Friday Box Office: Apes Rise Against The Help and Final Destination 5

Consider this the big screen version of gridlock. The simians from Rise of the Planet of the Apes headed a crowded box office on Friday night earning $7.8 million in ticket sales, though both The Help ($7.5 million) and Final Destination 5 ($7.3 million) stayed within striking distance of the No. 1 spot. As for the other newcomers, 30 Minutes or Less earned enough to land in fourth place, while Glee: The 3D Concert Movie took a slushie to the face in sixth. Your Friday Box Office is here.

As William Bludworth, the coroner who’s witnessed many a teenager attempt to cheat fate in Final Destination , Final Destination 2 , and this Friday’s 3-D sequel Final Destination 5 , actor Tony Todd carries an eerie, prescient look in his eyes — the look of a man who knows Death’s secrets. Of course, Todd has plenty of experience himself toying with the agency of death in cinema, having starred in countless horror films, from the iconic Candyman series to the Night of the Living Dead remake to Adam Green’s Hatchet and Hatchet II . Using Her Cakes For The Forces Of Good: Rihanna Is The New Tourism Ambassador For Barbados

Ever see those pictures of Rih Rih on the beach and wish you were with her? Well, just go to Barbados and that could happen. Rihanna is using her enticing cakes to get the world to want to come visit Barbados. All of those pictures of her on the beach are making people want to visit, so the country is making her the new tourism ambassador. Here’s her take: “Barbados is a place like no other and one of the reasons for this is the spirit and national pride of our people. I want each and every visitor to this beautiful island to experience what makes this destination different from all others and that is the spirit and warmth of my fellow Barbadians.” You have to admit that Rih Rih has done a lot for the country’s appeal. Every time we see her prancing those cakes, we want to book a flight and catch her on the sand. Rihanna’s first act of duty is to bring her Loud tour there in August. As long as this means we’ll see more Rihanna in bikinis, we’re all for it.

But, no, the reality star did not physically attack Adolfo Arreola and Jason Gomez during the fight, as those two claim in a lawsuit filed Monday . “They acted in self defense,” said Jim Kridel, the lawyer for Teresa and Joe Giudice, acknowledging that his clients exchanged words with other patrons, but saying neither instigated any violence. Rihanna Named Barbados Tourism Ambassador

Barbados’ native daughter has been declared a tourism ambassador for the island nation. Rihanna definitely brings star power to the position! RiRi’s Caribbean heritage was a major part of her early appeal in the “Pon de Replay” days, and remains a big part of who she is as a person. Now the star is getting back in touch with her roots, inking a deal with the Barbados Tourism Authority to promote her beautiful homeland . “Barbados is a place like no other and one of the reasons for this is the spirit and national pride of our people,” Rihanna said in a statement. “I want every visitor to experience what makes this destination different from all others and that is the spirit and warmth of my fellow Barbadians.” The Barbados Tourism Authority said via Facebook: “We are proud to announce that musical sensation and social phenomenon Rihanna has partnered with the Barbados Tourism Authority as an exclusive promotional partner for three years. “Celebrate this amazing announcement today by joining us on August 5th as she brings her Loud tour to Bridgetown, Barbados, her homeland.” [Photo: WENN.com]
