
