Justin Bieber: Never Say Never

Review & Description Justin Bieber: Never Say Never is the inspiring, entertaining and intimate look at the life and meteoric rise of pop phenomenon Justin Bieber. From small town boy to global super-star, Never Say Never follows Justin Bieber’s journey from his early years, to his rise from break-out internet sensation to global super-star, culminating with a sold-out show at the famed Madison Square Garden. More than just a concert, Never Say Never is a captivating, cinematic event featuring all-star musical talent including, Usher, Jaden Smith, Ludacris, and more! Never underestimate the power of perseverance, social media, good hair, and a winning smile. Small town boy Justin Bieber is a young musician (16 years old at the time of this film’s release) who started out goofing around on the drums at home as a young child and posting videos on You Tube as a preteen. With the help of producer Scooter Braun, he has rocketed to the status of pop phenomenon, performing for a sold-out house at the coveted Madison Square Garden in less than two years. Part documentary, part concert video, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never combines archival home videos with live concert footage; interviews with everyone from Justin’s young single mother and his grandparents to his vocal coach “Mama Jan” Smith, pop icon and actor Usher, and producer Braun; and way too much footage of squealing, overwrought preteen female fans (the latter will likely cause one’s eyes to spontaneously roll back in one’s head and trigger a gag reflex unless one happens to be a 10- to 12-year-old girl). Showcased are Bieber’s early visits to every radio station imaginable; his life backstage, on the road, and during a rare visit with his friends back home; the determination of those around him to keep his life as normal as possible; and lots of up-close footage of his concerts. Throughout the 10 days preceding his Garden debut, guest artists like Miley Cyrus, Usher, Jaden Smith, and Boyz II Men join Bieber onstage for collaborative performances of songs including “Overboard,” “Somebody to Love,” “Never Say Never,” and “U Smile.” Bieber also deals with the stress and pain of a throat infection that causes him to cancel his first show ever and threatens to prevent him from honoring his performance date at the Garden. Finally, the day of the Madison Square Garden performance arrives and viewers are treated to a great sampling of Bieber’s powerful performance. The film does a good job of chronicling Bieber’s rise to stardom, but let’s face it, his career has spanned less than two years as of this film, so there’s not really all that much to say in a movie that lasts almost two hours. But even if you’re not a rabid Justin Bieber fan, you have to admit the kid has talent and you’ve got to respect his incredible journey. Fox News Military Analyst Comes Out As Birther

August's slow-news period would have seemed to me to be a prime period for some sort of Birther flare-up, but just past the deadline comes the news that Lieutenant General Thomas McInerney has signed an affidavit in support of Lt. Col. Terry Lakin. Lakin — a Birther cause-celebre — is facing a court martial after refusing to report for deployment to Afghanistan because he doesn't believe President Barack Obama is eligible to be President of the United States. It's one of the more unfortunate instances of Birther Kool-Aid overdose. And now, McInerney has jumped aboard. Dave Weigel reports that McInerney is — or at least was — “a serious person”: “He's a West Point graduate who ran the Alaskan air command during the Exxon Valdez disaster.” Of course, he also contributes to Fox News as a military analyst. Per Media Matters: McInerney has been interviewed on Fox News at least four times in the last year, most recently on the August 29 edition of Fox News' America's News HQ. During that time, he has appeared in taped reports on five editions of Fox News' premiere “news” program, Special Report.* He has also written occasional columns for FoxNews.com's Fox Forum. Between January 1, 2002, and May 13, 2008, McInerney made 144 Fox News appearances. McInerney's support for Lakin's cause does seem to be a bit at odds with his written contributions to Fox Forum. That is not to say he's not critical of Obama — he is a fierce one. But none of his work belies any fascination with the Birther fetish. Here, he seems to address Obama as the legitimate leader of the country. He does the same in his most recent offering — though it's pretty confusing piece, with grave misunderstandings about counterinsurgency strategy, that seems to argue that Obama should just fire everyone involved in the war effort and then, maybe, resign himself. Nevertheless, McInerney is a full-blown Birther fanatic, now. Here's his statement: For the foregoing reasons, it is my opinion that LTC Lakin's request for discovery relating to the President's birth record in Hawaii is absolutely essential to determining not merely his guilt or innocence but to reassuring all military personnel once and for all for this President whether his service as Commander in Chief is Constitutionally proper. He is the one single person in the Chain of Command that the Constitution demands proof of natural born citizenship. This determination is fundamental to our Republic, where civilian control over the military is the rule. According to the Constitution, the Commander is Chief must now, in the face of serious — and widely-held — concerns that he is ineligible, either voluntarily establish his eligibility by authorizing release of his birth records or this court must authorize their discovery. The invasion of his privacy is utterly trivial compared to the issues at stake here. Our military MUST have confidence their Commander in Chief lawfully holds his office and absent which confidence grievous consequences may ensue. added by: TimALoftis

MRC-TV: Brent Bozell on Hannity’s ‘Media Mash;’ Discusses Coverage of Oil Spill, Kagan Hearings, and Obama Agenda

Appearing on FNC’s “Hannity” on Thursday, Media Research Center President and NewsBusters publisher Brent Bozell discussed the media’s left-wing slant on the latest issues during the weekly “Media Mash” segment. The first topic was NBC’s Matt Lauer fretting that Americans would not learn the “proper message” from the oil spill and curb their “appetite for oil.” Mr. Bozell pointed out that the media had learned nothing from the ClimateGate scandal and noted their determination to bring an end to offshore oil drilling. Another topic of discussion was the media’s fawning coverage of Elena Kagan, particularly by ABC’s Claire Shipman, who spoke of the Supreme Court nominee’s “personal charm” Bozell observed that he had never seen such a one-sided profile of someone in his life. The segment wrapped up with a look at NBC’s Chris Matthews and a panel of liberal pundits all describing President Obama’s left-wing policies as a “positive” in the November elections. Host Sean Hannity remarked “How about negative?” Bozell joked that the liberal panelists might be working for the RNC because of their encouragement for Obama to continue down such an unpopular road.   For the full segment, watch the video above or listen to the audio here .

BP’s Next Disaster

Rolling Stone's Tim Dickinson reports that BP plans to start drilling in the Arctic this fall — and what the Obama administration is doing to stop it. On June 15th, as BP's catastrophic spill in the Gulf neared its third month, President Obama addressed the nation from the Oval Office. His administration, he assured the American people, would not let such a disaster happen again. He had put an indefinite hold on plans to open up new coastal areas, including Florida and Virginia, to offshore exploration. And he had frozen all new permits to drill in deep waters for six months, to give a blue-ribbon commission time to study the disaster. “We need better regulations, better safety standards and better enforcement,” the president insisted. But Obama's tough-guy act offers no guarantee that oil giants like BP won't be permitted to repeat the same mistakes that led to the nightmare in the Gulf. Indeed, top environmentalists warn, the suspension of drilling appears to be little more than a stalling tactic designed to let public anger over BP's spill subside before giving Big Oil the go-ahead to drill in an area that has long been off-limits: the Arctic Ocean. The administration has approved plans by both BP and Shell Oil to drill a total of 11 exploratory wells in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas above Alaska — waters far more remote and hostile than the Gulf. Shell's operations could proceed as soon as the president's suspension expires in January. And thanks to an odd twist in its rig design, BP's drilling in the Arctic is on track to get the green light as soon as this fall. “The administration seems to want to avoid just shutting down these leases, even though they have every legal right to,” says Charles Clusen, who leads the Alaska project for the Natural Resources Defense Council. “My fear is that people will start to forget about the Gulf spill, and the government will give Shell permits next year. We'll have had a pause, but not enough to assess the resources at risk or to develop technology that would be truly safe.” Ken Salazar, the Interior secretary whose staff allowed BP to drill in the Gulf based on pro-industry rules cooked up during the Bush years, has made no secret of his determination to push the “frontier” of oil drilling into the Arctic. The region's untapped waters are believed to hold as much as 27 billion barrels of oil — an amount that would rival some of the largest oil fields in the Middle East. “Everything I've heard internally, from sources within both the administration and industry, tells me that the administration is all over wanting these guys out in the Arctic Ocean,” says Rick Steiner, a top marine scientist in Alaska who helped guide the response to the Exxon Valdez spill. “They're trying to solve this political problem with this Gulf spill in time to get these guys out in the Arctic next summer.” The White House dismisses any accusation of stalling as “not accurate,” noting that Shell's permits are “on hold” until the president's commission finishes its work. But an administration spokesman admits that BP's plan — which uses an unproven approach to extracting undersea oil — is not covered by the six-month moratorium on offshore drilling. This fall, the company plans to begin drilling for oil near Prudhoe Bay via an oil rig it created by building an island — a glorified mound of gravel — three miles out in state waters. Because the island rig is connected to the mainland by a causeway, BP and Interior agree that the “onshore” facility is not subject to restrictions on “offshore” drilling. It's the same kind of legal fiction that states like Indiana use to permit gambling on “riverboat” casinos that are permanently docked on dry land. Here's what BP has in store for the Arctic: First, the company will drill two miles beneath its tiny island, which it has christened “Liberty.” Then, in an ingenious twist, it will drill sideways for another six to eight miles, until it reaches an offshore reservoir estimated to hold 105 million barrels of oil. This would be the longest “extended reach” well ever attempted, and the effort has required BP to push drilling technology beyond its proven limits. As the most powerful “land-based” oil rig ever built, Liberty requires special pipe to withstand the 105,000 foot-pounds of torque — the equivalent of 50 Mack truck engines — needed to turn the drill. “This is about as sexy as it gets,” a top BP official boasted to reporters in 2008. BP, a repeat felon subject to record fines for its willful safety violations, calls the project “one of its biggest challenges to date” — an engineering task made even more dangerous by plans to operate year-round in what the company itself admits is “some of the harshest weather on Earth.” MORE at the link: http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/17390/120130?RS_show_page=0 added by: Incredulous

Lil Wayne Could Serve More Time Because Of MP3 Player In His Cell

‘You lose some ‘good time,’ ‘ our source at Rikers Island says of contraband found in Wayne’s cell. By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Sway Calloway and Rahman Dukes Lil Wayne Photo: Derrick G A source at Rikers Island confirmed reports that Lil Wayne was busted Monday for having headphones, a charger and a watch that doubles as an MP3 player in his jail cell. The offense isn’t extremely serious, but it could mean more prison time for Wayne. “You just get an infraction, a violation,” the source told MTV News. “You lose some ‘good time.’ “It depends on the severity of the infraction,” the source added about what other type of trouble Weezy could get into. “Level one is the worst. Then you have [level] two or three. [This infraction] could be a level one. He has to go on trial, and based on evidence, they’ll make their determination.” Our source also confirmed that Wayne has a job as a suicide-prevention aid, which entails staying up at night to keep an eye on at-risk inmates. “He checks each cell or area to see if each guy is alive. There are three shifts,” our source said. “I think his shift is at night, like 11 [p.m.] to 7 [a.m.] or 12 to 8.” That job is now in jeopardy due to the infraction. In 2007, Lil Wayne was arrested for attempted gun possession following his first headlining performance in Manhattan at the Beacon Theatre. New York is among the toughest states in the country when it comes to gun-possession laws. In other states, Lil Wayne could have gotten off with a misdemeanor rap and probation. However, in New York, only law-enforcement officials and those affiliated with authorities are permitted to carry firearms. The rapper was sentenced to a year in prison in March. CafePress Is Officially Cool with Selling T-Shirts Urging People to Pray for Obama’s Death

Yesterday, we reported that CafePress had halted sales of T-shirts bearing the slogan, “Pray For Obama: Psalm 109:8,” which in Bible-talk means pray that “his days be few; let another take his office.” After some thought, they’re selling them again. Go here for the full panoply of CafePress bumper stickers, mugs, and shirts containing prayers for the president to die and for his daughters— per Psalm 109 —to “continually be vagabonds, and to beg.” The Psalm 109 items were indeed briefly taken off the market yesterday, a CafePress spokesman tells Gawker, after some controversy developed about the appropriateness of veiled death threats as bumper sticker material.
